Woha woha woha, hold the phone here. Cora is a biotic? I never knew that about her! Don't worry, it's not contagious.

Thank you for this link to the earlier thread. I missed seeing it in the older threads. Hopefully SofaJockey or another board moderator will select one of these two discussion threads to be the official thread, so there isn't confusion for posting comments about this novel.

Forget DLC, these ancillary products ARE a money printer, relatively speaking. It won't take that many sales for these things to justify themselves and compared to creating DLC, it costs a pittance. So in case anyone is under the mistaken impression that these books should've been cancelled from a financial perspective. BW's novels and comics were never really my thing but they are plenty enough people buying them, "dead game" or no.

Ah, there's an audiobook version read by Fryda Wolff.
I enjoyed her reading of Nexus Uprising, so I think I'll indulge...

You're correct. Initiation was to be first, followed by Nexus Uprising and Annihilation (original working title was Lost Ark). A fourth novel by Mac Walters was scrapped when he took on a lot of extra responsibilities. They never stated explicitly what happened, but it seemed that Ms. Jemisin simply didn't have the book finished on time. This resulted in the order of release getting shuffled. Do you have a link for this? It is my understanding that Nexus Uprising was announced first and that it was always planned to release first. Sorry, man. I failed to see this reply for a long time. I might be able to dig up some unadjusted release schedule, if I took enough time. These were first announced about a year and a half ago. The best approach would maybe be for me to find some of those old threads. As a fan of the novels, I followed the info pretty closely. This thread is a decent example. [ EDIT: Nix that. It thought it was from 2016.] Initiation was going to be first. It was to outline what the Initiative is; how it developed; introduce Cora and Alec, etc... Next, Nexus Uprising would offer an account of the events shortly after the Nexus' arrival in Andromeda-- events BioWare chose to have happen off-screen. Lastly, The Lost Ark (eventually renamed Annihilation) would address events concerning some lost ark. We eventually learned that this was the quarian ark. I think this novel clearly indicates that BioWare was never lying about the plan to explain the quarian ark via a novel, rather than DLC. They intended to tie it up in print, and then have all of the species fully integrated in MEA2. So, we are finally getting Initiation over a full year late? My enthusiasm has somewhat waned. It's a shame it didn't release on time. It wouldn't have fixed the game's issues, but it would've been fun information to have during those animated, speculative discussions we had throughout 2016.

Read the book. Pretty good read. You get a glimpse of what Cora could have been like as pathfinder with SAM. Also it gives another reason for why only the Ryder twins could become the human pathfinder.
It is hinted at that a "SAM" enhanced human could outlive Asari and Krogan.
The frustrating part of reading the book is seeing the potential missed with MEA and its story could have been so much better.
Now I really want a DLC to see who is the mysterious backer of AI, as well as the Quarian Ark. So much wasted potential.

Can’t get into details at the moment, but I listened to the audiobook.
It’s quite good. It handles Cora and Alec extremely well and provides depth to both. The universe is handled with great detail. I’d certainly recommend it to any ME fan.

Honestly at this point I really don't give a damn. I feel sorry for the writers to write books for a dead game. They think their vocal minority of ultra fanboys that line up at their quarterly panels and conventions represents the overwhelming majority of their fans and support. BioWare prefers to stick their head and turn off the light to facing the fact that they should work hard to impress the gaming audience to ever regain relevance again. At this point I have a feeling everyone at BioWare is just there to go down with the sinking ship.

That page has been updated about 5 times. I am absolutely certain of my info. I follow these novels and their dates the same as I follow the games. I have lost enthusiasm for them at this point, and have accordingly not kept track. In the beginning, though, I knew all announced dates and estimates and eagerly awaited them. I kind of wish some of last year’s daily visitors are still here to back me up. It’s not really important anyway, though. Regardless of the original plan, things went way off course, particularly with the game itself.

I'm not too interested in the books, but people keep posting wrong stuff about the releases, so as one who was following these things in 2016, just thought clearing this up would be a good idea. Again.

I’m content to move on, agreeing to disagree. Edit: Here’s a thread from last year posted by BioFan. In his vid, he talks about the books around 3:45. He addressed the fact that Initiation (originally “Andromeda Initiative”) was originally presented as the first novel. This is logically so, it’s being a prequel. It was delayed repeatedly, and eventually fell from first on the list to last. bsn.boards.net/post/111937/threadI figured I’d share this to lay this to rest sans back-and-forth. There are other threads here, also. One was actually posted by @khrystyn, our Op here, asking whether anyone knew when the first novel — the prequel Andromeda Initiative— was scheduled to release. It’s all here, starting from page 138 and working backward.

So you didn't actually watch the vid, viewing the earliest Titan page that listed Andromeda Initiative as the first novel to be released? The list you've cited above lists Initiation as the third novel to be released, which is likewise inaccurate. This is because the novel kept bouncing around, always in flux. It went from first to last to second, in the end. Keep digging into this if it's important to you. You'll eventually find that I'm correct. I'm bowing out of this conversation after this post, before it crosses into childishness. One of the earliest listings: media.titanbooks.com/filebrowser/2016_rights_guides_fiction_libf1.pdfThen, it got bumped to November 2016, nearly coinciding with the game's release. Around the time the game was delayed, the book's release date became very uncertain. It dropped from first to third on the list, with no solid date given. It finally reappeared just very recently, about a year late, as I said upthread. This is all available in one of the threads you linked. You just have to start reading from page one with the earliest posts in the thread.

I remember things being exactly as you mentioned, because at the time, like you, I was also closely following news of the novels. Not on these forums, but in publisher-related media. And yeah, I recall being disappointed that Initiation didn't make its original publication date and also that it wouldn't be the first book after all. Regarding the bouncing around, I remember at one point wondering if that particular book was going to end up being cut from the list or something. Sadly, at this point I don't really care very much anymore.

Oh, it's about Cora. How disappointing. Not going to bother with it, then. While Cora is heavily favored, Alec Ryder, and SAM play a large part. Had this been released along side the game it would have given Alec's very brief appearance in game a lot more weight. And depending on how much influence SAM may have on Scott Ryder, it adds a new element to the Scott/SAM and Cora romance.

Oh, it's about Cora. How disappointing. Not going to bother with it, then. You should the book is good. Very interesting story so far.

Look, you were there from the start of that thread and I was there. You link to the first glimpse we got that any books were planned at all (and when the first was expected to release in case the game would be released then), while I link to the first hint we got at the actual release schedule for the three books that were green lit in the end, the first hint at the Novels actual names and then to the official announcement. A comment on how long a book got delayed can IMO only be viable if compared to the officially announced schedule. That's all I'm saying. BTW: I get where you are coming from, because Jemisin was the first author to be mentioned while we waited for news, I just disagree, that the speculative status before the actual announcement is the right reference.
