Where Do You Think Humanity Will be in 100,000 Years? 1,000,000? I find this question interesting and ask myself this occasionally when world-building for stories/RPGs. Originally I pondered the question when reading works like Steven Erikson's Malazan series. The history spans a massive amount of time, 300,000 years is mentioned at one point. Yet they never managed gunpowder or steam engines. (I haven't finished this series btw) I get a bit irritated when you see things like 10,000 years histories with absolutely no concrete reasoning for why the technology has been stunted. Some authors have used prodigious magic as a work-around to the tech problem. I get it magic could very easily replace technology in some ways. Certainly stunt it. But it's a cop out now if it's not well done. Other authors (better authors) like Brandon Sanderson outright plan for it and utilize it in their series. Then you have J. Michael Straczynski who creates an episode of Babylon 5 set so far in the future we're incorporeal and watching Sol die. You have Christopher Nolan posing the question in Interstellar from our viewpoint. (Actually I got that it was future-humans pretty early on.) Will we reach a breakthrough that makes humanity laugh at our previous complete dependence/belief that Math is a universal language? Will we all be dead? (Why?) Will anything be recognizable from now to our earlier selves? Whatcha think? Shoot your shit.

6.1536e+13 kilometers further from where we are now. Multiply that by 10 for a million years.

I believe in 100.000 years humanity will no longer consist of single individuals but one giant intelligence. Basically mankind will leave behind all the burdens of mortality and ultimately slowly turn into, or rather, assimilated by a single AI completely. It will be a slow process since people do not want to give up their individuality but 100.000 years is a very long time. Especially when change happens in generations.
I think that is the peak of evolution and any intelligent species with capabilities equal to ours will inevitably end up like that. (If nothing terrible happens along the way)

Probally extinct. I don't think humanity will advance fast enough to properly colonize other planets with space travel, and sooner or later some catastrophic event like a war or a plague will send humanity over the edge.

Our species is relatively young and still has much more potential. No other species has our intellectual prowess.
We have overcome a recent (in Earth's history) massive extinction from a supervolcano; we have survived massive conflicts among ourselves.
We are a resilient species. We will survive and thrive in some way.

Well, we're too many to be living in this planet, so, if in the near-mid future we don't expand our reach to other planets, things will certanly look grim. Why can't people have only 2 childs? goddamn culture... TL:DR This x100

Hm..
You got a few options.
1.) Extinct. Either through war or castrophe.
2.) Interplanetary.
3.) Technologically regressed.

A currently lesser species... maybe the turtles... will rise up and destroy mankind, and will then populate the planet; building great turtle cities and monuments to their tortoise gods!
