I read somewhere that the reason why the Enterprise looks different (DESPITE being in the prime universe) is because of rights. What a bunch of BS. It may not be big enough to criticize to some people, but if this show is supposed to be part of the original canon, 1) why do the Klingons look like shit, and 2) what is so hard about making a deal to use the likeness of the original TOS Enterprise?
Besides, there is a problem in a technological and design standpoint similar to Star Trek: Enterprise. Some of the things in Discovery seem too advanced to be in a time that takes place before TOS. You go from what things look like in Discovery, to TOS. There's no natural flow.

Star Trek The Next Generation. With Captain Jean Luc Picard. 5. Star Trek The Original Series. With Captain James T. Kirk. 6. Star Trek Discovery ??? Patrica out.

You go from what things look like in Discovery, to TOS. There's no natural flow. Yeah, to summarise the videos posted above, it's all the fault of the Viacom split.
The rights to the previous televisions shows went to CBS and the film rights stayed with Paramount, which is why the Kelvin timeline was created and had to look visually distinct from TOS. For some reason they decided to make Discovery under the movie license (hence why Bad Robot is involved), rather than the television one, so it too has to look visually different from TOS for legal reasons.
There has been discussion of a re-merger (that might fix these rights issues), but Les Moonves getting canned has put a wrench in that for the moment. On the other hand, him getting canned is overall good for Trek, because the man had zero interest in the franchise (or any other sci-fi) beyond making a quick buck.

Rewatching Enterprise, it just dawned on me that the strange psychic link that T'Pol and Trip are shown to have developed in S4 (such as in "Affliction") seems very similar to the one that Michael and Sarek share in Discovery. Maybe it wasn't without some precedent after all?

Love Star Trek. I watched the original show as a kid and Spock was my first crush. My favorite show is Deep Space Nine, the only show, where I do like all characters and because Garak. Discovery is pretty good too imo. They did a good job with it.

Just found out about this section of the BSN boards My Star Trek favorites are ENT, DS9 + the "2009" and "Beyond" Kelvin movies. Have seen everything expect TAS and while I'm fond of characters and arcs (Spock, Data, the Doctor) I don't like their respective series (TOS, TNG, VOY). Still on the fence regarding DSC, but I like Tilly and the Short Treks so far. Love that the TV side is getting expanded with other projects and hope for at least 1 more Kelvin movie with the current cast.

Aside from using Little (Soylent) Green Men as fuel, the crew of the Equinox still seem more sensible than their counterparts on Voyager.

Paramount have also officially cancelled development of the fourth film in the reboot series. So, that's it for the Kelvin timeline.

They're apparently going forward with a Section 31 spinoff with Michelle Yeoh. Congratulations CBS, that's two bad characters you've decided to lumber your shows with. What exactly was it about the genocidal, tyrannical, ex-Empress from the Mirror Universe that made the writers think "She'd be perfect to lead a Star Trek show!" I know Section 31 have always been presented as "bad guys" and a necessary evil within the Federation, but even they should have some standards and intelligence to know that they cannot trust a woman who was, for all intents and purposes, Space Hitler in her universe. Whoever would have thought the current writing from Trek would make Berman and Braga look like a pair of Nobel Laureate's?

Review of Season 2, Episode 1: A nice step in the right direction.
Everyone was written to be far more likable (especially Burnham), they seem to be making an effort to course-correct a lot of the problems that plagued S1 and I was actually interested in the mystery plot (despite being underwhelmed by the trailers).
I adored the engineer woman from the crashed ship they found, I hope she doesn't disappear now, because she'd make for a great recurring character for this show. She kind of reminds me of a weird mix of Bones and Scotty, brilliant, but blunt.
My only tweaks would be to remove the Orville-esque scene in the lift with the sneezing alien, as well as have the jerkass Science Officer from Enterprise be killed doing something that Burnham actually agreed was safe (and Pike thought was too risky).
The latter change is because Burnham needs more moments where she's proven wrong, so having the jerkass science officer die while doing something she advised would be a great humbling moment for her. And this would ratchet up the tension later in the scene, because Pike would now be unsure whether or not she was right about how to save him.
Another minor tweak would be remove some of the unnecessary ananchronistic tech that Trek shouldn't have yet. Why have holographic candles when the tech shouldn't really exist yet, and we know that centuries later real ones are still used? Also Stamets' holographic HUD was cool and it allowed for a sweet scene where he reminisces over Hugh, but it seems way more advanced than the HUD that Ransom had on the Equinox. Couldn't he have just been watching the recording via a PADD?
Given that they're apparently ditching the Spore Drive (thank goodness), especially in light of the lawsuit, I still don't really understand why they didn't just destroy the Spore network or drive in S1, which would have easily justified why it was never used again by anyone? They had the perfect opportunity after the Mirror Universe arc when the spores were largely depleted, but they ended up growing a new batch and wasting that opportunity to 86 the drive for good? Now they're removing it for seemingly no reason, it doesn't make a whole ton of sense?
Still, it was nice to see Discovery using conventional warp for once.
Finally, Captain Pike is always awesome, regardless of whatever iteration of the character we're watching. And thank goodness he did a roll-call of everyone in the bridge, something that was needed after an entire season of not really knowing anyone's names on the bridge beyond Saru and Burnham.

Also regarding the strained relationship between Burnham and Spock; Maybe the reason why Spock has never mentioned having an adopted human sister in 50 years of canon is because he developed feelings for her as he grew older?
The shame of being attracted to his foster "sibling", in addition to the complicated emotions he struggles with from his human side, would definitely be reason for Spock to want to cut off all contact and avoid mentioning her.
It's a terrible idea, and yet the more I think about it, the more I have a feeling they'll do something like this?
(Would also shed more insight onto his relationship with Uhura in the Kelvin timeline, as she shares a lot of similarities to Burnham in terms of appearance, personality and possessing an equally intelligent, analytical mind.)
Ah damn it, they're definitely going to do this, aren't they?

Ah, it's good to see Patrick Steward making Star Trek references again. Though I have to admit, I thought the funniest part were Chuck and Speaker of the House Nancy. And only god knows why they used a TOS era tricorder when they actually should have had a TNG combadge.

Roaming around YT and came across this. I miss all the old Star Trek series. I got the remastered TOS and TNG. I'm hoping Voyager would be remastered too.
