www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/11/14/activision-is-doing-loot-boxes-right-ea-is-doing-them-horribly-wrong/#1dfe7923b247“Yeah, I’m heading back here, as I think this was a loot box system that was a canary in the coal mine a lot of what EA is doing now, even if it wasn’t as clear or as controversial at the time with everyone so focused on funny face memes. Mass Effect Andromeda got away with its loot boxes because it wasn’t a PvP multiplayer game. There was nothing in the co-op vs. AI mode that would “unbalance” it in favor of anyone except the players over the AI, so if your teammates were whales, that only really helped you. But all of that was cover for what was pretty much the most clear example of a mobile gacha model in a AAA console game I’ve seen to this point. The way you got new heroes in the multiplayer mode was to find them in loot boxes. And to take them to their max potential, you had to find multiple copies of them, as dupes would take them to mass rank. But on some of the more rare heroes, that was next to impossible, and you could spend hundreds of dollars on randomized loot boxes and still not max the hero you wanted, or even find them in the first place. And yes, in every single way the game sold power, as duping weapons would make them stronger and you’d also get consumable items that would heavily turn the tide of battle. All of this was ignored because it was just co-op, but it was a sign of things to come.” Pretty brilliant actually.

But MEA wasn't the first Mass Effect game to do Loot Boxes. Mass Effect 3 was.

Huh, I thought MEA was pretty close to ME3's model, too?
I'm not seeing the OP's argument...

The assertion you've made in the thread title and the material you've quoted have nothing to do with each other. What connection are we supposed to be seeing here?

Andromeda's model was not all that different from ME3's model. The main difference between the two is that Andromeda's packs are filled with about twenty times more worthless crap than ME3's packs.

If you want to pin the blame on something, then blame ME3. Is ME 3 really the prototype for this stuff. I mean I know I only became aware of them during playing ME3 MP but was it really the first game EA (or anyone else) tried this?

So nobody cares that they diluted the rare pool with gold versions of common weapons that you need to get 20 times to remove, get multiple versions of characters for all their skill points otherwise that character is gimped, or how a lot of characters are ultra rare compared to me3.
Should t be surprised as there are already people defending battlefront 2

Basic logic of feeding the development of DLC via MTs and have said DLCs be free for everyone was sound. Gotta give you the execution of the MTs, though. I only do defence of things that are worth the time and effort.

See, lootboxes in BF2 are like communism. Looks great on paper, but God forbid you try to put it into practice.
