At this point, I just want to make a new Star Wars: Battlefront 2 thread that, you know, actually discusses the game and this kind of stuff not allowed. Any attempt at those conversations in here get drowned out by this nonsense.

I have some sympathy for Hanako's view, so I've split off the post above for people who actually want to discuss the game itself. (assuming there's anyone left that didn't boycott it or refund it) If you want to talk about the wider issues, that thread is over here: bsn.boards.net/thread/13351If eventually, things calm down, we can fold the two threads back together.

So Hanako, what's your favorite class. Specialist, followed by Heavy. Assault and Officer are fun too though. What is yours?

Specialist is mine favourite as well. It perhaps received a slight over-nerf from the Beta (where, in fairness, the burst rifles and Infiltraton were pretty strong e.g. I had some 70+ kill games without even using a hero), but it's still fun to play as especially once you get it and its weapons upgraded. Main downside is all the stuff that can instagib you because of the low health, but you just have to keep situational awareness.
Officer is probably my next favourite, followed by Assault. Heavy needs a buff IMO but maybe I just suck with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Go tto admit I liked Iden's response though when she was told about her orders. I did too. It's mostly the orders she was given (or why anyone with any sense followed them) that I take more issue with but Empire's gonna Empire I guess. Iden was actually great IMO (that she's fast becoming my favourite hero to play in the MP over my old mainstay Fett helps). My only niggle is that I'd wished she (and Del) had a few more introspective moments later in the game. There's a little bit (story spoiler) of commentary on their decision both right after they go rogue and later when you go undercover to try and catch Hask/ Admiral Versio
but I think there were opportunities for some more detailed development of the characters there. Nonetheless, the game piqued my interest in them enough that I do plan to read the tie in novel on them when I get a chance.

So is the game actually any good? Played the Beta (no way I am spending money on this crap) and can't say I was really all that impressed with it. Even if we ignore the microtransactions the game seemed pretty shallow and altogether uninteresting, certainly a far cry from the Battlefront of old pre EA.
Is the full release better than the Beta or was the Beta a fairly accurate representation of what to expect?

If you're talking MP the Beta's pretty much what to expect from a core gameplay perspective, apart from balance changes, bug fixes and a lot more content to play with. If you didn't like it I'd pass. I can't really compare this game fairly to the original, as I wasn't really a gamer and never played that one in its heyday, thus it just seems dated nowadays. Probably one of those things where you'd need the nostalgia of playing it with your mates when it was big to get why it's so loved now. The new game has a class system like the old ones and the splitscreen element is a lot better than the 2015 game's was. Seems they tried to move it closer to being a faithful successor to the older ones.

Still hate the vehicle system in the new battlefronts, wish you could just enter and exit vehicles freely as a ground trooper instead of having to spawn and live and die as a vehicle.

So which characters need to be unlocked? Heroes: Chewbacca - 10,000 Credits Luke Skywalker - 15,000 Credits Leia Organa - 10,000 Credits Han Solo - Unlocked Rey - Unlocked Lando Calrissian - Unlocked Yoda - Unlocked Villains: Boba Fett - Unlocked Bossk - Unlocked Darth Vader - 15,000 Credits Emperor Palpatine - 10,000 Credits Kylo Ren - Unlocked Darth Maul - Unlocked Iden Versio - 5,000 Credits And next month the The Last Jedi DLC comes out, and among that new content there are two new characters: Finn for the Heroes and Captain Phasma for the Villains. Also they are working on General Greivous, so once finished he and Obi-Wan will be released in one of the DLCs.

My problem with this game aside from the gambling of course is this. Both the last and this Battlefront is weighing heavily on promoting the upcoming Star Wars flicks. Instead of having various heroes or maps from across all of the films, they generally have a select few heroes and/or maps from the new movies despite the fact that the game's map and factions seem to generally consist of both the Republic, the Empire and the CIS. Like you have Darth Maul but you can't fight him as Obi-Wan Kenobi? So unlike the previous Battlefront 2 where you could recreate the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan on Mustafar you get a game with barebones content, that feels more like a tie-in game title if nothing else.
I remember when I watched the Giantbomb quick look on the gane, and it just looked really tedious. I don't like how the starfighter combat has been bunked down to you litterally just spawning in the middle of space in a tie-fighter. I miss the aspect of boarding a ship from your capital flagship, and landing on the enemy's ship to destroy it from within. That was part of what made the starfighter combat great in the old games. The campaign in Battlefront 2 by Pandemic, if you can call it a ‘campaign’, was basically just you playing as a Clone Trooper through the most important battles in the Star Wars saga. Couple that together with some haunting narration from Temeura Morrison, and you got a campaign that already feels more fulfilling than the cheese that EA dished out. Battlefront’s formula always felt out of place with a story mode, you don’t have to look further than the ‘stealth sections’ with Iden’s awkward walking animation like straight out of Mass Effect Andromeda.
EA’s Battlefront 2 is not really the bold next step I wanted from this franchise, it’s a slightly better game than the last one but is more or less just a Battlefield reskin with little imagination. I’ll settle with th original Battlefront 2, which has even gotten its servers back up so you can play it online again.

I actually appreciated them trying to do something else with the story mode. I just wish the campaign was co-op/split-screen. It’s not like the game was making any sort of use out of the feature anyway. Being able to run through the first mission with a co-op buddy flying around as the droid would have been really fun and engaging.

I bought the game yesterday and Ive just finished the campaign So Im gonna share some thoughts Id give the game 8/10 But the rest Im gonna stick in spoiler tags The campaign is really fun. Iden is awesome, shes a nice character and even though like we havent really spent much time with her, I like her. The game is really beautiful, the cutscenes are amazing and the environments are great. Its really nice to explore the SW universe more and I had lots of fun playing it Its one of the only shooters ive really enjoyed, and I think it deserves some credit for that There is so much good stuff to say about the game! The campaign ive loved every second of My favorite level though had to be either the first or the Jakku mission, I cant really choose/decide On the other side of things when it comes to the criticism, I feel the weakest part of the game and its narrative were the missions where you play as Luke/Han/Leia/Lando. I think those levels would have been better staying with Iden and going for a more gradual change to the Rebellion than what we saw, and like give us more time with the character. Because those missions dont really add anything to the narrative and feel very separate from the story theyre telling, almost like its either just a showcase of what the multiplayer is like or the developers didnt think that Idens story could stand alone, but it can and should have done imo. The Han/Leia/Lando missions were also the weakest in gameplay also in my opinion. Their powers were generally weaker than Idens, no first person view and they felt to have really low health. I was playing on the easiest difficulty (for people who want to wander/admire the scenery) and those levels felt wayyyyy too hard and they were the cause of most of my deaths in the campaign. Ohhhhh also I got really excited because Hask is played by Detective Lance from Arrow and during the last moments of the game I was like "Huh. That looks a lot like the guy from Arrow... *googles* omg omg omg what are you doing here, shouldnt you be helping Oliver Queen???" The woman who plays Iden also has been in Arrow About Iden, I really loved in the cutscenes how the emotion showed on her face I played a little of the Arcade mode and had some fun slicing things as Kylo Ren. Hes my favorite hero that ive tried so far and I even used him in a game of heroes vs villains which led to a funny moment where I think Darth Maul knocked Lando Calrissian off a platform and I used Kylos paralyze ability and he just hovered in the air before eventually falling It made me laugh. Ive played the campaign and a few games of multiplayer and I only have 4 heroes left to unlock even though Ive only bought Iden Versio, so im fairly sure whatever people were worried about unlocking heroes was nonsense Something else I didnt like was the kiss between Iden and the other soldier guy. It felt so forced and weird but I think it could have been fixed by a longer campaign or more time spent with Iden but meh Oh but everything takes a really long time to load, idk why. If anyone is on PS4 and wants to add me, my name is GeneralXIV
