Really??? OMG that's ME! I never understood why I saw things like that! It makes sense now! That's neat! I know that Concetta Antico was the artist they interviewed about what it's like to live with that kind of vision.

I know that Concetta Antico was the artist they interviewed about what it's like to live with that kind of vision. It's painful through. For me at least. I get a lot of migraines when I'm at stores or in the sun without sunglasses, but I see colors in such an intense way, I guess maybe that's when I'm an artist. I love expressing what I see on paper and want to share it with others. Edit: Apparently in an article I just looked up, a woman did the same thing and yes we both see the colors exactly as she painted them!

Good point! What are they actually seeing while they paint? Are there hidden messages around Thedas that only elves can see? That would be an interesting narrative tool. And that's amazing Ellie! I have really poor vision so I can barely imagine what it's like to have 20/20 vision let alone seeing extra colors. (Migraines are no fun though )

I'm sorry you're stuck with having so many migraines, Ellie. Migraines suck big time chicken eggs.

I'm sorry you're stuck with having so many migraines, Ellie. Migraines suck big time chicken eggs. Aww thanks! Yeah I've been to the doctor's and I'm very healthy. I have a minor iron deficiency but nothing serious (more white than red blood cells). My eye doctor said my eyes are so healthy it means I have a strong heart so the migraines (especially in the Summer) really do seem connected to my vision. It got worse when I got my glasses strengthened and saw everything with complete clarity. I also dream in bright and vivid colors, can read in dreams and talk with others as if they were real, so maybe I'm just one big unnatural mess of a person lol and as a child people said my eyes were unnaturally large... hey I'm a real life elf LOL j/k As for Sera yeah I have to agree, her color choice is painful on the eyes lol but she's the only elf I can't dress in "elfy" colors. They don't work for her. I always have Solas in rich creams, earthy browns and soft greens and he looks amazing!

That's really interesting. This might be from playing elves in D&D but I've always thought it was just a unique trait/perk for elves and a few other fantasy races and never gave it much thought. I have heard of elves having "cat eye abilities." I don't have anything substantial to add. (Any ideas from sciencey people?) I'd be interested in learning about real-world explanations for better elf vision. (Like how real-world zombies would have an enhanced rabies virus.) Let me lay out the biological differences between the different Theodosian races. Note that some of these criteria are averages and aggregates, not absolutes (the difference between the sexes of the races, heights and weights). Elf - Elves have a slender, lithe, lean and willowy body type.
- Elven males are taller and don't have the same reproductive organs as Elven females and other than that there is not much different between the sexes.
- Elves are inherently attuned to the Fade (Sera is an example of this). One possible explanation for this is that the Elves are descended from the spirits of the Fade and as such are innately attuned to it.
- Elves have large eyes (World of Thedas Volume 1 states that Elves have large eyes) and also have tapetum lucidum and as a result can see better in the dark than Humans.
- Elves have shaped ears that grant them exceptional hearing.
- Elves lack of body hair except on the pubic region (Sera-Lavellan romance confirms that Theodosian Elves have pubic hair).
- Elves have a recessive set of genes in that when a Human mates with an Elf, the resulting offspring will always be Human. If an Elf mates with a Dwarf, the resulting offspring will look like a Dwarf.
Dwarf
- Dwarves have a short, strong, stout and stocky body type, they are the shortest playable race in Thedas.
- Dwarf males and Dwarf females both have body hair and both can grow facial hair. The notable difference between Dwarf males and Dwarf females is that Dwarf males are taller and stockier than Dwarf females.
- Dwarf can naturally resist magic and some of them have something called "Stone-sense", which refers to their ability to navigate underground terrain without getting lost. However, recently, the stone-sense as well their magical resistance can be attributed to their relationship and connection to the Titans.
- Dwarves have a very hardy constitution and as a result, it is rare to hear or see Dwarves getting sick. The fully potential of Dwarven fertility is unknown because underground Dwarf live in close proximity to the Darkspawn and the Taint which hinders reproduction and no reliable record is found regarding Dwarves living on the surface.
- Dwarves can also see really well in the dark, which is an ability they share with the Elves.
- If a Dwarf and a Human mates, the resulting offspring will be a Half-Dwarf, who will be shorter than Humans but taller than Dwarves. This is very rare and can be only really witnessed amongst Dwarves living on the surface of Thedas.
Human
- Humans are the average joes of Thedas. Height wise, they are far taller than Dwarves, slightly taller than Elves (though this does not necessarily apply to Ancient Elves) and shorter than Qunari. In terms of musculature, Humans are more muscular than Elves but less muscular than Dwarves and Qunari (Dragon Age wiki & Dragon Age Inquisition).
- Humans only exceptional ability is the fact that we can fuck either Elves or Dwarves and the resulting offspring will always be Human (at least in appearance). It is unknown what the result of a Human - Qunari offspring would be. Humans do not possess superior eyesight or superior hearing or inherent magic resistance or inherent affinity for the Fade or some connection to Dragons. Like I said, Humans = average joes that can fuck a lot (Dragon Age wiki & Dragon Age Inquisition).
- Human males are taller and more muscular than Human females. Human males can grow facial hair. Both Human males and Human females have body hair.
Qunari
- Qunari are taller and considered to be more physically robust than humans. They have skin of varying metallic colors (such as gold, bronze, and silver), white hair, pointed ears, and vivid eyes with colors like violet, red, silver, or yellow.
- Most Qunari have horns. The horn itself has no nerve endings and can be painlessly removed much like human nails or hair; however, they can still become irritated, thus the Qunari have developed several types of balms. Once a horn is cut off, it will not grow back. Hornlessness is a rare genetic variation in Qunari, akin to red hair in humans.

ellieI... think you would qualify as an elfy elf! That's awesome what you have! GarnetThe scary thing is, if Sera has tetrachromacy, that's probably exactly what she sees! Maybe that's the point? Sera's picking the most obnoxious colors imaginable just to make it harder for elves to want to stare at her! Darn, Sera is a freaking genius!

@bayonet Hipshot What does that mean for Fenris? Is it just me or does he seem a bit too tall to be a typical elf? He seems more like Solas in height when standing next to Hawke. I think she even has to get on the tip of her toes to kiss him.

I think she even has to get on the tip of her toes to kiss him. I did say matters regarding height is an aggregate / average. Fenris is not an average elf. Besides, Fenris has been altered by magic and lyrium. I am not saying that such alterations can necessarily change his height but in X-Men comics, Wolverine did change a lot when he was injected by Adamantium and what was done to Leto / Fenris by Danarius is a lot like what Stryker did to Logan.

Yeah I did see the similarity there. I just always found it odd that his height was affected too. I know his hair was most likely red like his sister before that, sort of like Rogue. I still find Fenris the least elf-like. Even Sera who wants to be unrelated to them is still more elf than him. Not sure why I feel that way. Maybe the lyrium really did more to him than what I thought. With Solas I knew something was odd too but once I saw Abelas then I started to guess he was more than your average elf and bald seemed to be the elf way in the ancient times!

About whether or not the artwork means anything (from a few pages back): I think it's better to take the 'reused art asset' view. One of the devs (possibly Weekes?) said that the huge number of wolf statues didn't mean anything - they were just filling space.
