This is all giving me some giddy feeling inside even though nothing has happened. Still, I feel like it's very possibly my only hope of seeing more ME. And maybe that MET remaster wouldn't be off the table if it were designed for Xbox One.

I'm surprised EA hasn't published an statement already to avoid all the speculation, something is definitely going on atm. Come on, Microsoft. Get these IPs, remaster the Mass Effect Trilogy like you did with Gears Of War, publish it for Xbox and PC. Support Anthem. Get that next Battlefield, bring Titanfall to where it belongs, keep those sports licenses multi as the contract demand, revive Dead Space, absorb EA Access into Game Pass. Man, it's a gold mine EA fucked up. Also, please dump Origin...

If Fifa, Madden and Battlefield, and all Star Wars games became exclusive to Xbox and PC I can't see a way back for Sony - it would cripple them like it does Nintendo. I don't care for any of those licenses but that's like 30%+ of annual games sales in one fell swoop.

Star Wars and FIFA would never go exclusive, Disney own the rights to Star Wars and wouldn't want to cut off so many people, in the same sense football is the world game and FIFA wouldn't want to do the same thing.

"Dump frostbite to unreal.." You do realize theres the same obstacles, different bugs, its not made for RPGs either ffs... ? This would also take craploads of time to do again, and they would have maybe even less support than with the in-house engine. OMG. "The armchair developers on the Internet are always wrong".

Oh, the irony would be sweet, but I cannot endorse such an arrangement, it is bad news for gamers/players. You're all just bitter and blaming EA for your BioWare Woes, but the fact of the matter is, in order to get good, varied products in ANY field, you need COMPETITION, when companies start grabbing up the competition, the consumer loses, everytime. This is not good news, even if it has such a beautiful irony to it.

Microsoft is just as likely to shut down Bioware as EA is, as indeed all corporations are.

Ok, so I've got a few things to say on this:
First of: for those thinking that this is the second coming, that if Micro$haft bought EA they'd instantly launch into the remakes & dredge up the old franchises, where is the proof of this?
Next: people are always saying that EA are the big bad greed corporation, but honestly, Microsoft have them beaten on that by a long shot, I mean, I was just made redundant & I can't update my C.V on my on laptop without subscribing to Microsoft office & if EA wanted the biggest profit then staying independent would do that as Sony's Playstation nets them more profit.
Next up: I heard a while back, no so sorry can't be more specific, that if Sony lost Playstation they'd be screwed, for want of a better phrase, but Microsoft could easily absorb the loss off Xbox.
My 4th point: EA's been in the news a lot recently, in a negative light with the MTX fiasco & their share prices have fallen, they did so again this year with the release of the Kotaku article about live services in Dragon Age. Would this information about MS thinking about buying EA have even com to light if EA hadn't been in the news like they had? Would MS even have thought about it? How often do these types of talks go on? We hear more now because so much information is more readily available to us, besides, EA is a publisher, not a development studio, so how would that work in general?
Anyway, if Microsoft did buy EA & the only way I could continue to play DA & ME was on a Microsoft platform, then I'd have to buy an Xbox as I can;t stand PC gaming (in general have nothing against PC gamers), but I'd make sure MS got as little from me as possible, I'd buy a second hand unit & absolutely not subscribe to Xbox live, even though I've enjoyed the MP in those games to date.
Anyway I've said all that's on my mind, in short, I don't think it would be a good idea, but that's just my opinion.
EDIT: Removed incorrect information.

this is further reinforced by the fact that Sony always make a profit with every Playstation unit sold, but Microsoft run the Xbox console as a loss leader, in short, they make so much money from elsewhere that the Xbox is nothing more than just another asset to them. You're probably thinking of Nintendo, because Sony loses money on every PS4 sold. Masayasu Ito, Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president, has admitted that for every PS4 console sold, Sony will be losing money. In other words, the cost of manufacturing and shipping the console costs more than the retail price. However, the loss is not going to be that great, and the company believes it will easily make the money back from the sales of games and PlayStation Plus subscriptions alongside the hardware.Sony isn’t saying how much of a loss it will incur per console, but the loss will apparently easily be recouped after, or even during that initial hardware sale. That isn’t just because a PS Plus subscription is more important for this generation, but Ito suggested developing games for the system will cost less, too. So while games retain their $60 price point, they should cost less than PS3 games did to create, meaning higher profits per title.www.geek.com/games/sony-will-sell-every-ps4-at-a-loss-but-easily-recoup-it-in-games-ps-plus-sales-1571335/

One of them offers a back compat program. One of them offers EA Access. One of them offers Game Pass. One of them offers a console with out of the box graphics improvements over previous gens, and play anywhere.
Hate Microsoft's first party output all you want, but you can't deny that Microsoft is the most consumer friendly of the three this gen. Cut of that bullshit. Look at the shitstorm EA caused last years where entire countries began looking after it. I won't say they're guilty for MEA sucking, cause BioWare fucked up that one, but they're doing a lot more evil to the industry.

If EA gets EA'ed by Microsoft, that would be the biggest case of irony in the history of gaming industry. It will be glorious, especially if they will suffer the same fate as Westwood RIP. Yeah, but there's nobody emotionally invested in the fate of EA. Their brass could just as well sell toilet paper as they sell games. So they simply move on to the next highly paid job opportunity.

This would be a null-sum thing for us, if you think Microsoft would treat their IPs any better then EA you are looking at something that I don't see. How many games and developers have ended with Microsoft over the last couple of years? To the comments of Origin, yes they would remove Origin for something even better the Microsoft Storefront.
Personally I think this is chalking up to rumor or someone misspeaking for to me there doesn't seem to be enough for Microsoft to go through all the potential regulatory problems and costs instead of going out and buying smaller developers and people that self publish. When they can just go out and buy smaller developers with far less headaches and more potential gain.

one think i will say is, while i don't defend EA, i don't put all the blame to them, BioWare is also guilty of a lot of sins.
for me it's a pretty 50/50 to be honest.

As long as they dump that Frostbite crap for a real engine (or "unreal" engine, wink wink) It's no wonder their animatronics have gotten worse since frostbite when you consider that they used integrated features from UE3 to create the cinematics of the trilogy and them having had to rebuild this tech themselves for Frostbite has just been a disaster. I'll give it that it looked better as far as facial expressions went in DAI but it still looked more like animatronics than it did in the trilogy and the camerawork in particular got way way worse.

The problem is people were still whining about the UE3 based cinematics they were "last gen looking" and a "complete piece of crap" combined with other comments about how bad the game looked visually comments like that were common with Mass Effect 2 and 3, so that could just as easily been a vocal problem with it if they did decide to use Unreal.

I know my opinion MIGHT be in the minority, or at least controversial, but IMO BioWare games have gotten pretty much consistently better since EA bought them. Only real anomoly was ME 3, which I still enjoyed more then ME 1 but there was obvious problems with the game. The only area which might have degraded was their plot writing but they have had across the board improvements...or haven't gotten any worse in any area from character writing, to bugs, to gameplay etc. No "might" about it. You are definitely the minority. Andromeda is a poop stain on the Mass Effect underwear.

VERY INTERESTING. I got the request from Microsoft to do a survey (see below) and the questions we very much about preferred games and why, single vs. multi, good stories, high quality graphics, exclusivity, etc. This rumor and the timing of this survey are interesting. Greetings from Microsoft Studios User Research! We're contacting you because we want to better understand the needs of people who play games. We want to hear from all types of people: it doesn't matter if you play casual games on your PC, spend all your time gaming on your phone, or you play first-person shooters on your console. We want to hear from everyone! Below, you'll find a link to a survey that should take around 20 minutes to complete. This survey will cover your gaming preferences, habits, and some demographic information. Start Survey Thank you for your time and feedback! CLassic microsoft: we won't build our own studios from scratch but instead we ll buy another so the other will miss the games. seriously?? Well, I can't really say that it's not a sound tactic, but I just can't see Microsoft successfully pulling off any decent game out of whatever in-house studio it could cobble together. Shit they can't even make a good mobile OS to save their lives.
