The Blanketfort (crying and throwing up) - The Official Solas Thread [Spoilers]

It will be fascinating to discover how he views the new set of companions. I assume they are going to give us the opportunity to discuss them with him. I think he might be prickly concerning Emmrich but even sympathetic towards Lucanis bearing in mind recent revelations about him. As for the others, we shall see, but if he is aware of Davrin's attitude towards his past actions, then I assume he is likely to approve of him. I wonder if Solas likes griffons.

In Trespasser, when he mentions the old Dalish curse "May the Dread Wolf take you", she can respond sadly: "And so he did". To this Solas says: "I did not. I would not lay with you under false pretenses." It would have been easy enough for him to reply "No, you took me", but he did not. He is saying that with each of them it was their own choice. Then Lavellan says: "But you lied to me. I loved you. Do you think I would not have understood?" To which Solas looks ashamed for a moment and expresses sorrow. So, he seems to acknowledge that there was deception and that was unworthy of him, of her.

The coercion that you speak of, if it occurs at all is in that initial scene in the Fade where you can overcome his reluctance. I think, though, that was more the true Solas trying to act honourably because he knew he was living a lie, that she thought he was just a humble apostate, and that his purpose in being there was entirely to do with his own plans. However, it was observing her spirit that made him fall in love with her. He admires the spirit of the Inquisitor even if there is no romance involved but with Lavellan there is something more because he knows she loves him. What is so captivating about that is that she doesn't love him because he is an all powerful being out of fear or awe or because she is attracted by such a person but she loves him for himself, as a wise and humble mentor, which is what he always wanted to be. For a short time, he can forget his greater purpose and just be himself, which is not Fen'Harel. That is why we get the white wolf tarot.

So, do not be afarid, there was nothing abusive on the part of Lavellan in encouraging the romance and in thinking this through I realise that Solas didn't mean to hurt her, as Weakes always maintained.  They said they were crying as they wrote that scene when Solas broke up with her, when he almost did tell her the truth but stopped himself because he had to remain committed to his greater purpose (as he saw it) and that could not involve her. That is because Weakes knew the underlying sentiments involved and that Solas really did love her because she loved HIM.

Strangely enough, I never realised up to now how tragic their love story is and how much Solas sacrificed in relinquishing her. I also realise how instinctively she knew this about him, which is why she wouldn't give up on him and why she is determined to "save him from himself" because she knows the ruthless, callous and harsh Fen'Harel isn't the true Solas, he really is the wise, humble and loving spirit she knows him to be.
