Do you like EuroJankBioWareOnATinyBudget? Because that is what Spider is: a 20-30 permanent developers studio that makes BioWareIsh games (similar to Jade Empire/Mass Effect/Dragon Age Origins).

If yes, you can try Spider's other games: Mars War Logs, Bound By Flame and Technomancer.

What to expect:
clunky combat and animations,
random difficulty spike (although not often),
voice acting all over the place,
sometimes terrible dialogues in Bound By Flame (it's so bad, it's good totally apply, at least for me), 
good word building/settings and interesting characters/companions (outside dialogues, writing is generally good),
great soundtracks (especially Technomancer).

Mars: War Logs and Technomancer are in the same Alter-Earth universe set on Mars. Bound By Flame and GreedFall are fantasy settings (and unrelated as far as I know).

Native Magic still mysterious. We only see Siora use some kind of summoning spell on cut scene and some green spell that look like basic attack.

I've been reading an old interview from last April.

You know something is a passion project when the CEO/Creative Director/LeadWriter says: We’re 35 in our team, with 40 at the moment working on the game. We are developing this because we love the type of game. There aren’t that many studios doing this type of games today. I mean, even BioWare have stopped doing it and I’m very sad because it’s what I like to play the most.

Sometimes I wonder how they manage to make the game they do with that dev team size.

Ouch... I mean, I've thought it a little since Andromeda had some restricted roleplaying (enough that I rage quit my first try, only to come back later with adjusted expectations and STILL being annoyed on occasion.) Anthem has little Roleplaying capabilities at all, at least what I watched of the first 4 hours. I hate auto dialogue.

Everybody lauds AC Odyssey, but I tried RPing in that game and it was a failure if you wanted to play a person who wasn't just a hotheaded meat head. I would go out of my way not to kill people, and valued learning from the NPCs in Greece...only for Kassandra to auto-threaten to murder people in scenes, and to scoff at ever trying to learn a bit of politics or history because it was all over her head. She's just a simple merc why do all these over educated jerks bother talking to her

And I was actually impressed with the different outlooks of Geralt I could bring out in the Witcher by CDPR, only for them to go into Cyberpunk and make another auto dialogue character prone to violence and drinking. and I'm like, what the hell? you had a seriously hyper intelligent stoic but emotional male witcher to work with for years to learn from? And now that you don't have a book to tell you what a character should be like, you're going for promiscuous alchoholic merc by default?

anyway, to your question about a team of 35. June 28th 2016 was when Technomancer was released. I don't know if they outsourced some artwork/animations (therefore don't consider them part of "the team"_, were already working in pre production on this story while doing technomancer, are using the same program, so not suffering from DAI/Andromeda/Anthem problems of shifting to Frostbite...

I'm not worried.

And just like that I lost a lot of potential respect for Spiders. First, they aren’t ones to talk. Second, I hate when companies take pot shots at other companies. Be more professional.

Compared to other RPG developers, their games are awfully lacking so they aren’t really in a position to snark about others.

Spiders CEO is a she and she was referencing to what I would call mid/late-2000 BioWare, as that is what Spiders games are styled after. It's not just the roleplaying choices, there is something distinctively "(old) BioWare" in the presentation as well (cinematic, writing structure/themes and even art style).

Really, Spiders games look&feel more BioWare than Obsidian sequels to KoTOR and NWN did.


Spiders are clearly huge fans of (old) BioWare, I really doubt that comment was a snark or a pot shot at them.
