Heck, I'm wondering whether Anthem actually trolls everyone and instead of being whatever Destiny clone people think it's... actually a sci-fi remake of Neverwinter Nights, or specifically: its multiplayer and possibility for people to DM their own little stories within the game or use assets/modules to build their own little universes or levels, a bit like Doom SnapMap. That would be pretty neat. Pretty sure a snowflake has a better chance in hell than that happening, EA likes safe easily monetized games and there is no way they would risk doing something so interesting and complex. They like tried and true formulas that encourage spending beyond the initial $60 asking price.

They already did state that they care about the story, so I don't see the reason why the whole game should just revolve around grinding gear or mats for gear. I'm curious though whether we're going to see some more procedurally generated stories, kinda like radiant quests in Skyrim, but perhaps more advanced. I don't think mod-builder is going to happen. NWN2 Toolset variation was already way too hard to work in & required large teams to collaborate to create anything even remotely matching the game's quality, while playership for the mods steadily declined. After DAO, pretty much every subsequent bio game was more difficult to mod than its predecessor. So, yeah, I will not be surprised by any way they would handle SP element, but I will be hugely surprised if we receive the officially supported modmaking tools. Definitely no mods considering the heavy focus on multiplayer and the shared world experience. Simple map editing tools and adventure creators that allow the player to set up simple triggers, encounters and whatnot are technically possible and there have been online games that have done this (GTA: Online and I believe City of Heroes had something like this?) but are extremely unlikely in a game like this.

Hmm.... No mods is "standard" for FB3. I'm still waiting for "we had a difficult time with the engine "cause it's not designed for RPG style gaming"... ". Or, what's the other one? Aah, yes... "we had to create our own tools". bet you there is no PAUSE key.
I wonder how tactically important the voice interface and the ability to speak to one another in each mission will be, if anything.

I agree. Frostbite/multiplayer mechanics open to modding? There's zero chance EA are going to sanction that officially.

I agree. Frostbite/multiplayer mechanics open to modding? There's zero chance EA are going to sanction that officially. Damn. I hadn't thought about the MP part of it. Frostbite can be modded, as evidenced by the 100+ DAI mods on the Nexus, but you're right, MP adds another big constraint. Even purely cosmetic mods would only be visible to the local player. That might be okay and even useful, but there is a possibility that the MP code might detect changes to the base game and refuse connections for co-op players, as an anti-cheat mechanism. Since it's co-op and not competitive MP, it might not have such anti-cheat code (I mean, who are you getting one over on by cheating, your small handful of buddies?), but unlike DAI SP, it's a possibility.

I don’t really buy that the kid didn’t know he was spending real money..
Not directly loot box related, and really more a case of why parents need to keep an eye on their credit cards, but it involves EA’s FIFA cash cow so I threw it up there.

A screwed or deliberate progression system in SWBF2? Will Anthem fall prey to something similar?
From REDDIT Thread poster:
"Crates are rigged towards duplicates. They're the norm rather than the exception. I've been saving all my credits and barely have any Star Cards. Even the second slot is still locked on most of my heroes and starfighters. I have some common cards, few uncommon cards, and 4 rare cards. Despite not having 70-80% of the cards, I still keep getting duplicates of the few cards that I have. Almost every crate has at least one duplicate, but usually two, sometimes three.
I feel like I'm wasting my credits when I buy crates because of this. Yes, I know, crafting parts are what matter. But it pisses me off that not only is the credit earning rate slow, not only is progression locked away behind crates, but whatever crates we buy after hours of grinding gives duplicates!
As someone who gets only a few hours of play each week, the slow progression has been frustrating."
Interesting that he feels the random content in the crates is rigged. It does appear odd with so few cards .... as if the game code checks what cards the player has in hand.
I do hope Bio implements a "smarter" system.

Yeah, but at the same time parents do need to start taking responsibility, I don't think I should have consequences for what I do because they are too lazy to watch their kids or at least make sure their credit card information is secure. Then again in the US there is at least one person shot each week by a child under the age of four, so I guess people really are stupid when it comes to what they think children will do.

Interesting but also not unexpected that EA would feel the effects of market analysts.
On another front, Apple has issued new rules regarding loot boxes in the mobile space.
"Apps offering “loot boxes” or other mechanisms that provide randomized virtual items for purchase must disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase."
Is this a maneuver to avoid legislation? Will it spill over to the console PC market? Perhaps Apple is conforming to Chinese rules, since they want to sell their Iphones over there.

I was just going to post that here myself. It's good news. I don't play any mobile games, but it's good to see, for whatever the reason, that Apple is requiring the odds be listed. I', sure that is going over like a lead balloon with some mobile devs.

I don't know about the modability of the Frostbite engine but I would assume that even cosmetic mods would be a no go for most multiplayer games, even cosmetic mods can give an unfair advantage in multiplayer such as changing enemy skins to something bright that stands out against the environment, I have even seen skins that change mostly translucent stealth camo into bright showy skins that allow the user to easily pinpoint them from a distance. Technically we don't know if the game will or wont feature some sort of competitive mode (unless you do and I am simply out of the loop) but even if it is co-op only I am pretty sure EA still don't want players cheating the system making progression easier and bypassing the need or temptation to buy lootboxes, XP boosts or whatever moneymaking scheme they choose to saddle this game with.

Hmm...
Thing is, I would use PayPal. That transaction is cumbersome. I cannot see going from buying a LB in Multiplayer to a PayPal screen where you present your credentials then going back to the Multiplayer screen to finish your acquisition. The easiest way to to buy a pool of points ahead of time then spend those points on buying the LBs.
Displaying the odds when you decide to buy a LB is too late as you already spent your money buying, say, 300 points. However, it would be an easy mechanic for the player as the account already has the necessary credits for the MTx. ... at this point you just click to buy until you see the message "insufficient points".
Well, it's an idea. 🌸

One step at a time... Sigh. Wrong move, Apple. They should have forbidden any randomness for in-game purchases. You get what you pay for, period. Posting the odds won't have the expected impact, as explained in this Extra Credits vid (TL;DW - human beings are horrible at translating odds into realistic expectations, and games often lie about and manipulate probability calculations for a better experience -- they give the example of a 50% probability to hit an enemy, and if the player doesn't hit every other time exactly, they think it's a bug): I wonder how people will take it when they are presented with the ACTUAL (abysmal) odds of getting something using real world money The long lines at the Lotto ticket dispensers argue that they won't take it at all seriously.

I wonder how people will take it when they are presented with the ACTUAL (abysmal) odds of getting something using real world money If I recall on ME3 multiplayer, the key statistic was: - 5% Ultra-rare in Spectre packs
- 8% Ultra-rare in Premium Spectre packs. (or something like that)
Once the community had figured that out, people were much more able to make buying and grinding decisions. From my perspective, those drop-rates were insufficient to spend real-world money on those items.

Speaking only for myself, I only spent a little money on BioWare Points (I hated that system more then lootboxes) about $5 each time they released a new MP pack. It wasn't for the items exactly, it was just to pay for the content I was playing. While also using my leftovers from buying single player DLC.

-(_ANTHEM_)-
EA is cracking down on their official forum(s) by enforcing policies / removing unflattering posts. Their silence is deafening. Seems like EA is attempting to control the narrative. Hmm... this reminds me of a Bio forum that disappeared because the studio wanted to be "closer" to the community. So, they moved away from the hot seat to an even bigger one ( hello EA). Too bad. Reddit is a perfect vehicle for enterprising gamers to vent about EA's nazi approach to control players' frustrations. It's not going to work. Read the article below for more info: www.gamewatcher.com/news/2017-21-12-ea-is-cracking-down-on-battlefront-ii-forums-devs-forbidden-from-talking🌸 In the meantime have a: Merry★* 。 • ˚ ˚ ˛ ˚ ˛ • •。★Christmas★ 。* 。 ° 。 ° ˛˚˛ * _Π_____*。*˚ ˚ ˛ •˛•˚ */______/~\。˚ ˚ ˛ ˚ ˛ •˛• ˚ | 田田 |門| ˚And a happy new year!

You know what happens next, right? EA shuts down its forums, since social media presents a better platform for devs to connect to fans.

Not that many people cared about BSN, and the whole PR debacle for EA didn't start on any of their official forums, but reddit.

EA is cracking down on their official forum(s) I have some sympathy for devs in this age of internet clickbait. Even the mildest tweet can become an internet storm. Devs lurk on forums (including this one) and should feel no obligation to have to answer questions. If marketing departments put additional pressure on employees not to speak, it would be a shame if that is done disproportionately. But given the hay that was made on Reddit after the "The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment" post, I can understand it. Devs who want stuff to 'be known' still have safe and secure channels they can use.
