Hmm... that implies that you're not optimizing around frequent pausing, then. In DAI we certainly aimed for the middle of the road between tactical pausing and full action, which in retrospect, probably didn't properly serve either audience. This is a very close approximation of the way I play both Dragon Age and Mass Effect and honestly, any restrictions on the amount of skills I can use are terrible for me. While in many combat encounters I will use 4-6 spells/abilities, having the option to pause and choose something special for a harder or just plain different kind of fight is one thing I always appreciated in Bioware games.

My problem with being limited to 8 slots was that it made leveling up in the latter portion of DAI kind of pointless. Once I had all of my abilities mapped to my controller, what was the point other then to chase passives that boosted my attributes (which means I had to put my few remaining points into stuff I couldn't use just to get to them)? I completely agree. We had no use for those points, and your abilities didn't change, after you filled your bar with your proper build. This is something that I think requires a fundamental change to what is offered on level up.

Though I do agree if you can do something to avoid us having to waste those ability points for the end game that'd be much appreciated.

Some kind of profile system like in Andromeda, the tac cam needs to be entirely unlimbered, and a slight expansion on the tactical options...and if we go for pure wishfullment then an entirely new approach to stealth. BUT the game nailed the balance between tactics and action better then any in the series so far, it was enjoyable, your characters could get really powerful...and for the most part the mobs were neither too numerous or too tanky.

Slight? I prefer the tactics menu from Origins and 2 to Inquisition's. I like to go deep when defining combat behaviors, and Inquisition's... yeah, wasn't deep enough

Only thing that they needed to do in Inq was add a target priority. There were too many instances when I was playing my Rogue that bull, who I set to defend PC, would just stand there.

Anyone at Bioware reading this? Yes. While I don't read every thread (I mostly avoid the lore ones) I do always read this one and the Twitter response thread. And for those who don't know, I only have direct influence over gameplay and progression so everything else I can merely pass along as anecdotal statements. Glad you're here. As you can see, we have questions. lol

I can live without the 'if/then' customizations. Actually, I think the AI companions are not so bad when using abilities. The really bad thing is that they can not position themselves well. For example, an archer usually tends to move close to the enemies and doesn't run away. On the other hand, I like the 'aggressive/defensive/ranger/etc' setting. In DAI the 'follow/defend' setting is confusing and doesn't really work well. Overall I love the combat in DAI and it's one of the best in this generation in my opinion. However, I understand it's difficult to satisfy both audiences. If Bioware decides to make it more action (I think they will), I hope it's still team-based. I want to interact with my companions not only in conversations, but also in combats. I don't want to play another Witcher/Assassin's Creed/Dark Souls.

I would like to have all spells/abilities available to use, but I hope at least they don't go lower than 8. To me it makes combat a bit boring if I only have 3 or 4 spells to use. I also have a few wishlist items for save games: - I would like to be able to save anywhere I want (outside of combat)
- I would like to have as many save games as I want
- I would like to be able to name my save games

DAO is the only game in the series where I can actually say I enjoyed the combat. DA2 and DAI it felt more like a chore in order to get to the good stuff (story and character interactions). DOS2 reminded me that combat can actually be fun in RPGs - it had been many years since I had felt that way.
Personally I would be ok with fewer, more meaningful, combat interactions. Or avoidable combat.
