What about a spear used for close range fighting with one of the moves to be throwing it? I believe that option existed for daggers in DA2 though I haven't replayed recently enough to say for sure. What if there was a move that threw it but it was attached by chain and you could yank it back? like grappling chain that does damage and doesn't move you. This brings to mind I want a grappling arrow ability in Archery. I'd love to just be able to rocket around the battlefield on all applicable surfaces.

Romances progress tied to main events.
Dorian was ridiculous fast and I thought he was the only one to suffer from that. Now I'm watching husband play with an intended romance with Cullen and even he feels like it was going too fast and chose not to start a relationship with Cullen until he'd done more zones and Dragon Battles.
Blackwall's romance was gated not to get it's final resolution until after both Adamant and Winter Palace had been completed, it felt like it's content was fairly well paced. And I think Sera is gated not to super lock till post Arbor Wilds as well?
DA2 was locked to acts as well, although it would have been nice to have repeatable kisses.
Control that narrative pacing, Bioware. Don't be ubisoft but also don't be ME where the "big scene" happens literally as you're flying to your "maybe going to die" mission.

This goes for the whole story. Every time I play DAO and DAI both I have to deliberately plan when I'm going to have certain talks with companions so that our friendship/romance/rivalry actually makes sense and feels organic. Which isn't a huge deal when you've played the game twenty times, but on a blind playthrough it can really throw off the narrative. Felt like that was something DA2 did right. The relationships played out over the course of years, and it took certain story beats to really move things forward. The pacing was even in every relationship (minus maybe Sebastian? Idk enough about his stuff) and it made for a more solid relationship arc (and I'm not just talking about romance. Relationships with siblings, parents, friends, important political figures...).

Romances progress tied to main events. I didn't really like how this played out in MEA. In my first 2 games, the pacing was terrible. I wasn't even sure if I was IN a romance because nothing was happening. I would prefer they not be linked and let me figure out how I want to play them on my own. I don't want to be forced to progress the main story in order to see unrelated content. Locking romances behind main story events also prevents you from seeing more than one per game, since if you switch (or want to switch) late you'll miss most of the romance content with the second one. DAI already has this problem, especially with early soft locks that don't let you play the field either.

Which isn't a huge deal when you've played the game twenty times, but on a blind playthrough it can really throw off the narrative. Yeah, I find this tricky with Dorian in particular. It's not just his romance that can progress ridiculously quickly - all it takes is resolving the mage/Templar conflict in a way he approves of and choosing some conversation options he likes and you're his best friend in the world ten minutes after you reach Skyhold. Which makes him seem kind of clingy, frankly.

More hairstyles that aren't hideous mullets, and if you're going to do buzzcuts again, use the last ones from DAI, those actually looked good, just don't overdo it with the buzzcuts.

Crossbows. I'm still really bitter about DA:I. Ditto!
Even if Varric has the only working repeating crossbow in Thedas, why shouldn't we get to enjoy the regular type? There should be an option for warriors/rogues to use staves. Pole-weapons were a pretty standard weapon for medieval armies in our world, so unless there's a stigma around using them because of mages, you'd think that they should be a common sight in Thedas as well?
(But really... I just kinda wanna smack some fools upside the head with a blade-on-a-stick, is that so much to ask?)
Chakrams... Hells to the yes! Chakrams or Wind and Fire Wheels would be amazing Rogue weapons.

Scratch that, they SHOULD be . Oh, and they are... ...in the Qunari list. About time they started using more than just primitive spears for long-range fighting. Perhaps. I suppose Dragon Age Dwarves NOT being Steampunk Engineers is one of the franchises' subversions, but I really wanted to recreate a particular D&D character .
In any event, this reminds me of a particular quest I wrote for a DA tabletop session: a couple of Merchant Guild Artisans need you to help protect them from Ben-Hassrath assassins while they set up a meeting to try and sell reverse engineered gaatlok to high ranking Magisters. After many close calls, you get to the mages, only to find out that they want you dead as well. Turns out the Imperium already knows the black powder formula, and have been suppressing it for centuries. Even at the cost of denying themselves a game changing asset, the Magisterium doesn't want such power in the hands of non-mages. Dwarf and/or Warden players would have had the opportunity to be enraged, since black powder weapons could have helped greatly against the darkspawn. At the end, you could help the Magisters, Ben-hassrath, the dwarves, or take the formula for yourself .

Gaatlok, as it turns out is a magical weapon, though. ...not that I'd be bothered by dwarves figuring out real gunpowder, and the collective soiling of Qunari drawers that that would probably entail.

I'd rather they not bring guns into Dragon Age, it looses it's medieval fantasy feeling. TBF, Europe had firearms during the 14th Century. Cannons and primitive handheld guns were used in the Hundred Years War, for example.
Still, I would prefer that guns were kept out of DA.
