I for one will welcome the (former)Inquisitor back with open arms, should Bioware choose to utilize them as our next player character again. I swear it's not just the romance/relationship w/Solas! I want to have a disabled character with an awesome magical prosthetic that we get to upgrade over the game. That just seems really cool to me. Okay, fair enough, I just want to play as Furiosa.

Bunny Noldo I think the voice actors cost significant portion of budget, even if they pale in comparison to advertising campaign. Yet I still can't find any genuine proof that having to choose between Inquisitor or new protagonist is better than having BOTH Inquisitor and new protagonist. I mean I really would like to play both of them in the same playthrough. You know what I don't want? Hawke like cameo. Our Lavellans are so different and I can't imagine how they could express that in set dialogue, without her sounding bland or saying nonsense (BUT YOU ARE A BLOOD MAGE HAWKE!). And our Inquisitors are so different, for example someone earlier this day said that their Lavellan is a 40 year old widow with children and my Lavellan is a virgin in her early 20. THIS. I want it. @dawnstone I already headcanon my Lavellan with awesome lyrium infused staff-hand. I really want protagonist with prosthetic as well.

I don't feel like my Inq's story is done, but I believe Bioware thinks it is. The final scene where she said "then we'll find people he doesn't know" implies to me though that our Inq will still be involved in the story, maybe just in the background. Or maybe a Hawke-like cameo. Although I doubt they'll do that again because so many people complained about it, I liked seeing my Hawke again! PS - No matter who we end up playing as, my poor Solas-loving elf better get some closure

I mean I really would like to play both of them in the same playthrough. In a soution I had in mind, it wouldn't have to be just one character. For example if you choose to play as a new character, Inqy automatically becomes an advisor or something, that would be playable only in certain scenes. Or maybe we could have two playable characters, Inqy and a new protagonist, and we would choose one of them to lead each mission etc. That would be cool. Oh yes, I really woudn't want Hawke like cameo as well. Lavellans can be quite different, and Inquisitors can be different race, class, etc. I would be really angry if they would do that.

On the cinematography of the kiss scene in trespasser when I tried it I was amused as my inquisitors massive armor shoulder pauldrons obscured most of her face.
On skyhold being the location where the veil was created, I think this was confirmed. Its name in ancient ancient Elvish is the place where the sky was held back, and the librarian spirit in trespasser has a memory of an ancient elf saying that the dread wolf held back the sky. Add that to the references in the lore to ancient elven rituals at and the power of magic in the stones of skyhold (and the like) and iirc also something about how the ground there was bloodsoaked once.. It definitely happened there.
On devs being :S over people bothering them about Solas, I dont think it was a general thing, I think they're in general really quite proud of what they did with Solas and how he was received. I think that reaction was limited to the stuff/times like when a few people kept harassing them on twitter asking about whether Solas and lavellan slept together or not as if that really matters and because they for some reason needed official confirmation that they did (not really for 'some reason'..they were transparently thirsty as all hell). The kind of behavior that most of us would eyeroll/cringe at. it is rude and creepy trying to get your personal sexual gratification out of a dev like that especially in a public sphere.

I'm not a writer, so I can't say this with any authority, but wouldn't any kind of good storytelling with complex characters be complicated to write? Before Solas was a romance, they had already decided to make Solas a sympathetic character that the Inquisitor would get emotionally invested in, perhaps as a friend, a mentor or a rival. So whether or not there is a romance to consider, DA4 would still have to resolve the theme of friendship/betrayal/redemption, which means the Inquisitor still has to return, romance or no. (Edit: Oops, how did that happen? I was quoting Stick in the Mud's post on the complication of adding the romance, here: "I do not envy Weekes' responsibility to balance our expectations with what the company's plans have been for the franchise all along and his own narrative goals. Solas is one of the most important characters we have met. Making him a romance option was potentially a bad idea in the long run. It makes everything more complicated...unless from the moment Weekes wrote the romance he had planned to leave Lavellan hanging forever because it is so wonderfully tragic.")

Still I hope PW isn't headdesking himself right now lol, but I highly doubt it. Hiighly doubt it. I'm overly compassionate because I keep putting myself into his shoes and it feels SO APPALING to think about the amount of responsability right now, but I'm not him so I can't know. I don't have his mind, his past, his adulthood nor his legos. If there's something i haven't learnt from all my video game past, it is "don't trust the man" *glares at soasl*LOL If only we had his legos...all would be made clear. I trust Weekes and the other writers to present us with another great Dragon Age game, but I don't trust them to give Solavellan resolution. The romance was an unexpected divergence from the plan. Dragon Age is David Gaider's baby. He had some sort of plan for where this all was heading. Weekes came up with the Solas romance alone and managed to to get it added in. Either the Solas romance will become completely irrelevant in the future, or the plan is going to have to change to accommodate the romance. I wonder if they will be willing to change the plan for the Solasmancers' sake given that they are a minority. The future of the Dragon Age universe isn't set in stone, but they might have had the general fate of major players worked out a long time ago (including the Inquisitor and Solas). It might be way too much trouble to make allowances for a relatively rare world state. I don't think Weekes intended to leave people eternally disgruntled over the Solasmance (they already went through that with Thane), but the company and the narrative necessities of the next game(s) may force that outcome. I too hope he isn't headdesking. I expect much hope and dread until we hear more about the next game. Team Optimism? Would you consider a sad ending to the romance as resolution for Solavellan, out of curiosity? Also your post (unexpected divergence from the plan) reminded me of the words of the ardent blossom faerie no accounting for whimsy! I keep mentioning the Solasmance elf I'm working on, and I posted her pics elsewhere and thought I'd share here. Anise Levellan; elven mage. I haven't settled on an age yet, but minimum is 40. A widower with two grown children; she has led an interesting life. I intend to tie her to events from Origins, DA2, and she's been to at least 2 Arlathvhens. May even make her connected to Briala in some way. (obviously all head cannon.) I'm polishing her special for a Solasmance as I've never successfully had one. I have tried before and couldn't handle how confused that character was. I had never played a Dalish and just had no clue how to be one; so I started my research by playing a Dalish in Origins. She will see Solas as more of a colleague with a specialt, putting them on even footing....rather than "oooo, he's so wise" *bats lashes* that I've seen some others describe. She'll take the news about the tattoos in stride, and definitely not remove the vallaslin that has been part of her identity for over 20 years. Will most likely ally with the mages, drink from the Well, and disband regardless of who is Divine. Depending on how angry she is at Solas after the reveal, I do not know if she will redeem or hunt him down (i'm hoping for redeem, though). I've pondered remaking her to have Mythal's tattoo but I also like the God of Secrets. Oddly enough, she may actually become friends with Vivienne due to respect for a fellow scrabbling survivor; a first for me. I tried to make her age subtle but present; sunken cheeks, mild wrinkling, thinner lips, graying hair. What do you think? Shaping up to be worthy of Solavellan hell? I really like this concept phoray thankyou for sharing

If sacrificing a few hundred was what was needed to power the ritual required to seal away the false gods and thereby saving hundreds of thousands, he'd do it. The thing with Solas is that he has these plans and goals that are for the greater good (he hopes) but that have horrible costs attached that he then feels intense regret and sadness over. I think some but not all of the evanuris were related, probably? Their origins as he tells us were those who became generals in a war before being respected leaders before ascending to pharaoh-like status. Some familial relationships predated the war; some may have grown from it (marriage of mythal and elgarnan?) and some were later ascribed in dalish legend. Maybe

I think he used his orb and then fallen asleep due to being exhausted. If his first idea to bring down the Veil was getting to face by creating Anchor with the orb I'm sure he did the reverse before. I theorize that the ancient elven artifact that we activate during the DAI were used to repel the Fade too. Firstly I can't imagine Solas using life sacrifice in any kind of ritual (Flemythal was whole different story, and I don't believe her to be dead). Secondly the only way (as we know now) to utilize sacrifice is to resort to blood magic, and we know that he doesn't practice it. Solas The horrible cost of his actions was the destruction of Elvhenan. I can't just imagine that he approaches his freed slaves and says to them that they must sacrifice themselves to put up the Veil. The separation of Fade and reality looks like one of his quick reckless decisions and probably he pulled out by himself. I think they were like ancient greek or egyptian gods literally. I can see Elgar'nan and Mythal as god-kings just like Osiris and Isis with couple of children, the rest being noble heroes, viewed on par with other gods. So yes, they would be just like Dalish perceive them, but less benevolent goods, more powerful nobles constantly squabbling between themselves.

I don't think Solas realized that his people being destroyed was going to be the result of putting up the veil. Goes back to all of his plans blowing up in his face somehow. I do see him being able to convince some of the slaves he'd rescued/elves who helped him to 'sacrifice themselves for the greater good' though. Or maybe they volunteered, knowing what was at stake? Obviously things were not in a good place for any of them if something as huge and complicated as the veil was considered the only solutions to their problems.

Please excuse me while I escort myself out because i just cant bear to see "solas" and "plan" on the same line ever again anymore XD Haaa I'm so excited and it's not even anounced ! I agree I also hope no one at EA will interrupt the greeeet MAGICAL creative process #art #magic #wow I'm exciteeeeddd laughed way too hard thinking about Poké AgeTell us this story you have, TELL UUSS !!!!! I will, I will, I just need some time to write it down Changing the topic a bit, I was wondering, do you know any music similar to The Dread Wolf / Lost Elf Theme? It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard And combined with Solas' story, it just pure magic.. I love the version with the piano, as well as the Trespasser one. The only piece of music that I know that is so similar to it is The Wuthering Heights soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Maybe you know some similar music? That Trespasser BWOWN-sound (what's the sound really called though?) is pure gold. Makes the hair on my arms stand on edge every.single.time ^^ I just stop everything I'm doing and let the feeling of heartbreak and angst wash over me ;P
