Hmm. I agree to an extent. I know people like to say that Solas is a failure that should've just never tried, but really, let's stop and think about what Thedas would be like if Solas had never been in it - and by "Thedas" I mean "The lifeless Blighted husk where Thedas would've been because Solas wasn't there to stop the Evanuris from destroying the world, likely via Blight stuff." The Veil's creation did cause lots of damage, and Solas obviously regards it as a mistake - but really, what was the alternative? Doing nothing? Letting the Evanuris destroy the world? And that supposedly would be better? I know the "find a better way" crowd exists, but I still say it's hopelessly naive to say that when the demigod who's got a far deeper understanding of these things and millenia to think on them couldn't find it. If the PC does find such a thing, I'd say that's less a sign of Solas' incompetence and more a sign of how blatantly these games coddle the player character. ...Although, really, even if the PC doesn't find a better way - hell, even if they're for some reason forced into seeing Solas' plan through - you'd still have people who'd insist he was somehow wrong but the Inquisitor was right. There's just such a weird double standard in how people treat NPCs versus PCs. Look at Shepard - they destroy an entire planet full of innocents, players say it was a regrettable course of action but ultimately for the greater good. Solas destroys part of the world to stave off it's complete destruction, players say he's a failure who needs to sit down and shut up. Hypocrisy? What's that?Still, I say it was a mistake in that, while it did it's job and was preferable to the alternative, it does seem sort of odd that 1) Solas would take it as a solution before something else (I assume he tried straight-up murder and it didn't work, but how did he go from that to the Veil? What made him believe it was the best way?) and 2) Solas was somehow unaware of it's consequences. At the very least, he appears to be unaware of it's consequences. Maybe he knew full well what it would lead to, but hoped that the survivors would find their way. Also Wolf Among Us is the best Telltale game I will fight someone over this. Because if they are the person making the decision then its justified. Everyone else simply doesn't understand. There may have been an alternative way of stopping the Evanuris, but right now we simply don't know enough about the situation to determine whether or not creating the Veil was the best option. He might have been pressed for time, threatened from all sides by the Evanuris, or other solutions might have taken too long to implement and he had to create the Veil before something worse happened. Who really knows? I believe for now that it was the only option he could have taken to stop a very real and credible threat to the existence of life, and I can't blame anyone for having to make that decision. What I don't understand is precisely why he wants to destroy the Veil. I don't believe it is just because he feels guilty about his part in what happened to the elves and wants to make things right. I think there is something else that he hasn't told us about that makes him believe that destroying the Veil is better for the world. Yes it will return elves to their former glory, but who suffers because of it? The humans? The Qunari? If destroying the Veil only shuffles suffering away from elves onto others at the cost of thousands or millions of lives then what is the point? One of Solas' biggest flaws for me is how he takes responsibility for other people's actions when they lay outside of his control. He is responsible for crippling the elven empire and weakening magic for everyone. He didn't make Tevinter enslave the elves, or send Andraste to save them. He didn't create the conflict at Red Crossing, create an Exalted March on the Dales and force the elves into alienages. He sort of denies everyone else their own agency and piles it all on himself, ignoring that it is probably likely that they would all be dead if he hadn't created the Veil.

Yay! I just got my copy of The Masked Empire! I'm excited to know exactly wtf is going on with Halamshiral and to finally meet Felassan. Hi, Garnet! It's been so long! That's awesome about the book. I'm still on the fence about reading it because I'm already very spoiled to what happens in it. experience the raw joy of Felassan first-hand

Fen'Harel makes me sad where is Solas in that? Also, hiiii, Solas!! I know it took awhile, but I finally found you guys and made it here!

I definitely agree with this right here. He'd probably say that none of those would have happened if he hadn't put up the Veil but I've never been a fan of passing along the blame. At some point people have to take responsibility for their own actions - or rather, in this case, Solas will have to see that those actions were the responsibility of others. I also think that the only way we're really going to stop Solas (other than possibly killing him) is if we get him to set aside a lot of his guilt and self-blame.

There's a good balance somewhere between being the kind of person who takes no responsibility and blames everyone/the world/fate/God or gods and the kind of person who has a martyr complex where everything is their fault and Fade forbid that bad things happen that are out of their control! I agree that Solas is in the latter category. Even though everything that we know of modern Thedas is as it is because of Solas's decision to take down the Veil, he still shouldn't shoulder every hurt in this world as his fault, because we don't know, and neither does he know, that the alternative world would be any better. He did make huge mistakes, decisions that didn't have the outcome he wanted, but just because they're his mistakes doesn't mean that they're the worst thing that could have happened. That's just Solas's way of thinking, and it's very conceited if you think about it. Ah, Pride. Also, I agree he'll have to let go of his angst to move on

I'm working on a Felassan FixIt fic It's no where near ready to post yet, I want to at least get the complete first draft done so I don't have any glaring holes that keep me from regular updates. It will ofc end up far from canon, but that is the point of a fixit fic right? I have a new Lavellan character and my OC Cara will also be part of the story. Best Wlf needs to have more of a roll than what TME gave him. Welcome back NeverlandHunter glad you found us!

It sucks that so many people love Felassan so much and he'll probably only ever officially be in that one book. It almost sounds like a waste of a good character! But hey, that's why we have fanfiction! Speaking of which, what's a fixit fic? A fanfiction where the author writes a happy ending? And what does ofc stand for? I will forever be outside of the new phrases, abbreviations, and words club!

It doesn't necessarily turn a sad ending into a happy one (Although that's a common type.) A fix-it fic can also, for instance, split up a canon couple so that the author's preferred but non-canon couple can be possible. Fics that prevent Felassan from dying are fix-its. Fics that split up Ron and Hermione and pair either with Harry are fix it fics. Fics that rewrite the ME3 ending are fix it fics.

I really, really like that song and video. And I would be all over an ending where we turn the Dread Wolf, only to make a deadly enemy out of another close companion.

I know there's no form And no labels to put on To this thing we keep And dip into when we need And I don't have the right To ask where you go at night But the waves hit my head To think someone's in your bed
I get a little bit Genghis Khan I don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me I get a little bit Genghis Khan Don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me
And the lights, they glow Like I just lost the World War And the scene slips away To the evenness I fake It's a cheat somewhere 'Cause I don't really want you, girl But you can't be free 'Cause I'm selfish, I'm obscene
I get a little bit Genghis Khan I don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me I get a little bit Genghis Khan Don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me
I wanna make up my mind But I don't know myself No I don't know myself I wanna make up my mind But I don't know myself No I don't know myself I wanna make up my mind But I don't know myself No I don't know myself

I went back to sleep trying to shake my migraine, not working very well. I am usually the one outside the chat/internet slang/abbreviations myself, and don't often use them in a forum post. They used to set my OCD into high gear, I would have to resist the urge to quote someone to correct their shorthand, internet speak. But I've learned to accept some people will always ask 'how r u?' or say 'c u l8r'

It's interesting what unrelated thing can make you pick up a game again. I think it's been just about a year since the last time I put any significant amount of time into DAI.
I was on a Netflix bender and decided to check out a show called "Happy Valley". James Norton (aka Cole) plays a pretty significant role on the show. I didn't know he was in it until after I had started watching it. Anyways, all I could hear was Cole which got me all nostalgic for how much I love Cole so I picked up the game again to try and finish one of my many in progress Inquisitors.
Settled on my Trev'mage doing a romance I hadn't yet; Blackwall. I was going to try to do a run this time where Solas hates my Inquisitor because it's also something I've never experienced in game (aside from Blackwall romance), but I just can't do it, lol.
Nice to see our little Blanketfort is still a very busy place. I pop in often just to see how everyone is, but never have anything to add to the discussion. Welcome back Neverland Hunter!

I am currently running a Trev warrior/templar who argues spirits aren't people (though that'll change when she meets Cole) and I'm having trouble doing it. lol I have fair-weather friends on just to try to ensure it happens. Though she's not really the type to punch an unarmed guy in the face, so I'm wondering if I'm not taking full advantage of this playthrough anyway and they are in fact destined to be respectful friends/rivals?

Though she's not really the type to punch an unarmed guy in the face, so I'm wondering if I'm nto taking full advantage of this playthrough anyway and they are in fact destined to be respectful friends/rivals? This is the aspect of roleplaying in games that I really struggle with. It's the same reason why even playing a Renegade Shepard I still avoid doing terrible things, but just use the Renegade dialogue option to end up with the same outcome that I would have playing Paragon Shepard. It also is greatly dependent on how emotionally invested I am with particular outcomes that determines if I can 'go through with it'. In other words -- almost never, lol. I think there was only one time in Origins I let myself kill the Dalish for the werewolves, and that was just to get the achievement for it. I think Origins is the only game (aside from KOTOR) that I could do the darker things. I think the biggest reason for that was the lack of voice acting for the player character. For me, it was always easier to do that stuff if I didn't have to hear my character saying it. (Oddly I find it very easy to go Dark Side in the Old Republic games.) Every single Inquisitor ends up friends with Solas. I am weak.

Thank you, Theneras! Well, your questions have been answered Thanks you guys! But I've learned to accept some people will always ask 'how r u?' or say 'c u l8r' I'm the same way, Theneras. My dad texts me like a dyslexic ten year old and it kills me. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME, FATHER? If someone abbreviates too much on the internet I can not have a conversation with them, but that doesn't work so well with family. *deep breaths* I'm not bothered at all by simple shortenings-- fic, pic, lol, OTP, etc. (even though you'll catch me more often than not fully typing out words), but jhdfssjhfehfe swejkhrfieufoi to the English language is jhsfshdef jdhfejrnfj! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING! I can't imagine how difficult it is for people who aren't born English speakers to try and decipher that crap.
In response to the video that hurt my soul was a teeny bit pessimistic when relating it to SolasxLavellan, I have this! WARNING: Is extremely 80s and the lyrics don't begin until around the 1:30 mark. Lyrics for Headed For The Future
Hey,
We're headed for the future
Give us some room
We're gonna build a new world
Say,
We're headed for the future
Give us some time
We're gonna make it work right
Yeah,
We're gonna build a new dream
We've got to make it stand tall
It's got to last a long time
Lean on me
And I'm gonna lean on you
We're headed for the future
And the future's now
Show you how
Hey,
We're headed for a new place
A step at a time
We're gonna take a long ride
Time
Don't wait around forever
We've got to do it right now
Let's do it all together
Lean on me
And I'm gonna lean on you
We're headed for the future
And the future's now
Show you how
Lean on me
'Cause I'm gonna lean on you
We're headed for the future
Come on,
Lean on me
And I'm gonna lean on you
We're headed for the future
And the future's ours
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Yeah
Positivity, okay! And optimism! That's all we need *sobs* just for Solas to be positive! Lavellan is going to die broken and alone, isn't she? POSITIVE!

Thanks, Lucinia! I'm the same way with having a bunch of started, but unfinished Inquisitors. I did this with Origins too Ithilia Lavellan (m)- Completed main quest, all companion side quests, probably all quests with cutscenes, all important DLC quets (minus the Descent, still haven't played it) and a heck of a lot of rubbish quests! Maeve Trevelyan (r)- Mostly through the Iron Bull romance, midwayish through the main quests, did a lot of companion quests (different choices and all that), no DLC, rubbish and that stupid Druffalo quest. Ayena Trevelyan (m)- Mostly through the Cullen romance, almost done the main quests, most of the companion quests (got friendships where I didn't with Maeve and didn't get some she did), no DLC, minimum rubbish and still that stupid Druffalo quest. Gawaina Cadash (r)- I haven't made it to the title sequence (I wanted to see what is said to the dwarf Inquisitor in the first interactive banter) Zora Adaar (m)- Haven't made it to the title (wanted to hear what was said and to make a Qunari) FOR THE FUTURE- Thalion Lavellan (r), Alma Cadash (w), Malacath Adaar (w), Jonas Trevelyan (w), Henric Trevelyan (w)... I have their world states all set up in the Keep and waiting I'm a freak, haha, I'll probably not ever role all of them, but I like making imagination characters that will make x decision that I wouldn't usually make! I also like coming up with characters-- names, looks, personality and backstory And maybe I'd make more progress if fricking Ithilia didn't have me constantly replaying her because of some bald elf!!! I have characters ready to role that won't be friends with Solas, but only my crap play through where I don't care about my character at all will I have a character punch Solas!

I really, really like that song and video. And I would be all over an ending where we turn the Dread Wolf, only to make a deadly enemy out of another close companion. I've wondered if that's what will happen should we successfully redeem Solas, especially if he's redeemed before going through with his plan (Because let's be real, everything points to the Veil coming down one way or another - if Solas doesn't do it, someone else will.) Mythal's a possibility, if the theories that she knows about and is happily enabling Solas' plan are true. But even if they're not, Solas does have an entire organization following him. Someone's going to try to carry on his work if he steps down. Maybe even get revenge on Solas himself, depending on how betrayed they feel. Mwa ha ha ha. In other news, someone I follow on Tumblr posted this as their theory for DA4: I looked up the lyrics so I could have an easier time knowing what's being sung about.
I get a little bit Genghis Khan I don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me I get a little bit Genghis Khan Don't want you to get it on With nobody else but me With nobody else but me
Ouch.
Well I think the video more so than the lyrics were what they were getting at. Or maybe they rationalized Solas' "girl" in this situation as being the Evanuris/old world. Or maybe they just thought DA4 would be full of sweet dance numbers.

Does anyone happen to have a screenshot of Solas taking a Lavellan's hand to close the first rift in Inquisition? I'm trying to do something and all I can find is a standard human male Inquisitor and Solas one... Edit: Wow, look what I found while flipping through devianart! Lavellan cosplay and some digital work
