EA Tech Support made me laugh. Like, in a good way.
I was describing my problem in the chat, and the person trying to help me copy/pasted the same offer to "cheer me up" with a 15% discount on my Origin account at least 3 times.

"ART IS EASY!" or "GET A JOB. YOU CAN'T MAKE $$$ OFF OF ART." ??? Shit, that reminds me I have to respond to someone over a similar post! I'm not the artsy type at all, but I generally keep my opinions to myself on this one. I don't need to devalue someones passion. I never understood why so many others were so quick to disparage it.

Based upon empirical evidence observed over the years, at least 5% of all internet posters are monkeys. This figure is derived from the total amount of butt flashing and poo flinging seen. Not me mate, I'm an orangutan. The benefits of being a redhead!

1. I'm a science nerd who went the Liberal Arts route (though I'm somewhat farther along the science route than you are since my degrees are in the Social Sciences), and ended up studying many of the sciences and engineering in my own free time. I know the pain of derision from a few science majors (though most of the scorn came from the Business/Professional degree types). I'm thus much more inclined towards the scientific method and practical applications rather than interpretative humanities. So, as a fellow liberal arts major, I'll ask how your degree helped you out with the same stuff that scientists do? I'd honestly rate your average calculus exam as being more intellectually demanding than any English term paper to be honest. Not to rain on your parade, but two can play at that game 2. That may be the case, but as a pragmatist, I'd have to say that the field that helps us figure out how the universe and society is more important than figuring out how we feel about it. Thus, IMHO, Science > Art. 3. The world would be 100% better if people actually took the time to stand up and argue and debate over discourse, reason, logic, and science. After all, you get plenty of time for silence in the grave. 4. I don't understand the context here, and I don't care much about it either. 5. Very true, and I'm arguably the largest offender of that on these boards. Hell, I'm doing it right now with you! Deprecating humor aside (towards myself and my awareness of my considerable personality flaws up to and including my black hole-sized ego and pride), it's often a case of posturing, insecurity, comparison, or social construct. There are a variety of reasons for this, many depending as much on the culture you grew up in to your own personal nature. 6. Agreed, but I'd argue that the introverts trying to be extroverts are even worse. All that said, and as I mentioned it on this forum, I think life simultaneously is and is not a popularity contest. 7. You know what's better than both? Studying orbital mechanics, astronomy, physics, etc. Because reality completely blows both franchises out of the water. 8. Yep. Yep. Yep. Asswipes indeed-y. 9. I have no comment on the matter. I'm not a particular fan or follower of horror films. They don't really interest me much. 10. I have not read that series, but given Mass Effect's overt nature of including homage and nods to many science fiction tropes, cliches, and plots, I wouldn't say it's a rip-off so much as just using a lot of the same general ideas that are common in Sci-fi. 1. I have a highly nuanced view of the world, so, when it comes to the question of "intelligence," I could write paragraphs on all the possible ways that performance on any given academic task could be interpreted. I've just always found it odd that certain people could complain about English/history/et.al. being "easy" and "for dummies," and then fail spectacularly at it while simultaneously claiming I'm dumber than them because I excel at it. It boggles the mind. As for your other question, I'm able to clearly articulate my ideas, come at subjects from multiple points of view, and integrate scientific knowledge into a wider socio-cultural-political perspective, which I attribute to my Liberal Arts education far more than anything I learned in my science courses. 2. I'm super non-competitive. I don't really "get" the drive to compete, so, when science majors try to turn college majors into a competition, I just scratch my head and imagine apples and oranges. If anything, I think science/art are complimentary. Hell, it's not like I'm competing for jobs with physics majors, so, why the ire? 3. Debate all you want, but if a person's choices/lifestyle have absolutely no impact on your life or anyone else's, don't go red in the face trying to limit their rights to live as they will. 7. Yeah, but people don't go online and write reams of crappy, albeit highly entertaining, fanfiction involving orbital mechanics. 10. You say "homage," I say rip-off. Po-TAY-to, pa-TA-to, let's call the whole thing off. Sorry for the long delay in the reply. I was going to post earlier, but got side-tracked. 1. I understand that one could hold such a nuanced view. I even agree with it to an extent, having been a product of it myself. What I think however is that there is some level of logical connection that generally goes towards a great many subjects, and I'd go insofar as to say that if you applied yourself, you'd seriously excel at a lot of scientific endeavors over rhetorical ones. Understand, I wasn't attacking or questioning you in a hard manner; I get many of the same questions for Political Science and International Relations, for which I hold a Master's Degree. I will say that I tend to lean more towards the practical, however. In that aspect, I'm particularly skewed toward the sciences. As an aside, you fall under the Humanities spectrum of Liberal Arts, whereas I'm on the Social Sciences end of is. I'm not trying to say anything with this statement by the way. 2. I'm the opposite, I thrive and exist for challenges; call it primitive ego, call it the need for dominance and excellence over peers if you want. A lot of science types, myself included to an extent (even if I get mocked for being involved with a 'lesser' science), don't really get the need for interpretative being; we prefer being orderly, organized, and rational. This is to kind of explain how I feel about it; I personally don't understand the appeal of wanting to have such a tremendous focus on self-expression, when I'd rather work towards a goal that advances us as a society. This is just my opinion however. When it comes to practical means, I think that science has art beat, and since that's what I put value in, I think that's why I skew towards science; You don't go to a musician or painter or graphic designer to solve world hunger or clean renewable energy or building a space station to house research facilities. What I'm saying is that I personally do not put much value in the artsy institutions; but of course, who am I but a random internet text-voice who can tell you all about International Relations, Military Intelligence, and the nuances of political science from ideological and practical means? I don't know everything after all. I'll leave the art to the artists. I don't like devaluing another's passion after-all. 3. As I said, I don't do this. I do believe that people should be more willing to discuss their views and work towards logically resolving conflict and getting points of view across. I don't know where you got the idea that I'd limit rights based on this from. 7. I don't know, you should check out many of the artist-video gamers ( ) who don't have a clue about how physics work in space, lol. Orbital mechanics = the faster you go, the higher you go, and the slower you need to go to stay in orbit! Some people think you can just float there! But don't get orbital mechanics wrong, elsewise, you turn into Skylab. 8. Was it an intentional rip-off? Just saying, when does affectionate homage end, and when does blatant rip-off begin? I'll drop it though.

Artists be starving or leeches for a reason. It doesn't pay bills unless you do it professionally. ._. I paint occasionally or doodle, you don't even see me comment on it unlike my writing. It's just a hobby. Absolutely! But do paint. It's good for heart and mind.

I'm tired of zombies. I was never into that whole vampire period either...I managed to make it out of that without ever seeing one single scene from Twilight. It's time for sci-fi to make it's major comeback...it's long overdue. confession: I did start to watch True Blood for the 1st time ever 2 weeks ago and I gotta admit..it hooked me..I now watch 2 episodes every night.

I really really hate Stephen King. Every books I read was bad (maybe except Cujo when I was 10) and every movie based on his books is boring.

Stephen King's problem is he suck's really, really bad when it comes to endings. Some of his work is really interesting. I love The Stand, Storm of the Century was intriguing, he did a small series called Kingdom Hospital that got my interest. When I was a little kid, Pet Sematary freaked me out...and because of It, my youngest sister became permanently afraid of clowns. If only he could come up with better endings. Honorable mentions go to The Tommy Knockers, Rose Red and The Langoliers.

There was also The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption.

Hmm, let's see how many people this one pisses off.
Remember my list of movies that are meh at best? I forgot one.
Princess Bride. I have no idea what the point of that movie was, but I feel like that's time I won't get back. I don't think a live action fairy tale works as well as some might think.

But it's just supposed to be fun. Hmm, would you say then that my opinion is... unpopular? Everytime I thought I was getting into it, the ridiculousness of it would drag me right back out again. Hence my assertion. Live action fairy tale seems to be a paradox. Live action carries a fundamental expectation of realism, even in the most fantastical settings. You can have orcs and goblins and aliens and robots and talking bears but people are still people, even when they're not human. No character in that movie felt like a person to me. As far as I remember anyway.

I guess I disagree. I seem to like even sillier live action than that Xena, for one. Hey I could totally get behind Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. But it's not the same thing. Like I said, even though we had gods and demigods and really bad CGI mythical beasts, we were still dealing with people. I don't expect to convince anyone. I'm just happy people aren't foaming at the mouth over this. Though it has only been 30 min...

I have to agree with you...especially when you're just an observer. The game play looks ok, but there's no story to it and it's a bore. I have been sitting through at least 5 plays per game of Dark Souls 1, 2 & 3 while my roommate has been playing it since June. OMG, what a snore.

It's not something you watch so as you just perform. Like a getting a dance routine right. It's in a long tradition of Japanese games (not just RPGs), where it rewards good or close to flawless performance, and forces you to replay until you get the patterns of the level design right.
