If you could buy your ideal game, what do you think it would be like? Considerations include the genre, the soundtrack, the visuals, the storytelling, the gameplay, etc.
I think mine would be something like:
Fantasy RPG. Ability to have long dialogue interactions with strong character work, as in Dragon Age: Origins. A world that isn't too 'dark' and gritty, like you see in The Witcher. More of a Tolkien style approach. Dark elements, sure, but also a lot of brightness. Day and night cycle, with weather that includes rain and snow sometimes. Planescape style ability to talk your way out of problems and minimize fighting.
Another option would be a proper, TNG style Star Trek RPG. Mostly revolving around life aboard the ship, rather than combat.

The thing I want the most is an RPG with a world as big and detailed as Morrowind's map (the original, not the ESO expansion), with enemy design and a combat system similar to that of Bloodborne. I don't really care about the setting too much as long as those boxes are ticked, but I am more partial to science fiction than fantasy despite enjoying both.
So I guess my dream game would be a scifi Elder Scrolls game with melee combat that's actually enjoyable, and enemies that are fun to fight.

For me a Space RPG Companions and character interactions like in bioware games Combat and exploration would be in spaceships. And your squad would be out there at your side in their own ships. A good bit of banter over the comms while out exploring space A nice big universe with different sectors to explore that each have a unique setting A great in depth story with choice and consequence Great hub worlds or space stations to explore, could have some third person sections for these. Lots of different types of aliens
Basically a Mass Effect meets Freelancer would be my dream game

A 'villain' action-RPG with some strategic elements like managing your lair/network of minions and a bunch of heroes with plot armor which keep trying to stop your plans. Basically a more serious Overlord with dialogue system and without navigate-a-bunch-of-chickenbrains minigame.

A high quality action-RPG (Witcher-esque) in the Shadowrun setting. Basically Cyberpunk 2077 (at least how I'm imagining it), with Shadowrun flavor. Same here, though I really want to see customization+character. Stepien said this a while back: ""...you will have the chance to create your character’s personality. This is very, very important. The style and mood and atmosphere of this world, what you do at the bar, what do you drink, how you react with other people, what dialogue you choose —all these things let us keep the Cyberpunk atmosphere all the time". Second would be Mass Effect version of Star Trek, along with non combat skills like biology, science, diplomacy, etc.

1. A very exotic and unusual setting that is rendered to artistic perfection, but not entirely realistic. Say, Assassin Creed’s Renaissance cities with a lot of their climbing etc mechanics 2. Main character fully customizable with the selection of at least 4 non-standard races, elemental, demonic, angelic, cybernetic, Qunari, twileks, turians, Andorians, etc - just not elves/Dwarves 3. Weapons and magic that are showy and cool, maybe like Asian anime or Andromeda or SW stuff 4. Small, plot and protagonist, related cast like in JE, kotor 2, ME2, DA2, Technomancer and Andromeda 5. Fewer but plot-important, long and involved playersexual romances like in ME2, DAO, Technomancer and DA2 6. Linear with hubs story progressing fast, with some interesting sidequests with a couple of choices, like in JE, kotor2 and DA2 7. Strong and interesting, action packed Companion missions like in Andromeda and ME2 8. The evolving plot with high drama and some lighter tongue-in-cheek writting at times, like in JE, DA2 and Andromeda 9. Moral choices or personality choices for the PC so s/he is as fun as renegade, paragon or Hawke, with cosmetic options unlocking for staying consistent, like tattoos, scars, outfits 10. Companion appearance customizations as rewards for boss fights or gifts like in Swtor 11. Very limited if any crafting, more like in DA2 and Andromeda 12. Good variety of difficulty levels 13. Fighting style that is fast and it is fun to build whatever you wish characters, like in DA2 or ME2/3 or Andromeda 14. A great MP and mobile app modules like in me3 and Andromeda (would have been in Andromeda) with preference to the objective-based, easy to pug modes with 12 to 20 min tops commitment per session, win or lose.

My ideal game would be :
1. a big open world RPG game like HZD Skyrim or TW3. 2. of course 4K graphics like HZD. 3. a female protagonist or at least the option female/male. 4. no loading screens. 5. no bugs or glitches. 6. good written characters. 7. i also want some romance with a little sex. 8. day and night cycles with rain and snow and sometimes storm. 9. and that my character could rest everywhere she wants and enjoy the scenery i miss that in a lot of games. 10. and last that i need to eat and drink and sleep.

1. A personal story instead of a heroic save the world/galaxy one
2. A customizable character with the game actually responding to your choice of gender or fantasy race
3. A unique setting (Morrowind or Mass Effect instead of typical fantasy) with unique races
4. Non combat options for many quests
5. Evil choices that make sense (not chaotic stupid)
I don't have much of a preference for turn based vs. real time with pause vs. action combat as long as whichever style it is it's done well, if that makes sense.

I forgot to add - story that ends in the game with strong and visible consequences to your actions, no TBC and no reversals in DLCs or immediately sequential games.

- RPG - Fantasy or Sci-Fi - Male/Female options - Multiple race options - Detailed character creator with body options - Interesting/varied dialogue options - Branching choices - Medium length with lots of replayability - Party-based game (3 or more) - Diverse set of companions and romances - Multiple resolutions for conflicts (not always just combat) - Decent graphics but doesn't have to be cutting edge - More linear than open world with some limited exploration - Cities and towns - Optional/removable/mortal companions - Varied endings that aren't trying too hard to worry about future games - Wide variety of skills/powers - Non-combat skills - Voiced NPCs - Protagonist can be either voiced or not - Unlimited inventory - Interesting side quests with multiple outcomes - Ability to be good/bad/anything in between

Story-rich RPG with a highly customizable protagonist and choices with consequences within the game itself (not just locked away for a sequel)
Ideally there is some sort of romantic element (not necessarily a full romance)
Multiple endings based on player choice: both good and bad
Lots of replayability
Non-violent outcomes for at least some choices.
Interesting NPCs with lots of dialogue, commentary and banter.
Setting doesn't matter: scifi, fantasy, real world, historical setting.

There is no one ideal game for me. Sometimes I want to play FPS, sometimes a third person action, sometimes something with more RPG things... Setting, tone, all these things may differ as well. So I'll try to distill some general principles of what I like or respond well to. I won't include simple things like "good story/writing, good music" etc. because that's just a given and YMMV on what "good" is. Badass protagonist actually being acknowledged as such: being a badass is so integral a part of most avatars you assume in video games, it's almost redundant to mention it. However the game needs to mention it, or at least acknowledge it a few different ways. This doesn't mean simply do lip service with an NPC once or twice, but should also be reflected in the game world, through actions on the part of NPCs, or conversations that don't involve you. Whether you were always badass, or you become a force to be reckoned with throughout the game, this needs to have a noticeable effect on friend and foe alike, and not a lot of games do the latter very well. I'm not asking for SpaceJesus everytime, but maybe guards shouldn't hassle me like a common thug after I've turned out to be an immortal demigod that just prevented the apocalypse (or maybe helped cause it). tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DudeWheresMyRespect(RPG specific) The PC is a legitimate character, damn it!: I wasn't a big RPG guy before Mass Effect/Skyrim and arguably that may still be the case (I don't seek out new games based solely on the RPG genre). But with my comparably limited experience, I can still say that one thing that really grinds my gears and takes me out of it is when I notice the game has just addressed me as "Hello, varPlayerAvatar". Usually this is the result of variable names and full voice acting (although when VA isn't involved there's no excuse *stares pointedly at ME emails/that accursed nameplate*, but it can also rear up when the game tries to summarize player choices or in some rarer cases where technology drops the ball and there is visible loading before a choice dependent variant is enacted. And don't try to get cute about it either (looking at you, cringey ME3 Chalkwas drinking scene). I'd rather they just named the protagonist, or allowed a small selection of names they can account for, so the proper names can be used at the appropriate times. And since this isn't a complaint, but rather an ideal thread, there are other tricks they can employ to make the PC feel like as integrated and real as other character in the world. It's all in the subtleties. Like for example, in Mass Effect, for the longest time, you're the only N7/legendary badass human soldier we specifically know of. But say they had a few more, mentioned or in passing, perhaps that preceded you. You might be walking past a group of civilians, one which just tried a stupid stunt only for his buddy to say "who did you think you were, Sinclair, Sheridan or Shepard?" Again the game needs to acknowledge you in more ways than NPCs fellating you to your face, and little things like that, independent maybe of specific choices you expect variables to be stored for can go a long way towards making you feel part of that world. Godly protagonist: again, not necessarily in teh SpaceJesus sense, and not all the time, but I do enjoy games where the PC is or becomes insanely powerful, as reflected not just in story, but also in gameplay, with abilities that feel and look and are awesome. Where it's both fun to play and think about after you shut the game down. Of course the game still needs to provide a worthy challenge, though I don't mean that as some players do where they actually enjoy high-extreme difficulty, and would personally err on the side of easier to beat. Also we need more games centered around actually playing as gods. Meaningful NPC relationships: yeah, BioWare spoiled me, I now want to woo/charm the pretty pixels all the time, and have them respond in kind. I don't just mean romance (though yeah, also romance), I'm talking about well-developed NPCs the game succeeds in getting you invested in. Before Mass Effect, the best example I could give was Alyx from Half-Life 2. Valve bent over backwards making sure she was a companion players wanted (or at least didn't mind) having around, especially in the episodes and it shows. Not everyone likes her but that's not a game failing, that's just down to personal taste and you can't please everyone. This also extends to antagonists somewhat. New Game Plus: absolutely mandatory. The first time I play I go through the hero's journey, the origin story, the rise of my character from the ranks of mediocrity or otherwise normalcy to the full or almost full level of awesome the game allows. All well and good, I'm getting the intended first experience. In subsequent playthroughs I better damn well be able to enjoy that power, and/or add/complete it with things I was locked out of or didn't get a chance to achieve the first time. Breaking the game's early levels and doing new things you weren't able to do the first time around can be an adventure all on its own. In a similar vein: Console/cheats: I like dicking with games, deal with it. Again, I can respect that first playthrough, playing it straight/as intended, but after that, it's open season. Cheating (in singleplayer) can be a perfectly valid experience, particularly if there's room for cleverness. Godmode may be pretty basic and get old fast, but the more things you can change/tweak, not just to give yourself an advantage but maybe also to change enemies or other game conditions, the more replay value you may get even in a very linear game, as the experience will vary wildly. Rather than try to purge the console and dev commands and go scorched earth on teh code, a game should embrace and enhance these things. This of course goes hand in had with: Mod support: Not a necessity for all games, but generally, the bigger and less linear your game, the more it likely needs to be able to support mods and modding. Maybe more to be added later. Other than that, there need to be more games where you design your own spaceship and then take it out and fight things, or explore the galaxy.

Not sure if something like an ideal game exists. I like too many genres that are not really compatible in order to narrow it down much but here is a game I'd be super happy to see:
Basically, take what's planned for Star Citizen, an open universe with seamless transition between space flight and FPS/TPS style gameplay on the ground. Make the MMO stuff optional (so that we can play it as SP with lot's of NPCs) but add a really intricate story line ala Mass Effect with lot's of dialogue, interesting characters and player decisions. The story should be integrated directly into the open world (similar to Freelancer, where you are just flying around and can start story missions For gameplay, mix space combat, ground based FPS/TPS combat. Also add some puzzles, either physics based like Half Life 2/Portal or logic based liek Talos Principle/the Witness or item/ classic adventure based (again, with the new inner thought action system Star Citizen would already have controls for that in a way). Aside from the main story line, allow the player to do all the other stuff, like trading, building their own base or upgrading their ship and gear.
Finally - and this is very important - give it great mod support, so that it's easy for the community to add their own stories, locations, planets, systems, ships, whatever. This whole thing should be a framework that both players/modders and developers can supply with content for years to come.
Not sure if that would be the ideal game but if done well, it would certainly be a game that would hook me for a long long time.

Personally, I'm a big scifi fan. I like the multiplayer star ship games, but I don't have any friends atm. So I don't have a crew to play with. I'd love to see a sp version of those games. Similar to what pulsar: lost colony is doing. Just, not needing any RL friends.
Outside that, I enjoy games that are slow but steady progression. Banished is one such example, rimworld is another.
And games that take an interesting spin on the FPS genre, with a single player campaign. Games like titan fall 2.
Finally, I like games with a strong story. Where everything about the universe is well thought out, and the mechanics and story match up. the first Mass Effect is a great example here. Also, the wolf among us and...pretty much anything tell tale has done.
What I don't like, if a game has zombies I won't buy it. Period. I don't care what the mechanics are, the genre its in, or anything else about it. If it has zombies, I'm out.

Im pretty simple in needs tbh, i'd a been perfectly happy if Bungie had just continued to release dlc for Destiny 1 an continuously built upon it mmo style instead of a new game but alas, but yeah i like that hybrid sort of game an would simply be delirious for a ME game in same shape

Just thought of something that would be interesting. A game that has actual hacking in it. Not just using automated systems to find info and do certain tasks. But a game where you have to use actual linux/unix commands to 'hack' into an in game machine.
Another game where you are taught programming, and/or have to use programming to solve certain problems. I know people are working on this, but I don't know of any games that actually do this yet.
Edit: actually games where you are taught the basics of IT would be awesome as well. Where you have to diagnose hardware problems with a computer, then swap out the part you think is causing an issue. Or a game that teaches you subnetting.

I like the idea behind the NWN2 one, when you could make your own small game, I thought it was pretty cool I have not seen Toolset in FO4, but I only did a 10 hour trial for it, so I might have missed it.

The TES games allow for pretty awesome total conversions. Check out Nehrim for Oblivion and Enderal for Skyrim for example. Mot sure if there are mods this intrecate for FO4 but I think the TES and FO toolsets are pretty much identical. But my favorite about the TES/FO modding tools is not so much the TCs, as awesome as they are. I like that you can just constantly add to the actual main game, no matter if it's just a weapon, a location or a quest. This keeps the game itself super interesting. As A SciFi fan, I wish they had something like this for a game like Mass Effect. That game is modular in structure as it is. Imagine, if fans could just add new starsystems to the galaxy map and tell their own stories there. Hopefully Star Citizen will aloow extensive modding on private servers once release. Unfortunately there, the whole modding scene is of course a bit undercut by the fact that it's an MMO and thus any mod will split the community that is necessary to make the game principle work, so I doubt this will be the one I am really waiting for yet (though if they really do manage to implement all their stuff eventually, it would be close in most other aspects). But then, SC will not be out in that form until the late 2020s, so maybe we'll see another contender for my ideal-ish game in the meantime.

Basically Dragon Age... there is a reason Origins and Inquisition are the two greatest games of all time. More that please.
