The first Zelda was ok. People that never played it and still praise it underestimate how hard it was at the time without guides and online walktroughs. It would be even worse now, since most cartridges have dead batteries (so no save files), and opening them is a bitch without the proper screwdriver.
Moving very fast from area to area always made me sick. Smooth transitions came much later with the SNES.

Smooth transitions came much later with the SNES. oh yeah that awesome 8 fps block pixel game that looked atrocious on those old crt screens and hurt your eyes if you played it for more than half an hour at a time because unless you were practically on top of the screen you couldn't tell the difference between the background or the items you were supposed ot pick up.... you had ot watch the game show each week in order to find out the cheats and if your shitty kid sister wanted mylittel pony (all skinny and boney) or care bears (eurgh) then you would miss the tip for which way to run in the hidden maze to pick up the special item (clever way of saying we were too lazy to make a decent game s owe made a companion tv show to tell people where the cheats were) which meant you had to wait until the folloup show to grab the codes for all the previous ones so you could just auto loot stuff as you hit each zone and not have to struggle quite so much ... I hated that sodding game with a passion mostly because I never got a chance to watch the damn tv show so I never got the codes ..... they fixed it thought for later versions (the game that is) so it wasn't as hard for people to play. but at least duck hunt was awesome and I probably spent more time playing that than any other game ever |

You had TV shows for that? I was lucky if I even found a gaming magazine with some info, as I lived mostly outside cities the local newspaper stand often didn't have what I looked for. This was my life through the PS1 era until we finally had always on broadband and I could freely look for help or solutions when I needed it (which was about mid life of the PS2, I still managed to finish Syberia by myself at the time).

As mentioned before I find people whine/complain too much with dramatic flair online. Example: people whining and complaining like children about political correctness. So much drama over such a trivial issue that I am neutral towards. Yeah, the incessant whining about these (as far as I can tell meaningless) acronyms is especially rampant in the gamer community. Don't think I've ever actually run into anyone I'd describe as a a legit tumblrina SJW on here, but people whining about SJW and PC related conspiracy theories are a goddamn plague. |
