Um... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a mission in the game that explains basically that Dad Ryder and the "benefactor", as well as, other people were concerned about a potential threat from the reapers and that Shepard's claims may be true, basically came up with the "AI" to be a way to escape it and let the different races live on in Andromeda and start a new life? It wasn't just, "Cause Science!" or "Idk" But I'm sure science and discovery also played into it. "F*ck 99% of the galaxy being unexplored, let's go to Andromeda!" I bet you are pissed at Elon too for wanting to go to Mars instead of the depth of our oceans, I mean that's unexplored as well.

I'm not sure I ever read this thread before. I was looking at the complaint about "my parents are dead" and really not sure who it's referring to. The Ryder Twins? For one thing, to their knowledge, only one of their parents were dead. That had little to do with why they left. Alec Ryder screwed up his career with the Alliance by working on illegal artificial intelligence. This, in turn, screwed up the careers of Scott and Sara. (Ask Ashley Williams about how accurate that can be TWO GENERATIONS LATER.) Now, if you want to argue that Alec Ryder in no way, shape or form had the technological background to create artificial intelligence, I'm there with you. It only works if he used the work of a prior project, like the one Kahlee Sanders had worked on in ME: Revelation (Eliza, I think) or the "rogue VI" on Luna. Otherwise, it makes zero sense. As for those claiming ME2 took place in 2184, that's wrong. It was very definitely 2185, 2 years after Shepard died. 2185 is also the year when the Andromeda Initiate launched. By this time, certain powerful people did believe the Reaper threat might be real, though that was not the original reason behind it being formed. Certain aspects of the AI were altered by the Mysterious Benefactor. However, since this was a plot meant to be developed over, at minimum, two games - and we're probably not getting more MEA - this is likely to remain unresolved. I'm not sure I remember that specific one but the complaint seemed to be more generally about all the answers you get to that question. They didn't come across as intrepid explorers or scientists there for the discovery, it was a mixed bag of various I had nothing better to dos. I kind of get the I'm running from X ones, its possible you'd figure there is no where in the known galaxy to hide, but most of the rest were just lame. That being said it kind of explains why they were total idiots who couldn't deal with or plan for any setbacks when they arrived. They weren't explorers it was a grab bag of losers.

Which makes you wonder how they were chosen. I mean, just because you want to go doesn't mean you're qualified. This is why I think the bigger failure is that BioWare is likely not going to continue and give us explanations that might have been forthcoming.

Thing is, everyone on the expedition was a specialist of some sort, and according to Lexi, went through screening prior to the Initiative's departure. Extended cryo screwed a lot of them up. To think that Javik managed to sit in his little freezer for thousands of years and turn out relatively OK.

Give how ridiculously terrible they seem to be at everything they do I'm guessing they picked people with specialties that aren't very useful for colonization. Or only the worst specialist in the field could be convinced to go. While Frank would be good at the job people would ask questions and this is for unknown reasons a totally secret project. Lets get Addison, no one will give a crap that she disappeared.

Or only the worst specialist in the field could be convinced to go. While Frank would be good at the job people would ask questions and this is for unknown reasons a totally secret project. Lets get Addison, no one will give a crap that she disappeared. I concur, to an extent, given that like 99% of people are still in cryo at the end of the game. So, let's look at Tann. He was originally DEPUTY ASSISTANT (not even the actual assistant, but someone trained well enough to stand in) for Revenue Management. I imagine he might have been very good with numbers and probably could have easily stepped into the role of Assistant for Revenue Management had that become necessary. Being good with finances does not make a person equipped to manage a colonization effort, much less one that came under siege. The real problem with him was that he was too stubborn to acknowledge that fact rather than appoint someone in his stead who was probably better suited (like Kesh, but his racism against the krogan prevented that). Sloane was not equipped to be anything more than security. Her anger issues made her a liability and, much like on Kadara, I imagine she would have become a tyrant over time. Addison, well, there's no real excuse other than that she panicked and was afraid if she rocked the boat any further that they'd literally sink. Spender? Someone should have shot him long ago but...see Addison for why she didn't do it. The reality is that there almost certainly qualified people, but they were either exiled for letting their emotions control their behavior or still in cryo. Also, if you staged a protest to get your mom unfrozen, you literally are incapable of understanding just how precarious your very existence is and how few resources are available. Those people should be banned from positions of power (assuming they were ever slated). Now, I don't think a chemist should have been made into a bartender, but I do believe that was just BioWare writers making fun of Dutch.

Regarding #8, the arks aren't traveling at subluminal speeds. They probably would have hit FTL before even reaching the galactic horizon, in which case they would have shot by any nearby reapers without being detected. Of course, this is putting aside the ridiculous vastness of space, where even a million reapers spread out a few AU apart would be a minute splotch in the area, in which case the chances of even getting near to one just shooting out into dark space would be pretty low. Also at the end of Ryder Family Secrets quest it is stated that the Andromeda Initiative left the Milky Way just as the Reapers were entering the Milky Way with them getting transmissions from Earth, Palavin, Liara (with dialogue that seems like it was just before the final push in ME3) and Alec Ryder records a comment something to effect "Looks like we got out just in time."

What I want to know is why don't people live in the twilight zone of Elaaden instead of the side where it's day time all the time? This would’ve been interesting, because the terminator would see wild weather patterns on a regular basis. Any settlement there would have to be seriously fortified to deal with the constant ever-present hurricanes. I’m not entirely clear on how Elaaden stays constantly lit all the time though, since it’s the moon of a gas giant. IIRC it's tidal locked to a gas giant and another moon.

I bet you are pissed at Elon too for wanting to go to Mars instead of the depth of our oceans, I mean that's unexplored as well. Apples and oranges. The hurdles involving creating a survivable environment on the ocean floor are different from traveling through space. Now if Musk wanted to skip Mars, the asteroid belt, and the outer planets and go straight to Alpha Centauri, then yeah, I'd think that was stupid. Really? Extreme cold, unbearable pressure, complete and total darkness, and isolation are all problems with starting an undersea settlement as well as space travel.

Actually, the Andromeda Initiative leaves almost a year before the Reapers invade. They leave in 2185 just before New Years, and ME3 begins in late September to early October 2186. Still cutting it close though.
