Alright, can I just say that I've never bought into the idea that MEA was a lighthearted game. I mean, seriously, I feel like the developers just said the game was lighthearted and everyone decided to agree with them. MEA is a game where the main antagonists are genocidal monsters, with no redeeming values, that have potentially converted hundreds of other species and plan to same to the angarians and Initiative races. They plan to do this by murdering anyone who resists and throwing everyone else into literal concentration camps where people are forced into back-breaking slavery until they are "exalted" into soulless Kett clones that will precede to fight against their own people. The Kett are basically Reapers but instead of being inspired by Lovecraft their every real world evil from Nazism, Communism, Religious zealotry, to colonialism, all rolled into one race. For fuck's sake we get to see the corpses of dissected salarians on the Archeon's ship. How the fuck is that a lighthearted adventure? Because Liam makes a stupid joke every once in a while and had a fun loyalty mission? And don't even get me started on how the threat of starvation, power loss, and anarchy on the Nexus is quickly handwaved once the Hyperion shows up. MEA's premise is horrifying and yet for some reason the narrative and writing rarely captures that and instead distracts itself with bland subquests and characters. It's just so tonely off that it almost gives me a headache. The Citadel DLC could be argued to have the same problem but to me it felt like the writers knew that DLC was basically non-canon and just decided to have fun with an evil clone plot that made no sense. Regardless, I wish MEA was genuinely lighthearted. Completely remove the Kett and just make this a game about a crew of space explorers in a new galaxy discovering new worlds and civilizations in the final frontier. Or actually admit that Space Nazis are not a joke or Saturday morning cartoon villains and make this the dark game that it truly is. MEA tries to do both and a consequence fails at both. That's my opinion anyway. Exactly, I don't see how anyone could call Andromeda light-hearted for this reason. That's a pretty damn dark story line.

Not at all, I really don't see why people keep bringing this up. From what I've played of Andromeda (haven't beaten it yet), it's tonally very different from the Citadel DLC. Agreed. The Citadel DLC humor came from the causal and natural interaction between the characters. MEA felt like it was actively trying to be fun and yet failing at it because of how obvious they were being. Liam's puns and Peebee's manic pixie girl shenanigans being the biggest culprits. So far I actually like Peebee more than I thought I would. But boy are Liam's puns unfunny.

Oh and wasn't the team responsible for MEA the ones who did the DLC for ME3? They only worked on Omega, The Citadel was done by the ME3 team as a farewell to the franchise. Also worth noting that Omega was the lowest rated ME3 DLCs. Something to consider....

After ME3's genial ending BW came up with something that wrapped up the trilogy , bringing everyone in, making it more humorous and it saved the day. Mind you some people still managed to poopoo the DLC.. fan service, blah blah blah...but it was an excellent piece of closure.
But i think mostly they wanted to avoid a dark and gloomy atmosphere which permeated ME3 as a whole. I have to admit after surviving the early game bad sitcom attempts i did think " gah, bad Citadel imitation". But at some point the dialogues evolved and had no resemblance to the DLC.

Would that be a bad thing? Citadel was wildly successful, one of the best DLCs that bioware has done why not try. And what's wrong with the occasional light entertainment. Not everything has to be GoT It's all about balance. Like I said, Citadel countered ME3, which was too "Game of Thrones" What we want is a mix of the two.

Eh, I don't think ME3 was anywhere near Game of Thrones. I guess maybe if you count Kai Leng's Ramsay-esque plot armor that kept the sonombitch alive longer than he any right to be, but otherwise the game didn't really have GoT's level of brutality, at least not really on-screen.

Yep, I also think instead of being fan service like The Citadel DLC they were trying too hard to give people what they were asking for. I really do think the biggest problem with BioWare Montreal was the lack of experienced leadership. Between what I have read and how Andromeda and Omega DLC it just seems they took a very laidback approach to what the developers themselves wanted to do and didn't or were unable to give the guidance needed.

I don't think so, and I don't think MEA is all that lighthearted. I think it's just people dealing with a rather crappy situation. I find the premise of MEA rather depressing, actually. It's people escaping for various reasons under the guise of adventure. Then they are trapped in a new galaxy and everyone they knew in the Milky Way is dead, either by Reapers or time.

I agree, I don't think it was at the same level as Game of Thrones, but maybe more like Man of Steel or one of the other first three movies in the DCU. Very gloomy with very little joy.

Never got an opportunity t play Citadel, 'cause BioWARE Origin DLC prices suck & is not included into the PC trilogy, so... can't judge. Loved Andromeda, though, so I probably would have enjoyed Citadel. But it would not have had my favorite companions anyway, since the ME3 cast is very meh.... Citadel DLC is free. Just saying.

No, it's 1200 BioWARE points, which translates into $15 CND. Just checked. I am on PC. If I bought all the BioWaRE DLCs for ME2 and ME3 that are not included with the Trilogy Edition of the game I picked up, it would cost me more than AC:Origins, in other words brand new AAA title, or a dozen of full contemporary to those DLC games on sale on Steam. Hence, the DLC pricing sucks.

And there is no bundle to DLC-out your install. There is no pack that has all the games and all the DLCs. I've bought Trilogy in early 2014 for $30 or so when it was on sale, and at the time I was out of the loop so much that i did not even know what DLCs were.

DLCs are absurdly expensive indeed. I bought the trilogy at a banana price, but it only came a few dlcs together. If I am not mistaken, the two of ME1 and the two companions of ME2.

I do recall that on consoles they had to release it in two parts due to its size, and in paying for part 1, you could get part 2 for "free"
