Nah, it's a dev's rendition of DR at the end of a DAMP match, staring at her newly acquired HoK ring, saying, "gawd this took forever to drop."

I think it'll be an option, in at least some capacity. I hope it is, anyway. I really hope so, too. Yes what he's considering doing is appalling, but he hasn't done it yet, and we know he has a kind heart from some of the seemingly minor things we did (like taking the time to lay flowers on a stranger's grave). Also, a spirit of Compassion loved him. I think there is hope that he could redeem himself still. He also caused everything that happened in DAI with Corypheus to happen, so it’s not like he hasn’t done anything yet. I hope there is an option for those who want him to survive, so long as there is an option to put him down like the rabid dog he is.

Anders in a nutshell. So... do you guys think Solas is gonna survive DA4? I think it'll be an option, in at least some capacity. I hope it is, anyway. I'd like the option to recruit him as a companion if we spare him, because we've not really had antagonist-turned-ally in a Bioware game for a while now. In Origins and Awakening, three of the Warden's companions actively tried to murder them and they still let them join (leading to an hilarious conversation between Zevran and Loghain).

He'd have to be very powered down again by that point, I think. Although it *would* be nice to just say "Solas" pointedly when you're about to die and the foe instantly turns to stone.

The "Solas." button could be the long cooldown power on your hotbar for endgame. lol Or he'd be OP for a scripted section of the game, like DA2's prologue, and then lose it and revert back to "fairly strong, but mostly normie, hobo-mage with a wolf fetish" for the rest of the game.

I haven't actually done a playthrough recruiting Loghain, but I have Youtubed it, and his attitude when Zevran has that conversation with him makes me want to. lol It's my canon worldstate that Loghain becomes a Warden in Origins and heroic sacrifices himself in Inquisition.
As much as I hate having to lose Alistair, Loghain's redemption in DAI makes that decision ultimately worth it. Recruiting him is also worth it because you get to understand his motivations a bit more and that he wasn't power-hungry, but really did think he was doing the right thing to protect Ferelden.
Having that kind of conversation with Solas if we can talk him down and get him to join us, would be really eye-opening to learn exactly what was going on in his mind and why he was doing all the things he did in Inquisition, Trespasser and DA4.

A cool Solas tidbit for anyone who missed the DA Day Q&A with Karin and Patrick... (We're working on having them available for viewers on the DA Day Twitch channel and YouTube so you don't have to take my word for it.)
Patrick said that when the Inquisitor gets pushy and arrogant with Solas, Solas is "genetically incapable" of not becoming arrogant and pushy back. And likewise, if the Inquisitor approaches him humbly, he will respond in kind. He reflects what is directed at him.
I thought this was kind of neat as it lends more weight to the idea that Solas is a spirit incarnate, as it suggests that he reacts like a spirit would to emotions/the Inquisitor's expectations.

I mean... I do that myself Not to an extent fictional characters can do, but stories do kinda have to simplify or over-emphasize things a bit for the sake of storytelling. It's what most humans do. Most humans on Thedas are also probably 'spirits incarnate' as well. Cassandra is alluded by Cole to be Faith, for example, and we know that Solas in love tells Lavellan that she has some kind of marvelous spirit. If anything, the whole Solas 'reacting like spirit would' could also be cultural or a result of his upbringing/past experiences, and not necessarily an indicator of his nature as a spirit or something.

midnight tea It's the way it was said - Patrick actually said "genetically incapable," and they thought this needed to be said about Solas, in particular. Not any of the other characters in the game. Yes, IRL humans will mimic the accents of the people that are around them, it's true. But "genetically impossible" has also been used by David Gaider to try to explain why there are no half-elves in Thedas and why elf-human hybrids are fully human. It's something weird and magical. Weird and magical usually means spirits, in Dragon Age. And then Solas even explains to the Inquisitor that spirits look like you expect them to. It all adds up to a tantalizing possibility. That is all.

Fascinating! I can't wait to check out the video. Sadly the Twitch VOD's sound got messed up really badly somehow, but we're working on getting the original pre-recorded video put up on YouTube for those who missed seeing it on DA Day.

That is all. I didn't hear it myself, so I don't know what kind of tone PW used and such, but I've read it more as emphasis on Solas psychologically reflecting back what he receives and being pretty much set in stone that way (also - if he's unique that way, that he can't be like other spirits, ey? And we DID have an actual spirit as a companion. Seems more like he's unique, because he's had a very unique life experience), and not necessarily as something to be taken literally... Especially that we know, from Patrick Weekes themself, that elves don't really work in terms of genetics, same way others do. So why would Solas be 'genetically impossible' in a literal sense, when his physicality and mentality doesn't really work genetically per se - and in fact it's supposed to be an indicator of a nature of an entity that is completely non-physical? Like, spirits 100% don't work in terms of genetics, because they are - well - spirits, and also their tendency to reflect back isn't genetic in itself, but more the way magic (and psychology) works in that world.

It's the Solas Thread, not the "Solas and the Inquisitor" thread. His story arc bridges both games in a significant way. It's something we talked about before anyway.

I mean by the time of DA4, Solas will be a completely different character who has no connection to the new characters. So having a completely different thread about that new persona fits better than moving this one. It’s not like it’s first time it’s been done for a character.

If Tevinter Knights is anything to go off of, he’ll not be using that persons anymore since it no longer serves a purpose and is a known alias.

It also might just be a way of saying that he's got a stubborn streak a mile wide and just cannot resist sniping back when provoked (beyond a certain threshold).
He's like Morrigan like that. I blame Mythal.
(Its probably both things, though.)
EDIT: Also, do we have some indication we're gonna get some news at the TGAs this year that I've missed? Beyond precedent, I mean.

They stated there will be some sort of video. And on Tweitter said it wouldn't be concept art with devs talking how much they love the series.
