I touched on this ages ago, but on the topic of farming crafting materials, my "Pie In The Sky" dream would be to turn it more a business and skip the farming. For example, you would explore the region you're in and find places to invest in mines. They do the work for you, and you just come back periodically to pick up your (metal) crafting materials, gold, gems, and sell whatever you didn't need. And that's all you would need to do. However, the more you invest, perhaps even hiring specialist NPCs, the greater the output, and the greater the chance they'll find exotic fade-touched materials. Over time, you watch as your operations grow larger, and they might even uncover hidden locations for you to explore. And then carry this idea to the other crafting materials. Explore a region, find seeds for your various crafting plants, then invest in a greenhouse/farm to grow this stuff for you. Hire people to pick what's available in the region. Maybe hire on a specialist like Ines the Botanist. For common monsters/wildlife, set up hunting camps in the region and have hunters roam the area getting hides for you. The more you invest, more hides, and a greater chance you'll get a heads-up that an exotic/fade-touched monster has moved into the area. The general idea here being - encourage exploration and investment, watch your ventures grow over time, and skip the tedious farming. I'd also avoid Preston Garvey-ing these ventures where you're constantly having to run around protecting them. The odd time is okay (eg. if there's quest tied to it), but not to overdo it. I kinda see this as a combination of what Phoray had suggested with the merchant selling stuff. And the looking for quarry and log thingies in Inquisition. It is actually a great idea. You cut down on the obnoxious looting of crafting material while also encouraging exploring, and you are not getting all the materials shipped automatically to you, though perhaps this could be made a purchaseable upgrade later on in the game? If we are going to have something like the war table in DA4, something about establishing supply roads. Yeah, this would be a good upgrade path. You don't want picking up materials (esp. late game/elder game) to become a chore either.

Are we talking about a bazar type of deal? such as EverQuest and other MMo"s ? Hmm, I'm not sure how EQ handles it (it's been ages since I've even looked at it), you may need to explain that one...

I was just thinking, if DA4 plans to incorporate day/night (seasonal?) cycles, towns/cities whose NPCs have routines, etc., I'd love to be able to have our characters relax in-game. Have a seat by the fire in a tavern, lounge on a balcony overlooking Minrathous, or just sit in the grass on a hill somewhere. That said, I know that having characters sit in a game is pain to implement (esp. with multiple races). But there's a surprising amount of value in just being able to chill out in big open(ish)-world games, and watch the world go by. There's a number of games that let you sit down, lie down, or include relaxing activities like fishing. Skyrim, FF XV, MH:W, etc., but one the best implementations I've seen was in Assassin's Creed: Origins - Discovery Tour. You could not only relax, but you could (for fun) do the things the NPCs were doing. Here's just a sample... It really made me wish you could do these things in the main game. Or any open-world game.

DA5 may not happen. PLEASE. I mean, heck, until there's a DA4 actually on store shelves, it's not unreasonable to think DA4 may not happen. That said, however much I may agree with the no-cliffhanger sentiment, the "this will feel like it stands alone and the plot has been resolved"-factor is one I don't even have enough faith in to add to a "wishlist". Casting coherency aside for hype is just too profitable.

1. Pause in game. One where you can queue commands, look around and generally take your time. Yes we've always had this but I don't want it to go away. 2. Save anywhere. No 'can't save' zones that are just an exercise in frustration and detract from the fun of the game. Plus save during combat and save during cut scenes. No reason for them not to be there. We had save in combat in KotOR fer crying out loud. 3. 'Tactical' view that can be used anywhere. 4. Auto-attacks 5. A full list of abilities allowed to be used on a toolbar (like DA:O) 6. A tactical cam that doesn't get caught on terrain. Allow it to float. 7. Intrigue and political sections that don't just end in yet another 'boss fight'. 8. More than 5 enemies on screen at a time. Give me hordes. 9. Money can't buy you everything. Not items, not influence, not power. 10. I play to relax, explore and maybe have fun, not to stoke my depression further, so lets not concentrate on slavery, blood-magic and brain-washing eh?

Dragon Age has been dealing with those topics since Origins, taking away those elements would be like asking a Battlefield game not to comment on the brutality of war.

so lets not concentrate on slavery, blood-magic and brain-washing eh? I know what you're saying, but I hope you're disappointed. Because I absolutely want those things or I'm going to feel like they watered down Tevinter Well...they should be showing it how it is, of course, but how is it, really? For instance, we know is that slavery is common, but how much would you recognize its presence in everyday life, if you were just walking down the streets and interacting little with people? Not every public space is a slave market. People have life-and-death power over their slaves, but how many actually use it, given that slaves are also a valuable commodity and some may be valued as skilled workers. Slavery is an evil, but there are degrees to it. Depending on those, the picture may vary quite a bit.
It's even more problematic with blood magic, since officially it isn't done. So you *definitely* wouldn't see it unless you break into the sanctum of a mage who does it - and not all of them do - even though it's common knowledge that it's done.
So, I'd agree that they should show these things where they would naturally occur, but I also agree that they shouldn't concentrate on them overmuch. I want to see all aspects of Tevinter culture, not just the bad ones.

I mean. Fenris mentioned how Danarius was parading him around. The slaves are servants, potential bodyguards, property more or less.

I mean. Fenris mentioned how his Danarius was parading him around. "...on a leash like a Qunari mage, a personal pet to mock Qunari custom." Charming fella, that Danarius. 😱 That said, I'm sure we'll see all aspects of Tevinter culture. In Paying the Ferryman we see through Calpernia's eyes, first as a slave and then as an elevated "free" woman - we see how she's treated, what she learns, how dismissive of her those in power are. She visits a bazaar to buy expensive incense (an experience that has her feeling very glamorous). And in-game she has this line: "Tevinter was the cradle of civilization. Imagine what her future could be. A crafter of wonders, standing against the savage Qunari. A beacon for all!" And Dorian: "For all our faults, my people have many virtues. We are laden with history and culture - Tevinter is where Thedas truly began, remember. We treasure our past and preserve it. You can walk down a side street and find nothing built during the modern ages. And, despite appearances, we care. Deeply. About everything. We have no reserve, not in war and not in love. If I truly believed my homeland was beyond all hope, I wouldn't miss it so much." So I imagine we'll see both sides of Tevinter. We'll peel back that exquisite oil painting to find rot underneath. Anders: So, there must be mages in Tevinter that don't use blood magic. Fenris: Of course. There are slaves. The Magisters do not hesitate to collar their own kind. Anders: But no Magisters? Fenris: Why must you go on about this? No Magister would turn down an advantage over his rivals. If he did, he'd be dead. I'M SO EXCITED GYAAAHHHHHH

A long while back I mentioned that we needed more aerial views of cities/towns. Like when you enter redcliffe in DAO, they do a cinematic sweep over. a similar alternative would be what AC Odyssey does with it's Sync Points. You take on the eyes of an eagle and get a circular sweep of the town. Some of these sweeps have been really beautiful, especially on time of day.

What about a spear used for close range fighting with one of the moves to be throwing it? I believe that option existed for daggers in DA2 though I haven't replayed recently enough to say for sure.

What if there was a move that threw it but it was attached by chain and you could yank it back? like grappling chain that does damage and doesn't move you.
