I discovered MET by sheer happenstance in 2013. I had never played video games - ever - and never had any interest in them until I was 29 years old. Then one day in July 2013 I thought I'd search Youtube for the Halo series, just to see what all the hub-bub was about. The Halo walkthrough confirmed my reasons for why I had not been interested in video games - all of the mindless shooting, and the story aspect didn't interest me. I loved Cortana's relationship with Master Chief, but not enough to go buy a console to play it. I wanted to be in a story. But in that same Youtube search I also saw a ME-1 video game walkthrough listed. I was immediately hooked by the conversations among Joker, Nihlus, Shepard, Dr. Chakwas, Capt. Anderson, Ashley, and the Citadel's milieu. My conversion was complete. Then I found the old BSN site and masseffect.wikia; I had what I needed to learn about how to play the game. Within 2 weeks of making my first ME discovery I ordered the MET on disk for PC, and bought a GTX 770 graphics card. I was so excited to get started with ME-1.
Unfortunately, when I tried installing MET from the disks to my PC, the install failed half-way through. Uuuuggghhhh! It took me 2 more weeks to find out that I needed to have Origin installed on my PC before installing MET. Good grief. Then I needed to call the BW help line to get a new Key and download the game over the internet. The disks were useless. The BW rep treated me well, and it worked just fine after doing these steps. NOTHING in the MET retail package said anything about installing Origin first. That's when my 'displeasure' with BW also began. It's been a love-hate relationship for the past 4 years, but MET will keep me going for many many more years. I couldn't be more pleased unless BW/EA had better leadership and game management, etc., etc....
EDIT: And, of course, all the emotional 'feels' in MET, and the emotive music. I feel many tears of joy and sadness. Thank you BW for MET.

I didn't become familiar with Mass Effect until ME2. I was on a website where some people mentioned it and thought I would check it out. So, I picked up a copy. After starting the game I knew immediately that I was missing stuff. So I stopped and the next thing I did was get a used copy of ME1 and I have been hooked ever since. I thoroughly enjoyed the trilogy and still play it. I do like Andromeda too. It's not perfect but I do tend to be a lot more forgiving with my entertainment than many. Still, I like all the games and still enjoy them all and hope we get more.

~1 week to go until N7 Day There's now an associated specific Tumblr blog/sideblog for the campaign that you can find here ( launch post; FAQ post). You can follow it if you feel so inclined! That blog is where Tumblr posts made to the #thankyoumasseffect tag on Tumblr will be collected and reblogged; where N7 Day fanworks like art etc that are made for/posted to the tag on Tumblr will be reblogged; where queries etc about the campaign can be directed (this thread or PM etc is fine too though, whatever); where 'submissions' to the campaign (i.e. messages with your relevant sentiments) can be submitted for posting via the askbox or submitting. ** If you don't have Tumblr / don't want to use Tumblr, that's cool! we know not everyone uses tumblr and we're happy to do the crosspost/legwork for you, you can just post it here as you have been doin already (See below) ---- ** In addition to this: on there we think it would be nice to collect posts and comments made elsewhere on other platforms on the subject of the campaign, like posts made here on BSN for example, to post them there to form a 'gallery' of sorts. Like, if Bob the BSN poster had made or makes a post to this thread saying "I love Mass Effect. My favorite moment was This. My best memory of playing it is That. thanks mass effect!", we'd like to collect all of those together in one place. Quote it or screenshot it etc. And post it to the blog [with your permission, and with a sourcelink provided]. So what I'm asking on that subject then, is two things- 1. if you've already made a post like that in this thread, would it be okay with you for us to cross-post it to the 'gallery' as described here? I'll PM people to ask them individually too. nothing would be xposted w/o permission and nobody is under any obligation to let us do so. 2. please continue to make such posts to the thread, in the runup to N7 Day and around N7 day itself we can feed it all into the 'gallery', and have a nice collection of everything in one place. if you wanna do this but aren't sure what to write, here's some prompts; what drew you to Mass Effect/how did you get involved with the series? What about it are you thankful for? What are some of your favorite moments? What's your best memory associated with it? #allthefeelsuh I hope this post makes sense. Sorry my explanation and phrasing is all over the place, I have a real bad headache today. Thanks

You know what one of my favourite parts of Mass Effect was? Cerberus Daily News. I really enjoyed opening the game each day to see what the next message is, and some of the stories in there were really exciting (The War on Taetrus, the Ghost Ship of Antilin, the Discovery of the Kirik). It's a part of Mass Effect that I wish they had continued through Mass Effect 3 (covering events of the war we never see) and in Andromeda.

I can say unabashedly that the Mass Effect games are my favorite games. Period. Full stop. Back when I was a wee nipper attending college, my best friend had an xbox 360. I had zip interest in playing console games or anything that wasn't a certain monolithic MMO (and I didn't even play much of that. Time was too short and games were too dumb! Or so I thought). But I was hanging out, watching him start a Mass Effect game. And the creator blew me out of the water. I hadn't seen anything like it. AND THEN HIS CHARACTER ANIMATED AND MOVED AND INTERACTED WITH OTHER CHARACTERS. WHAT SORCORERY WAS THIS?
Of course, I had to try it for myself. And then I discovered female Shepard. He got first dibs on Mass Effect 2 when it came out (since, you know, it was his game). But that was another wild ride. Every conversation with Mordin was pure gold. And 3 just blew me away. I don't know if I'd say that I love the endings, because I still don't, but I love the visual, active nature of Control with Shepard struggling to hold onto this device that's tearing her apart. That's the good stuff; it's a punch right in the tear ducts. And I love Andromeda. The Tempest is beautiful, and I enjoy walking around it. I like being a green kid struggling to keep everything together.
And I love Mass Effect. For what it is, for what it's gotten me into over the years, for the conversations I've had about it, for all the games I've played, for all the times I've gnawed my controller in vexation, and for vanguard charge.

I had avoided looking at anything ME related because I didn't want to start up with another game obsession. Then ME2 was free in Jan, so I downloaded it, but I can't ever play "part" of a game so that meant I felt the need to purchase the other games and the DLCs. Glad I did though, since I loved ME so much.

Mass Effect is my #1 space sci-fi franchise. It's the reason I even wrote my own books (which I may get back into at some point, just don't have the time anymore since I graduated and work).
How did I find mass effect? Funny enough me and a friend are big into shooters and sports games, one day we simply got bored and headed to a store (not a game store either, just a general store that happened to have a small rack of games it'd sell) where I looked at the case of mass effect. Unfortunately it wasn't co-op but I played it myself. That's when the journey began 😁
I fell in love with the introduction right away and the dialogue was great since shooters and such don't tend to have you picking choices. I beat it then got mass effect 2 right away. The experience just kept going, ME2 put more emphasis on the characters and I grew attached to those who were returning members. I then beat 2 and got all the DLC right after and upon finishing arrival I looked up mass effect 3 and I was only 6 months away from its release(should tell you I became a fan relatively late into the franchise, 2011 late). So out comes mass effect 3 and all I had was 😭😭😭 as it was EMOTIONAL!! Game had a kick for that and it was great. I grew further attached to returning members. The story was pretty good too, showed the reapers capabilities, your perception on a losing war and just complete destruction. I wasn't to happy with the ending itself but then citadel DLC comes out and more emotion comes into play. It really was one hell of a ride and I'll never forget it, it legit brings tears to me now thinking on those feelings playing them for the first time lol. To me that shows the developers know what they're doing when they can give you those feely feels that mass effect 3 gave me.
Skip forward to Andromeda and present and my interest is still here, I want more mass effect as it's one of the few special franchises that I enjoy and love. I coman literally give page upon page on mass effect but I'm trying to really keep it as short as I can. So happy N7 day (when it comes) to everyone.

I came to computer games through Baldurs Gate which I bought after seeing my brother in-law play and I was hooked immediately staying up to the early hours of the morning just wanting to uncover one more section of the map..... I only played Fantasy games until I read an article for ME1 and was intrigued. My first impression was oh shit what do I do, I even died fighting the silly floating gas creatures at the start as I had never played a shooter before but I persevered and gradually got the hang of shooting things. Then I became obsessed with every ME game that has come out including MEA of which I am almost finished my 10th play through racking up literally thousands of hrs of gameplay over MET and MEA. So ME to me has been a guilty pleasure that I have spent way too much time on (so my wife says) and my kids give me ME presents for my birthdays and Christmas. It was terribly depressing to hear that there would be no SP DLC for MEA and my only hope is that there will be a sequel, as I cannot imagine not having a new ME game to look forward to. So thank you Bioware and thank you ME, you taught me to play shooters and you have given me an enormous amount of joy, fun, romance and even a bit of sadness (RIP Mordin and Legion) all bundled up in good stories with great characters.

Still to this day I'm still doing several playthroughs a year. In fact will likely be doing another one soon as I have a couple more Shep's planned.

I'm honestly not thrilled with what N7 day will bring us. Prolly just another "gaming for charity" event, with some words from Mike Gamble or Casey Hudson. Nothing big.

By playing Mass Effect I learned how to WASD, and ME3MP specifically taught (ok, forced ) me to use hotkeys for powers when I never did before - always used the mouse. Going back to Dragon Age after that was a whole new experience. Now if I can't WASD for movement I get salty. The first 5 minutes of every PC game I play is checking the key binding settings to make sure movement is WASD, E is interact, SPACE is jump or mantle, and CNTL is crouch (if crouching is supported). DAI was never a problem for my WASD muscle memory. But DAI does take more time to fix the bindings than any game I can remember, everything is so wrong in the default binding .... yeah that's the first thing I do when installing a new game or reinstalling one is go into the control settings and configure them the way I want. That's never changed nor ever will. because being disabled having the right control configuration is important to me as I need to set it up so I can use it.

I don't use twitter or tumblr .This is the only forum i lurk Can i add my thank you Bioware piece? I started gaming because i wanted to be a captain, In Star Trek Online back in 2010. Since i jumped straight into MMOs world, I couldn't play any single player games because I hated not having a chat to spamm live. My World came apart in 2015 , when my boyfriend - after years of asking me to at least give a try to games he played - wasn't able to play MMos with me due to work schedule. Out of boredom, I fired up Dragon Age Origins - after seeing a clip of Flemeth and Morrigan in DAI. Useless to say that I literally became an addict for almost one year. So, the next thing for me to do, try the other Bioware franchise. Oh well, new addiction. I never cry at movies , but seriously, ME3 ending had me whimper like a baby. Mordin's death, Grunt trying to hold back the rachni and when i thought i-ve lost him, Thane's sacrifice , Virmire and many many other situations made me cry and laugh . Thank you Bioware ! Now i became a lore expert and buying merchandise as a crazy hoarder. No regrets!

I got into ME because of boredom.
At the time there was nothing worth playing. So I went to the game store to see if there was something that would catch my interest. The guy mentioned ME2. He knew I had a ps3 and the first game wasn't available for the ps3. He suggested that I play the demo. Fine. I went back home, fortunately it was only a few minutes away, and loaded up the demo. It was crap. I got to the point where I saw some guy shooting at robots. and stopped. Went back to the store and told the guy it was crap. Nothing new came in the store that I saw. He said to give it another try. Fine. I finished the demo. It was still crap. Went back to the store. The guy insisted that I would like it. So he bought the game for me. In that case, fine.
The first playthrough I was lost. I was paying more attention to the controls than any of the dialogue or characters. I died a lot. I will say that I recognized Miranda's voice. The same person who starred in the tv show Chuck. I immediately recognized Martin Sheen. Good guy. But it was hearing ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL that got my attention. After that, I went back trying to get use to the controls. Got to some planet. My character hugged some other character. Don't know who it was. I saved the game. Went back to the store. Fortunately the same guy was there. He said it would be better if I got ME1 for my pc to know who my character hugged, than for him to explain. Fine. I ordered the game. Went back home and finished my first playthrough. It was crash and burn. All I can say is Shepard survived.
After I played ME1 on the pc, I started a second playthrough of ME2. This time I paid attention to the dialogue and the characters.

All can say is Shepard survived. After I played ME1 on the pc, I started a second playthrough of ME2. This time I paid attention to the dialogue and the characters. I got into ME since it was announced at X05 in 2005. At the time Bioware was riding high with NWN, KOTOR, and Jade Empire. So Bioware getting into Sci-Fi was a huge deal. Ah, those were the days.....

Dear Bioware,
My Mass Effect journey began with the September 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. The cover caught my eye, so I used my some of lawn-mowing money to buy the issue. When I got home, I must’ve read the cover story five times. It was being made by the developers of Knights of the Old Republic, which was the best game I had ever played at the time. Between that and the unique sci fi setting, I was sold. I jumped on the bandwagon not long after by registering on the online forums and checking the main site for news everyday.
I never thought that Mass Effect would come to mean so much to me, but it has. In the last ten years, I’ve lost family, friends, and more, and this franchise helped me get through it all. Mass Effect was always there for me, even when my friends and family weren’t. I know that it sounds sad when I put it like that, but it was a constant positive influence during some of the darkest times in my life. After all, there are few things as satisfying as saving an entire colony of people from an ancient plant monster, with nothing but determination and a whole lot of gas grenades.
It gave me the opportunity to be the person I had always wanted to be and encounter some wicked awesome aliens. Plus, it made me want to become a voice actor, so I could bring life to characters and help gamers in the same way that Mass Effect helped me. Meeting Raphael Sbarge, Kimberly Brooks, and Courtenay Taylor only strengthened that desire. Now, I spend a good portion of my time working on the Freelancer Codex Podcast because I have high hopes that Anthem will do the same for fans new and old. I have no idea what the future has in store for Mass Effect, but I will support it regardless. So thank you, Mass Effect and Bioware, for ten years of adventure and hope. I look forward to the next ten years.
Happy N7 Day!

That was very well done! Thank you! I tried to make one for Andromeda as well, but I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the song and will need to play many more hours to harvest clips. I cried so much during ME3. Grunt and Mordin especially did me in. I was smiling and crying at the same time because I was just so damn proud of them (and so relieved when Grunt survived)! Thank you for your kind words, dazk! Goodnight, all! See you tomorrow!
