I loved DAI and there were parts that it did better than Origins. I'm at the point where I'm convinced they're going to please people. Bioware is pretty much the new Call of Duty now.

Is Greedfall a PC exclusive? Or can we on consoles. Anyway, I'm not worried about DA4. Though there's going to be a lot of doomsayers this time. the official site says consoles and pc Yes, it's like... almost too good to be true.

Yes, it's like... almost too good to be true. Did you play Technomancer or Bound by Flame? No, the Greedfall Trailer that was posted in "what games are you looking towards?" was the first time ever I hear about this studio and their products. One thing I picked up from the 9 minutes interview though, was that the game was too hard for a casual like me to play, so I am not trying it, but will watch a video to access the graphics quality. EDIT: Did that, and it is perfectly fine in my books.

They have a story mode. You should try their other 2 games. Technomancer combat is more like the Witcher combat but not as technical and easier. Bound by Flame only the end boss was a pain and long. I put the Technomancer on the wishlist. Graphics is fine. I will pick it up after I get through (or abandon) Prey. Or if it goes on one of the freak sales, lol. I have never played Witcher, so I have no idea what the combat is like. I think I might have just found my new developer in Spiders.

Like any AAA budget game, I'm sure there'll be no shortage of pressure, regardless of how well MEA did or didn't do. But it looks like a lot/most of the senior people are still on the franchise. They've also had a long pre-prod period which (hopefully) has allowed them to really zero-in on exactly what they want to do with DA4, and given them a chance to prototype the hell outta the new gameplay elements they want to bring in. And from what Mike's been saying, it sounds like they're aware of the areas they need to improve on. There were certainly lessons learned from MEA, and no doubt Anthem will be educational as well. So I'm not really worried on that front. Or at least no more worried than I'd normally be for any new DA game. Which is... still quite a bit actually. But TBH, my real worry would be if they're not given the time, staff & resources to produce the ambitious best-in-series DA game we all hope the next one will be. While they are slowly building up their team, it sounds like they're still only fraction of the size of the DAI team at this point. With Anthem having the majority of the DA team working on it, and being delayed, and the Montreal studio gone.... my guess is it's going to be a long time yet before they'll be able to get a full team together. Maybe not until Anthem wraps up, unless they are outsourcing a lot of work. But if EA says BioWare needs to have a DA game out in 2019, make do with the staff you have, that... could be a problem. Hopefully that won't happen.

I'm more worried about people's perception of ME:A influencing what they think DA4 will be like.
DA:I did a good job at reviving some faith back into BioWare after DA2 and ME3

DAI was a step up from DA2, but still a step down from Origins. BioWare is not the company they once were. DA4 will be their last chance to get it right for a lot of people. I hated DAI when it came out. It has since grown on me a little because I took it for what it was instead of what the devs originally promised... I thought DA2 was the best one. Inquisition was still pretty damn good though. Bioware have as much credit with me as they've ever had, really.

I really hope they can finally hammer down on a style and tone with DA4. This series has changed drastically with each installment, like they have no idea what to do with it.

They better not not mess up my favorite franchise. Inquisition was actually a great game before it started getting trashed by some after Witcher 3 came out. They need to launch the game with as less bugs as possible. I hope they have learned from inquisition with a focus on better quests and meaningful exploration. More quality and less quantity. DA4 has every capability of being the best Dragon Age ever and Bioware should aim to make it better than the Witcher 3 to show they're the boss of making RPGs. They have to start setting the bar and stop playing catch up with other companies if they want to be taken seriously.

Right now DA4 is about the only thing I have to look forward to. I don't care about Anthem and ME was put on ice thanks to the toxic internet hate mob that took a giant ice spear and chucked it at Mass Effect.
So bring it on Solus.

I honestly like DAI more than Andromeda. Andromeda was okay. I just wasn't as engaged with the story and characters as I am in the DA series. If DA4 is at least as good as DAI then I will not be disappointed. I have in fact started to accrue my tears for the DA4 writers. My only concern is if I am accruing enough tears to keep them sustained.

I can't tell if they really mean the 17th century, which would be the 1600s, or the 1700s. The 1600s would be better for pirates and colonialism, the 1700s would be better for politics and cannon & cavalry warfare. Either way, looks good. I'll be following the progress of this new game. Thanks for the tip!

Hopefully that won't happen. DA4 has everything going for it. It's really Bioware's game to lose and DA hasn't had the history of doing monumentally dumb things to drag it down. Unpopular and disruptive things yes, but not dumb. It's never a good thing for a franchise to go splat, but, that said, whatever happened to MEA is nothing compared to what will happen to Bioware if Anthem goes splat. If people want to worry about the consequence of failure, worry about Anthem. Or better yet, root for Anthem's success, even if you have no intention of playing it. Because Anthem doing well -- but not too well, don't want an Overwatch effect that throws EA's greed into overdrive -- will raise all boats and give DA some breathing room. You don't want your whole studio's life resting on just one game that only comes out every 4 years. Having a cash cow (Anthem) to fund your existence should allow a bit more risk taking and sheltering of less profitable properties.

I'd rather it would have happened to Inquisition that imo deserved the hate-wave way more than Andromeda. But, of course, everyone loved DAI. I can't win. I like the game, everyone hates it. I don't like the game, everyone adores it. (Sigh) I bet DA franchise will go on for years and years and years.... I am trying to force myself to be like everyone else and like the same thing. Gonna go brainwash myself some more now with Inquisition. Squeee! I *wuv* it! It's a wonderful game! The best ever! Yeah, totally agree.
People always joked that MEA was DAI in space, and I guess it was true in a sense. But the difference is that MEA is like a hundred times better. DAI had more natural looking characters and better facial animation, but apart from that, MEA is superior in every sense. The whole comparison just makes you feel like the reviews and the fan reactions are completely arbitrary. Inquisition was lukewarm and nice (moments with Hawke excluded, they were great), whereas MEA was everything you could realistically hope for in a reboot.
Sure, MEA is three years newer, but even so it mops the floor with DAI. The latter just sucked on so many aspects, the senseless combat and the empty areas being the foremost problems. And the companion content was so limited, whereas in MEA we get loads of companion quests and unique scenes.
About DA4, I've got two main concerns. One is combat, with which they've struggled in every game of the DA series. Inquisition set the bar so low that I am expecting a significant improvement.
Another concern is the structure and length of the main story. The Witcher 3 showed us what can be achieved by creating a long and sinuating main plot with multiple twists and turns. I hope BW learns the lesson and puts more focus on the main story rather than the sidequests.
Apart from the above considerations, I guess they'll just go through the motions and give us another comfortable DA4 experience I know I am probably going to enjoy it no matter what happens, but for the sake of BW I really hope that it is positively received (and incorporates as little multiplayer bullshit as possible).
Also, Greedfall looks incredibly good! Thanks guys for making me aware of that.
PS: Sacrilegious opinion: I'm so much in a ME mood right now that if I could decide, I'd take MEA2 as the next Bioware title and push the release of DA4 into mid-2020s :poop:

I tried to get into MEA, just couldn't. The Dragon Age world is my favourite and that's the playground I want to play in. I've lost count how many PTs I have on all the Dragon Age games. Didn't get to finish Andromeda once. It'll be going to the second hand shop soon. Maybe it's because I played DA2 first that it became my favourite and I had no expectations of it being a direct sequel to DAO or anything like that. I played DAO later, but DA2 is still my fave with DAI a close second.

Indeed.Anthem's kick-off generated all the right kinds of buzz, so at least it's off on the right foot. So, for the time being at least, I'm not really worried about it. Even what little we've seen showed off a lot of potential. But you raise a good point about the potential pitfalls of it being too successful. Definitely excited about the possibilities for DA4. Again, for me, it's really just a question of... will they be given the time & resources they need? Hopefully DAI's success will give them the clout they need. I also noticed they're still hiring for a number of senior & lead positions, and hopefully they'll be able nab some top-tier talent (and soon).
