I decided to replay both games before Avowed release. After getting some ruleset refresh, I decided on a Death Godlike Cipher for POE1. And then I will probably dual-class with a Bleak Walker Paladin (I'm already picking cruel and aggressive dialogue choices in POE1). Why not Paladin in POE1, because I wanted to play a caster. After almost 10 years, the game is still looking quite good. But I'll have to get back into RTwP, I'm not really into that anymore (beside few games releasing with it). I'm more into TB these days (which I can use in Deadfire at least). I'm surprised by how I miss this style of game. Wrath of the Righteous was the last one I played way back when it released in 2021 and the setting is such melting pot that it doesn't grab me that much. I much prefer Eora. And I don't think BG3 really fits into the same category since it's a 3D game.

The first city was great, but the second one was tacked on as a stretch goal and never seemed to have the Obsidian love it needed. I wasn't hugely sold on their rule system either, especially not in RTwP. Too many aura's that were just big enough to be awkward and not big enough to affect what you wanted if I remember correctly. Deadfire should have been right up my street, but I could never get into. Not sure why, probably the rule system again. Not sure I'll go for Avowed either. That Elder Scrolls-like gameplay isn't a favourite. Basically I want my RPG games to be like BG3 or WotR nowadays, with a side order of MEA like gunplay for when I want a change.

I haven't seen any TB mod for POE1 on the Nexus unfortunatly. But it's not big problem, I can manage the RTwP. The second city, Twin Elm, is basically the end of the game. I feel the ruleset is much better in Deadfire. They made the classes more unique and less "archaics" (wizards/priest/druids haven't per encounters instead of per rest is a big improvements). The down side of Deadfire TB is that it can take a long time (even with the speed up animations). But it's a lot more relaxing than RTwP. And I never found the aura too small. Maybe you are thinking of some AOE spells with tiny aura that are barely larger than 3 dudes standing side by side? Yeah, but it works fine when you have a tank that aggros enemies. That's how I play my Cipher so far: 1. wait for enemies to glue near to the tank and build focus, 2, cast eyestrike on the middle enemies and all enemies have to roll against blindness and daze. 3. Profit!

In RTwP timing those AOE was impossible for me and I just found it frustrating. Yeah, it's the spells. Auras are centered on the character (only Chanter and Paladin have those and some passives/items) and have decent size. The smaller AOEs (usually Foe only) can only really be cast once the encounter started (or from stealth, but I never really tried that) and mobs stopped moving (even if they don't always stop moving, stupid wolves). You want fights to take as little space as possible to maximize spells usages. I usually find sending the tank forward "alone" works better there, but sometimes mobs decide my backline is juicier (which is a feature I find slighty annoying).
