Sure it may only work once but that does not inherently invalidate the idea, especially when games are getting so large these days we may only be able to play it once! The once may not even happen, because of the Epic Rage Quit. Although, actually, weren't there metrics on how most people didn't finish DAI or TW3? they lose their steam because it's so big and bored quit or something. Probably. I think that's a big problem. Gaming is in such an interesting place right now because A. these longer development times leads to game devs wanting to create longer games so people can play them until their next *big* game comes out. B. But the trick is to keep it interesting enough so people actually keep playing them. And then C. which leads to longer development times because game devs have to work on more quality content. The solution just might be the *gasp* live service model.

The way games are interesting to me is multiple resolution opportunities and Role Play Support. These Devs are making it longer because my digital horse has to gallop a long time to get somewhere- that's not interesting. That will not get me to play a second time.

When we are talking about replayability it basically comes down to either one of two things. Is your game fun enough where people will play it just because? Now I love doing more then one playthrough of games or even doing missions over and over again but I usually do a lot of the same things. I've had...like 6 PTs of DAI, with just two different Inquisitors...I think that's how it breaks down. Kara pretty much does a lot of the same things RP wise...*except for the last PT grumble grumble* but the game is fun enough or the games are fun enough where I just do it. Also this can apply to wanting to finish games on higher difficulty. The other thing is divergeant paths and this can come in small or large ways including multiple endings.

colfoley I liked DA2 with it's three distinct personalities to express, 4 in depth tied to the story romances, and diverging paths and resolutions, some of which were behind the scenes, and some of which just changed the flavor to the inevitable events. it was a short game with problems, but it was great in all the ways that matter to me. I also liked TW2 where there was Act 1 and then depending on a big decision, two completely different paths. This meant a shorter game (<30 hours, including the start which was the same no matter what), obviously, because of all the resources devoted to each very different path. This was excellent. I'm a bit awed by the world building in AC Odyssey. I'm impressed. All that effort doesn't make p for the fact that when I pissed Mission Giver A off twice in a row in a way she really cared about and then she Shizo'd back to, "That all worked out Friend! here's the info!" 5 minutes later. I may finish AC Od, but I'm never going to play it a second time, even to just to murder all the people I found annoying the first time I played.

A. I'm kind of rushing it a leeeetlle because Ace Combat drops in January AND I also wanna finally do Horizon Zero Dawn and...I'm enjoying the game. I am dubious about the branching paths in the game but hey, its fun.

I want shit to get fucked up, lol. I want the veil to come down in the opening cutscene, without any possibility of it being repaired. I want to have to navigate a broken world that will never be the same.

Although, actually, weren't there metrics on how most people didn't finish DAI or TW3? they lose their steam because it's so big and bored quit or something. I mean, statistically speaking most people don't finish most games. I think DAI probably has a lower completion rate than DAO or DA2 because it's longer, but only 36% of players finished Origins and 41% finished DA2. Mass Effect 2 had an unusually high completion rate for BioWare at 56%. (All numbers from here.)
Always remember: those of us who hang out on the internet and talk about Dragon Age are a bunch of statistical outliers who do all kinds of weird things like playing as female characters and rogues and non-humans and actually finishing the games.

Hello everyone!
I finally joined BSN two days before the Game Awards (so that I can finally participate in polls and like stuff. Also because I definitely expected something to drop. Sorry to everyone wondering who this person liking all their posts is...) after lurking here for quite a while already 😅
Okay, so this is not connected to the last things talked about here, but one thing I wish for (except for the Inquisitor returning in some form except that of a letter or voice) is to see how the Evanuris looked like. The concept art for Solas was so promising and then all we got is bald. Let me see these god-like elven rulers in all their glory and also Arlathan while we're at it! I'd also like to see how everything went down when Solas created the Veil (or maybe even how he "rose to become the Dread Wolf").

I think fortunately it's fairly likely they will.

I realize it's kind of unlikely since Weekes wrote Solas and he's the lead writer now, but I'd like it if Solas died early game. More specifically, when he tears down the veil I'd like the Evanuris to show up to do just that. I'm thinking along the lines of how easily and quickly Thanos killed a certain trickster god in Infinity Wars. Then the Evanuris would be the real threat we have to take down.

I wish to collect over 1000 shards resulting in receiving 10 elfroot as the reward. I want some of those shards in really hard to reach places that folks, including myself, will make a thread moaning and groaning about it.
If there is a scene showing a demon possessing someone, I want that demon to say, ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL.
If in a romance, I wouldn't mind if both have matching armor. If someone isn't a companion, both can have matching casual clothing.

1. I wish for the male elves to look more manly. More muscle mass (go back to Origin design).
2. I wish dalish elves would look more tribal. More tattoos, including body art. More hair styles, including mohawk, and piercings.
3. Body customization sliders.
4. Different style of armor for different races and backgrounds (ex. dalish armor look more tribal or ancient like solas armor).
5. A dalish purest teammate like Velanna, but more extreme.
6. Bring back healing magic. Constantly casting barriers was garbage.

1) I want a TRUE open world. I am replaying DAI and laughing as I recall the debates on BSN about how 'open world' ruined it. DAI is large hubs but it is not open world. I want a big rich world like Assassin's Creed Odyssey is or Witcher 3. Turn me loose in it and let me explore! No loading screens! I shouldn't have to get a loading screen for entering a new area or opening a door!
2) I want more immersive side-quests! The criticism of DAI's side missions is deserved and legit. They were often dull and fetchy!
3) I want more immersion with the characters of the world. I want them to remember me and whether previous encounters were good or bad. I want them to surprise me with how they feel about those interactions!
4) I want sexier outfits. I don't mean big boobs on the ladies or Mass Effect 2 booty. But I do mean better outfits. I want to be able to entertain my npc romance in a suitable boudoir and in sexy garb.
5) I want a really mean big bad. If it's Solas let him be able to kill random party members (base it on choices) that I care about. Make me feel the tension.
6) If it's a games as a service model then take a look at how Witcher 3 did it or how Ubisoft has done it recently. Assassin's Creed Odyssey shipped with a ton of content but they've added free quests recently and items. True there is paid stuff but the amount of free content being offered is ridiculous and great. Look at these models for how to do it and please your community.

And I wouldn't mind actually sexy outfits that really are just there so you can be a bit pervy, as long as it's available for both men and women. But above all, just armor that looks fancy and fashionable, even if doesn't look practical. Fashion is important!

I have no problem with Solas succeeding at the start of the game only for it to backfire immensely that he himself isn't the big bad anymore. Just don't want to chase Solas' tail the entire game honestly. I don't care about him.

As much as I love AC: Origins & Odyssey (and their impressive OW vistas), I think the way DA:I handles it works well for that game.
All those diverse locations is something you wouldn't be able to do on a single-map game (deserts, swamps, forests, jungles, etc. across southern Thedas). In the next game, I'd think I'd still prefer to have a number of discrete regions in the north (eg. Tevinter, Seheron, Arlathan Forest, The White Spires, Kal Sharok, etc.), rather than just be locked into one relatively small region around Minrathous.

Plus the Evanuris seem interesting, so I hope they show up in some capacity. Well, I get not feeling like he can carry the game as the villain. I just figure replacing one angry ancient Elf with seven angry ancient Elves just takes things even further in the wrong direction. Plus, I don't want the Evanuris as villains, ever, frankly. I want them to be mostly benevolent, because honestly, I feel like "the ancient gods who we thought were good were actually evil sorcerers, and the evil one was a misunderstood revolutionary!" is easily one of the top ten most trite RPG cliches at this point. Honestly, it would be a much more satisfying "twist" for it to turn out that the ancient one who's associated with lies and deception was actually lying the whole time. And really, the fact that that would be seen as a "twist" at this point is a big part of why the Solas story is so boring in the first place.

Honestly, it would be a much more satisfying "twist" for it to turn out that the ancient one who's associated with lies and deception was actually lying the whole time. And really, the fact that that would be seen as a "twist" at this point is a big part of why the Solas story is so boring in the first place. Except, that the misunderstood revolutionary is also evil.

People still want open world? I prefer a little bit more linear, helps with storytelling and choices/consequences, maybe restricting some areas until X point in the story progress.
