Duh, yes. You have choice and it's better than having no choice but the premise for making this choice and its intended narrative functions are all wrong.

I've said and repeated what i think of the thing and you have as well, and the topic isn't even about the content of the ending we got. We're obviously not gonna change each other's minds and i think the longform conversation has run its course at tgis point.

Why is it people who like to complain about the ending are so quick to stop talking about it? I'm starting to think it is because you know your wrong or your argument has flaws. And you would rather stop talking then deal with those flaws. Is it pride? I think it is pride.

Wonderful excuse to not address what I said. Why is it people who like to complain about the ending are so quick to stop talking about it? I'm starting to think it is because you know your wrong or your argument has flaws. And you would rather stop talking then deal with those flaws. Is it pride? I think it is pride. Haha, let's call it that then. Then what is it? I'm not going to change your mind because I'm not capable of it. We aren't hardwired that way. Me telling you you are wrong triggers the same responds in your brain as me running up with a base ball bat and taking a swing at you. You enter fight or flight mode and you dig your heels in and further defend your point. That is how we get anti vax or climate change deniers or flat earth theorists or even worse conspiracy theorists that think a school shooting is a false flag. And all those grieving parents are really just paid actors that you have to harass and threaten to get them to spill the beans on the deep state or globalist or illuminate or what ever shadow bogey man they think they are fighting so it validates their shit head actions. The only one who can change your mind is you and only if your willing. Which it has been evident from the very start you never were. What ever deity or higher power you may or may not worship could show up in person in front of you and with their infinite and unlimited knowledge tell you that your wrong and you wouldn't change your mind. Non of us will. We are all stubborn to the point of idiocy. Everyone. We are all stubborn morons that collectively as a species has caused untold death and suffering because the concept we might be wrong and someone else is right is so alien to us we would rather shoot ourselves in the foot then even consider we are wrong. So what is it? Because the very nature of discussing a game is a meaningless waste of time. Even more so for a game that has been out as long as Mass Effect. Your not a troll and your not an idiot. Pride and/or ego is all that is left. You don't want to talk to someone who disagrees with you? Is this another example of our pretty fucked up mental hard wiring? The aspect that has us that likes to build a bubble of people, places or things that agree with us. And refuse to interact or talk to or with as much as possible anything and everything that goes against the bubble. You know like those sub reddits that will instantly ban you if you so much as vaugly question the sub reddit's beliefs. So why are you here? You clearly don't want to have a discussion or debate with people who disagree with you. You don't like long responds so you aren't here to waste time. So why are you here? I can't tell your motives I can only infer them.

GothPunkBoy, I may continue the whole ending justification debate further, but not in this topic. I actually just made another one around the same time that was actually about the content of the ending itself, regarding the words spoken by the Catalyst, and not about earlier drafts of the entire plot. I do have more to say, but I'm also a bit tired of the never-ending back and forth at this point, but for now, I'd prefer if we let this topic return to the matter of what the story might've been before, or observations regarding the pictures posted in the OP.

Saren was indoctrinated but the way it worked is that he still thought he was doing the right thing for himself (and organics in general). Indoctrination allowed him to deceive himself into thinking that making the organics slaves of the reapers was the only way to save them. That way, he ended up working with and for the reapers. That made sense. It also sorta made sense, because you can understand the logic of "we'll all die and there's nothing we can do, so, let's just succumb and be enslaved to prevent total extinction." -- it's the same logic of Dr. Breen from Half Life 2 under the columbine invasion if you know that one. But with TIM, it only halfway makes sense. "He wants to control Reapers? Oh, but he's controlled himself!" however, why does he want to control the Reapers? The answer is, BLANKET STATEMENTS. He says we "have to" and "it's the only way!". He thinks it can defeat the Reapers while attempting to kill them is a waste of time. That's all. There's no basis for neither argument because it all hinges on a device - The Crucible - nobody knows what can do. There's not even any tangible theorizing going on or TIM bluffing that he has data that reveals control is a possibility, or Shepard and his destruction-idea basically. BioWare decided to downplay this aspect of the plot or they only talked about it behind the script and actaully forgot to address it for the audience, because the whole game goes by and you don't know why anyone believes the Crucible will either kill or control Reapers besides the fact that it's a vague "possibility" and that's just not a good macguffin for a story. Sure, we can desperately hope for it but it renders all conversations between Shepard and TIM pointless and rambly because they're literally arguing nothing besides egotistic "I'm right!" vs "no, I'm right!". It's unintelligent writing. That's the only place where the former idea might've been better. It's a huge contrivance to suddenly say all of Cerberus is simply "working with Reapers" but it would've actaully worked better than this if it had meant they were litterally mindless puppets who just shoot at things because "The Reapers are our daddies now!" and then Shepard and the rest would have all the reason to simply go to war with Cerberus until the end of the game when they're obliterated for good.
