What I find peculiar is the Dirthamen statue gushing blood from being stabbed in the back when you visit Flemeth in the Fade. Er? I always thought that was representative of Mythal being stabbed in the back. It's a hooded figure with a sword in its back, blood running everywhere. What makes you think it's Dirthamen? Just curious. It's mentioned on the Wiki and Dirthamen is known for his hooded statue. If I were to guess, I would say he's the back-stabber of Mythal. She claims betrayal when she talks to the Inquisitor and is standing below his bloody statue.

Just wanted to say hi to the Solas thread. I can't decide if I love or hate Solas....sometimes it's both in the same game.

I miss so much good lore in my rush to completion. Have to remember to truly read and look around my next playthrough, instead of speeding through everything. There have been so many hints dropped concerning Solas.

I'm still holding out hope for a happy ending. And if that doesn't happen I shall hide in my headcannon, where everything is sunny. It seems to me that Solas - Lavellan romance is a lot like Romeo and Juliet. Very romantic and all but tragic.

Given this: I now see this idea as having a bit more credence than I did before. I still think Solas wants the ends he wants of his own free will, but I dunno. Maybe this will come into play that if/once his desires start deviating from his current goals. And then he'll find he can't stop. Or perhaps he won't even realize that he can't stop, it will be that convoluted. Like the horror movie the Mirror or something. It could be interesting drama. And sad, especially considering its clear he cared for Mythal. Off the top of my head, the one main problem with it is he seemingly zaps Mythal at the end of Inquisition. According to Flemeth in DA2, however, there's more than one Flemythal floating around, or it's possible there's more than one Flemythal floating around... so perhaps he knew that and just zapped a copy for a power boost? All very iffy, I know, but perhaps a possibility considering how Solas describes a geas. (Well-quoted, by the way) Solas absorbed Mythal's power, not whatever remains of Mythal's soul. So Mythal the Evanuris-turned-wisp is still around, she just gave her power to Solas. I suspect Morrigan will be the next host for Mythal the Evanuris-turned-wisp.

I'm like, can I read into this, or is this just level design putting assets here and there?? I admit, I look at everything, especially statues and paintings. This was how I deduced that Fen'Harel was Mythal's General or protector in my second play through. There's a particular painting in Redcliffe Castle as you're going down a staircase. I spent easily ten minutes standing in front of it and deciphering it. I think statues and paintings very often drop hints to us, especially in their placement.

There have been so many hints dropped concerning Solas. I started a new DAO playthrough and I think Eleni Zinovia spoke of Solas as well as Sandal in DA2. Eleni Zinovia: "Weep not for me, child. Stone they made me and stone I am, eternal and unfeeling. And I shall endure 'til the Maker returns to light their fires again" (Solas says tearing down the Veil will make the world "burn" in the raw chaos and he is indirectly the Maker since the Chantry says the Maker made the Veil) Sandal: "One day the magic will come back - all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see" (this one speaks for itself lol)

It is indeed! :'( I might just have to do like I do with ME3, play up to a certain point and then *insertrainbowsunshineglitter* headcannon the rest. After I finish a full playthrough, I'm perfectly happy finishing it in my mind for the rest of my games.

It might be possible that Andraste (who was very likely a mage and a Dreamer) got in touch with something in the Fade that she labelled the Maker. What if that something was Solas ? He does mention that he "laid in dark and dreaming sleep while countless wars and ages passed". So he was asleep but he was dreaming and could very well have communicated with other Dreamers who could find him.

LOL yeah I edited that part because I realized that Solas was sort of the Maker due to creating the Veil.

There is something that is bugging me though and that is Solas' viewpoint towards the Maker.
Here in this banter with Cassandra (and there is another), he seems open to the idea of the existence of the Maker:-
Yet in his disapproval conversation (some of which were cut off), he seems to despise the idea of the Maker, stating that it is better to believe and have faith in concepts that are real such as family, love, Inquisition instead of something unproven or unknown or probably false like the Maker:- https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/4vrjpi/spoilers_all_solas_disapproval_conversation_that/
So is Solas simply pretending about the Maker in front of Cassandra (knowing his status as an Elven apostate) and being more up front with his actual opinion with the Inquisitor ? Or is it something else ?

He does mention that he "laid in dark and dreaming sleep while countless wars and ages passed". So he was asleep but he was dreaming and could very well have communicated with other Dreamers who could find him. Gosh, I never connected the dots that Andraste was a dreamer. The Tevinters are right about Andraste being a mage! I'm officially converting. All hail the Dark Divine! The notion that a mundane (World of Thedas calls non-magical people as mundanes, that's how they describe the Soporati class in Tevinter) can somehow get in contact with a being that is powerful and ancient through her dreams, visions and songs is highly unlikely. Remember that it was Andraste who sang and hoped for her people's deliverance and the Maker replied, not the other way around. If the Maker simply approached Andraste all by himself and gave her vision, it makes some sense for her to be mundane (Drakon obtained a vision which ultimately resulted in the mainstream Andrastian Chantry of the South today and Leliana supposedly had a vision as well, neither of them sang and hoped for deliverance). My point is that to contact and remain in contact, eventually becoming attached to a powerful and ancient being in the Fade (she was reputedly his bride), requires one to have more than just faith, song and hope.

He also seems to lie sometimes, or at least omit in such a way that what he allows others to believe, is a lie. I want to know more, I want to know the "ending" of all of this, so we can understand Solas better.

Maybe he realizes he is the Maker the Chantry speaks of and both likes and hates himself at the same time. Or perhaps it's just that different people wrote those bits. I know some of the banter was written by people other than Weekes. Other guesses? There was an option to have Cole kill the Templar and turn against you during the Cory fight and the banter can still be heard in the game where Cole talks about killing him.

Logged in over at RDF--thinking about deleting my account--only to discover that Autumn Witch added an "Elvhen" title just because I sorta requested it. Now I can't just leave. Just have a membership here and at RDF. Its no big deal really.

Wooooaaahh, this thread popped up fast! Glad to see several fans made it here from the sinking ship! Since this is the only elf related thread for now, I'd like to comment about something interesting I came across. There was an article about tetrachromacy where a person is born with four types of color receptors instead of three. It's rare and those who have it see the world in a far wider range of colors that would look monotone to us. Their vision functions a bit better in low light as well. The downside is that places like grocery stores or malls are overwhelming and draining. I mention it because it reminded me of the crossroads where only elves could see color while any other race saw gray. There's also the lore that establishes elves as having superior night vision that motivated Loghain to employ city elves because of their night vision. While the description of Briala's eyes as being like cat's eyes would make me think that elves have a tapetum lucidium in the back of their eye and not necessarily being any different from a trichromatic, the crossroads bring about questions as to how do elves perceive the colors around them.

That's really interesting. This might be from playing elves in D&D but I've always thought it was just a unique trait/perk for elves and a few other fantasy races and never gave it much thought. I have heard of elves having "cat eye abilities." I don't have anything substantial to add. (Any ideas from sciencey people?) I'd be interested in learning about real-world explanations for better elf vision. (Like how real-world zombies would have an enhanced rabies virus.) On a related note, I recently watched this video on mantis shrimp.

On a related note, I recently watched this video on mantis shrimp. You know how if you look at a cat in the dark and you see just two bright circles and nearly scream because it's startlingly freaky? I remember doing a dissection on a cow eye and there was a membrane inside the back of it that looked like an opalescent clam shell. That's the tapetum lucidium that takes any low light and reflects it to enhance vision in the dark. It's basically a long winded version of saying that it's night vision goggles. Anyway, World of Thedas mentioned (I think) that Briala's eyes shined in the dark like cat eyes. But the crossroads, now there was a moment that made me wonder about elven artists and what they see.
