Talent I think they've got. And, at least in the writer's pit and designer's (blanket fort? boudoir? gazebo?), they apparently have high espirit de corps. Judging from Twitter and con appearances, anyway.

I agree with hrungr that if there is a risk to DA4, it's most likely going to be about time and money. That's a risk for any AAA game, but the MEA debacle might translate into more pressure to ship sooner and/or for less cost.

Pre production is invaluable. The only books I've been able to complete are ones I've planned out either before or very early in the writing. And resources are key. Everything you've said is true and then some. 

But Inquisition had it's problems too. Dorian's quest was very cliche. Vivienne didn't get some depth until the very end. Krem was written very heavy handedly. I don't think Weekes notices these things. Interviews he gave after the fact tells me he thinks identity politics is a story. And it's not. Plus, the family aspect of 2 was fantastic, and I don't think they captialize on it. 

We'll have to see. I have faith that he can grow, but as someone who played and was disappointed in Andromeda, I get to be a skeptic. 

The internet hate mob took that spear because MEA was an underwhelming game. Blamming the fans only shows that the mistakes of MEA were not learned.

I hoped EA and Bioware will use MEA as a case study for DA4.

But pointing the finger soley at the internet is essentially ignoring the fact that MEA had many problems going on with it.

First people didnt want to believe MEA isnt getting sp DLC. Now that it is confirmed, instead of coming to terms that the game was not as popular as EA wanted due to many problems, these same people now simply blame the internet.

You have no real reason to bring this up. The roots of the impending failure of DA4 are set by the Inquisition. It is a deeply flawed, broken and unfinished game that barely holds itself together, that only managed to stay afloat by the vagaries of fate and internet that at the time of release by some reason was willing to overlook the messy state the franchise is in. The good will is all used up now, so DA franchise, and perhaps even the Inquisition retroactively, will get the critique they deserve (and that they do not, but that comes with the territory). And if not, well, DA was born lucky, and never underestimate the staying power of the Elves over the gamers' minds. Inquisition earned the praise it received no more than Andromeda warranted the hate hysteria.

I know I'll love DA4 no matter what, because I hold an obsessive love for the franchise, but I really do hope it does well. I don't like the thought of what a poorly received DA4 would do to BioWare. Anthem already has me nervous. If it doesn't do well, poor BioWare, if it does and DA4 doesn't... will EA completely give BioWare over to the dark online side?

I'm rather hopeful about an upcoming RPG called Vampyr, which is set to come out on both consoles and PC in November. It's not a party-based RPG and you can't customize the protagonist, but you do converse with NPCs using a dialogue wheel and build your character's combat skills. The same developers did Life is Strange, which I hear is quite good.

unfortunately this is still the case. There aren't many games I can play.
