Fellow lurker from the old forums... just wanted to say hi and thank you for having a place we can share! Btw, where do the theories about Solas being Mythal's protector/guardian specifically come from? Just curious. There's a fair bit of evidence that Fen'Harel was considered this (codex entries, his statue in her temple...) Plus, there's a cryptic line by Cole that could refer to Solas removing his own vallaslin.

Here is a codex that says that, in the Deep Roads, Fen'Harel was beside Mythal "not in a place of honor, but guarding, attending." Torn Notebook in Deep Roads, Section 1We see his statue alongside her frequently, at the end of the main game and in the aforementioned section of the Deep Roads. Edit: Fixed broken link.

I felt Morrigan's reaction to the statue of Fen'Harel in Mythal's temple was the start of the writers telling us "think! Something's not what it seems to be!" then Abelas really seals the deal when he corrects Morrigan's findings about the Dread Wolf killing Mythal.

He is a dreamer and in some of the old codex, it says he could walk between her people and the Forgotten Ones w/o fear. Thanks for looking that up Nimlowyn.

Based on Cole's cryptic words, I think the most popular theory is she "created" Solas from a spirit of Wisdom and bound him to her, though he removed her slave markings, he might still be bound. His tone when you ask him to drink from the Well does imply something deeper between them. In Trespasser the Inquisitor even questions their relationship.

I've only played through it once so far (and I *really* wanted to push the story forward) so I think I missed that?

Well, leaders always need bodyguards because people always want to kill the person in charge. With that in mind Solas was a TERRIBLE Secret Service agent. I wonder how it was that Mythal was murdered while he was on watch. Did something distract him from his duty? Did Andruil have him tied up or something? Was he taking a nap? OMG. You put two and two together for me that never struck me until this very moment. Solas FAILED Mythal. Okay okay y'all probably caught onto this forever ago but for me right now I'm like:

She than asks what their connection was to each other if Mythal knew what to say. It's been almost a year, I would need to replay it again lol

At that point he'd have removed his own vallaslin and may no longer have been her guardian/bodyguard/servant. He was leading a slave rebellion at the time.

Sometimes I wonder if it was a good idea that we knew but our Inquisitors didn't know the truth about Solas lol

After the Inquisitor drinks from the Well of Sorrows, Solas asks the Inquisitor what she will do with the power of the Well once Corypheus is dead. If the Inquisitor says she will rely on those she trusts, Solas will slightly disapprove and say that it's a mistake.
"Because while one selfless man may walk away from the lure of power's corruption... no group has ever done so." If the Inquisitor goes on to say that she trusts her friends, Solas will slightly disapprove again, and say, "I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory."
I wonder if he could be talking about one of the Evanuris that he trusted, who ultimately betrayed him. Related to Mythal's murder, possibly? I think he's saying that he ended up trusting his friend(s) with his power or a position of power (i.e. guarding Mythal?) and regretted it so much that after thousands of years, he can still remember her with enough detail to carve her face. Yikes.
This is just a theory. I could be totally way of base. Just throwing out ideas...

I'm like, can I read into this, or is this just level design putting assets here and there?? They say dreams can be metaphorical so if the Fade is where we go when we dream, then perhaps that statue is metaphorically implying betrayal "stabbed in the back" I also found Cole talking about the floating rocks remembering being higher before "it" woke up and everything fell was a nice little foreshadowing of what we discover in Trespasser. Also correct me if I'm wrong but someone said it was hinted Solas created the Veil at Skyhold? I wonder if that's the Undercroft. Harriet mentions it was made for something big.

What I find peculiar is the Dirthamen statue gushing blood from being stabbed in the back when you visit Flemeth in the Fade. Er? I always thought that was representative of Mythal being stabbed in the back. It's a hooded figure with a sword in its back, blood running everywhere. What makes you think it's Dirthamen? Just curious.
