That ancient part of our brain did its job to ensure our survival back when our brains weren't developed enough to make fast conclusions based on logics. Our brains still aren't developed enough to make fast conclusions based on logic. What they have developed is the ability to analyze and evaluate the conclusions reached by our more knee-jerk cognitive systems (emotions, heuristics, biases) post-hoc, so that those fast conclusions aren't the only ones we end up with.
While it's true that we tend to think better when we think logically, it's a slow process that's costly in terms of mental resources. And so the intuitive system is still useful and important to have as the first responder and workhorse of our minds. What you're proposing would be like a company thinking it can lay off all its laborers because it hired a new supervisor.

It is not logical to have children for example. Many would argue "but it's to further your genes, to be part of the future" etc etc. But if you were being simply logical you would know that there is no point in furthering your own genes. Since your own genes are having their way with YOU, you might as well just cut your losses and enjoy as much of anything you can given you are only driven by logic before you expire. What does this mean? No matter how I read it, it does not argue your position at all. You would also either have zero sex drive or probably get rid of it. Sex drive has no part in logic. It is at cross purposes with logic. So make use eunuchs while you're at it. One could say, but we need sex, it helps us bond, it helps us reproduce etc etc, it helps with prostate health and reproduction helps with anti cancer prevention in women, but no sex is useless. Again, here you list several reasons counter to your point but don't bother actually arguing against them. If you're being facetious, I admit, the joke's over my head. Anyway I can see the ideal of Beetle's point but we're nowhere near as far along as he claims, even jokingly. I don't think humans need to completely purge emotions from the way they operate, but they should be able to detach them at any time, for any scope. Easier said than done of course. Like I said, it's an ideal, not a reality.

I think the combination of mint and chocolate tastes terrible. It's like chocolate flavored toothpaste. *snip* That means more for me then

Like I said, it's an ideal, not a reality. RE: Genes having their way with you. We have barely touched the surface of understanding of our genetics. And there IS an agenda- whether this is known or actually cohesive- well I'm not saying necessarily that it is omniscient or sentient but rather we humans do things to further our genes all of the time whether we realize it consciously or not. This may seem relatively benign to most people but this is the meta we're talking about and it would take a lot of analysis to figure out how it might have thwarted you in your own life. I'm not sitting around being paranoid about this- nor am I putting on tin foil hats. But I just know that I'm attracted to my husband and wanted to have children due to not only culture but what my genes want. RE: Emotions: Of course it's best to consider things with logic, mostly, whenever possible. But as someone already mentioned our brain doesn't process as quickly as needed in dire situations which is what the ancient portion of our brain is dedicated to react to. And I'm sorry, but I am not being facetious about our sex drives. I literally think that they are useless and dumb, but I freely admit that I am a sexual creature, enjoy it, and I do not condemn it. But if you look at it from a strictly less biased space, it wastes a lot of time and effort in our lives that could be directed to "something more useful". Anyway I'm not (isn't this obvious?) a very formal debater nor am I skilled in it. I just type what I think and edit when necessary

I took a graze to the left shin, and I have an abdomen with a few tiny scars from shrapnel that was redirected from another surface. Nothing major or close to your level, and I didn't get a purple heart for either (which is fine with me). My unit has the request record filled out by the Company Commander still, though I asked them not to submit it. Grazes suck shit too man, and to be fair? I didn't ask for the medal, my CO pushed it and I was unconscious most of the time the process was underway.

Anyway I'm not (isn't this obvious?) a very formal debater nor am I skilled in it. I just type what I think and edit when necessary Ok, but none of that is "at cross purposes" with logic. The instinct to pass on your genes is just that, instinct. It's physically hardwired into all lifeforms. The sex drive is again physical instinct that facilitates that. Instinct is is distinct (hah!) from emotions. So whereas the discussion was about logic vs emotion you've now introduced a third side, instinct. Personally it seems to me that instinct is the foundation for action and thus on a different level from the other two. It's a hierarchy of self-motivation (I'd say cognitive but I don't want to use psych terms incorrectly and get called out on it). All creatures have instinct, fewer have emotion and fewer still logic. The latter are higher order mental functions, with the latter seeming to be the most willful and under our control. So it makes sense to use it to try and control the others when necessary.

I think Michelle Obama should be president I do not like her, but I think she would have been better than Hilary. At least in the election, anyway. May I ask why you do not like Michelle? Genuinely curious because I saw a poll that showed that she is not well-liked among conservative Republicans -- not saying you are one, it just kind of blew my mind since I fail to see what's not to like about her.

Indeed, I foresee her going down the route of one of the more prolific First Ladies. I don't think politics are in her future ala Hillary, but I think she's definitely got a very strong career in activism awaiting her, and being a general stately, graceful, and diplomatic presence would make her a terrific representative for America on the global stage (especially if it ties into her activism.)

She has a whole lot of 'anti-america' trash in her background and generally relies far too much on identity politics. She's essentially a sectarianist figure. Oh, and almost all of her public statements are where she misrepresents and attacks that in which you believe. That too.

Obvious exceptions; Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Donald Drumpf, Ron Paul, etc. Unpopular opinion; There are days where the dark side of my nature really wins out over my rational, optimistic, and humanistic self. I would love to see a rebellion against 'tyrannical government' from the right-wing/tea party/libertarian base. I would practically dare them to do it. My pig is hungry, and it wants to be sated by the blood of 'patriots'. Alas, the better angel of my nature kicks in and returns that sentiment back to the depths of my subconscious id where it belongs.

I think if she ran this cycle, she would win. Easily. Unlike almost everyone else, she has a shred of charisma. Future cycles? Who knows. No one has really done the full scale dirt digging like they have on Hilary or Trump to her. I doubt she'd run though. Well, unless loads of people grab her leg and plead with her. She doesn't seem to be looking that direction atm.
