With Viv I have feelings like she doesn't really need to be in the game at all. Solas obviously, because it's all because of him. Dorian because Cory and Tevinter Magisters. Cassandra, because of all that shiii going on. Varric... how could he miss it? But Vivienne, I think I never brought her with me anywhere. Bah, I didn't even have her till wicked eyes and wicked hearts. I got to say, I'm playing again... but I can't stop myself from going on Solas >.> think I should have made Qunari this time @edit solas tax /o/

javeart hahahahhahahahhaa. She never liked me enough to even ask. I checked back every other round of companions. She'd sneer at me, there would be no dialogue options, I'd leave. I REALLY hit bottom after allying the mages and telling her the Dalish way of handling mages was the right way. She REALLY didn't like that and tried to cut me down to size, and I was only irritated that I didn't have the option to cut her back. We just get to stare at her stupidly and make her feel like she won the argument. WHATEVER. I know I'm right. So, ya, unless I'd gotten those tomes for her, she was never going to give me anything else. But she didn't even trust me to help her lover. After base game, the only thing she had to say was that I'd obviously helped Leliana get the Sunburst throne. And she was very "politcally nice" during our spa scene in Trespasser, very keeping up appearances. No? So does that mean that she asks me because she doesn't hate me that much after all? It feels a miss oportunity anyway, because Kirby is so witty and funny, I'm sure we could have gotten great rivalry dialogues with Vivienne. I loved arguing with Sten, I'm sure a orlesian version of it would have been cool

Where you could argue with a companion, vehemently, and guess what...they didn't become a drop down drunk like Cassdandra and you STILL got all their content. I also enjoyed "arguing" with Sten, especially as a female mage, but he LIKED to argue so that would actually get me approval points.

I really don't mind so much not being able to talk to companions who don't like you or not getting their quests. I mean, I personally avoid talking to people I don't like and I wouldn't ask them for help. It feels more realistic to me.

You can say that about most companions. We really didn't need Sera or Blackwall. I would say Iron Bull too but he does at least give you Qunari spy reports. I feel that they wanted to conflate the number of companions so they can get to twelve people for the Quizz's inner circle just to make them appear more like Jesus. Incidentally that led to some shitty companions. On the topic of Vivi, honestly, after my first play through I never recruited Vivi again. I usually ignore the guy at the market, but on my Revas's playthrough she went, told Vivi to kill the duke guy and then asked about her feeling on the mage rebellion. After she made it clear she didn't support it, Revas shut her offer to join down. I never got the furniture scene since after Skyhold, I knew Vivi hated me so I didn't talk to her, but after I saw that on youtube I made it that Vivi is officially an un-recruitable companions in my playthroughs. I will not stand by and have my character castrated just to make another one look superior. I won't have any of that bullshit. She and Sera don't really get recruited, so only Blackwall hates my Revas, but he's not a big loss. Revs is the first playthrough where I haven't gotten the revelation scene with Blackwall in jail. He didn't like her enough. Oh well, nothing really valuable was lost.

I do like that the writers took care to not just make low approval companions spit insults at you and actually have them at their most honest. Solas is similar, to the point where he LITERALLY tells the Inquisitor his exact plan when he doesn't like them and they just don't realize it. I also agree with what was said above. I think this game in particular would have benefited from some version of a friend/rival system. More than DA2, even. Solas would have been great with that.

I don't know, but I honestly find her low approval dialogue somewhat lacking... Solas low approval dialogue for me is miles better... And, yes, Solas with a rivalry system what have been great... Really, I think that if for some reason I'd not have liked Solas at first, the moment I'd have heard him sniding at me like that I'd fall in love just the same now I kind of want to see what that rivalmance would have looked like . edit: though the truth is that Solas doesn't look like the rivalmancer type at all, does he?

^ Yeah, I think Solas is world-weary enough that he wouldn't put up with something like a rivalmance. Someone he once felt very close to betrayed him long ago, and partly because of that, I can't see him taking up with someone in a love/hate sort of relationship. He already has huge trust issues, and I can't imagine a relationship like that being particularly conducive to nurturing trust.

ladyiolanthe, bringing here the topic of tranquility as a posible fate for Solas. Never ocurred to me that tranquility could be the "solution" to the threat and the idea completely breaks my heart now, I'm picturing it and it would be worse than death indeed... So, yes, thanks for the mental image

So, yes, thanks for the mental image I wonder if tranquility would work on him. He's more powerful and more connected with the Fade even without the Veil down yet than anyone else in Thedas (as far as we know). Maybe it just can't be done? Unless beating him involves weakening him severely first, which now that I think about it, I imagine it has to. How else will the protagonists ever stand a chance against him?

Sorry javeart! I'm programmed to expect non-happy endings from my DA playthroughs, so I seem to be able to imagine all too easily non-happy ways for Solas' story to end! ;_;

And in a worldstate where you want Solas gone, that seems like a bad idea since we now know tranquility can be reversed.

Yeah probably, I remember he was really powerful and couldn't control his magic but maybe there's a way he overcame all 3 of the outcomes and is now the only other guy who can help us find Solas in the fade, being somniari himself and all ^^

I think it would be disgusting if they had tranquility be an option and I would think less of the writers for putting in something that grotesque.
Also, while Weekes writes sad things I don't really see where people keep getting this kind of pointlessly wangsty stuff. He did say Solas romance could be seen as hopeful. I don't think he is a complete liar.

Feynriel with a 'hitch hiker' Tevinter : He found himself a fade buddy Tranquil : He got reversed somehow by a spirit that later became his friend. .. wasn't the tranquils in redcliffe got reversed too by being touched by a demon or something? They regain part of themselves back only to be made into an occulara >_< urk (or something along those lines. Been a while since redcliffe)

I don't think he is a complete liar. If it's possible to tranquilize Solas, I have a strong feeling it'll be an option. In multiple instances we got to choose to tranquilize someone in DAI. Add that with the fact that some players DESPISE Solas (or even if they don't, some people just want to play jerk protagonists and that's always an option), and I think there will most likely be a choice to make him suffer in such a way. It's just another RP choice.

They regain part of themselves back only to be made into an occulara >_< urk (or something along those lines. Been a while since redcliffe) Hahaha there you go! It's at least possible, and he was a kid back then he might have grown into some badass powers! (and finally catch Solas, who's just being annoying playing hide and seek Lavellan's dreams) lol

Certainly not one I'd want to choose, though. Like I said in the twitter thread, for Solas that would be a terribly cruel fate, infinitely worse than death.

It's just another RP choice. They would have to devote more time to it than they would some random guy like Feynriel. I really don't want to spend time on that as a plot point and it doesn't even make sense since tranquilty can be cured. What is to prevent one of his spirit buddies from reversing it. And it doesn't matter if people hate him, plenty of people hated Morrigan and Alistair and you don't get to torture them. You don't even get to treat Cory that way.
