I don't see why a character like this should offend anyone. We've had all types of characters in Dragon Age and a character like this can only benefit the game series unless someone somehow becomes jealous of a fucking game character... which has happened, unfortunately.
As long as she isn't annoying like Sera and as high and mighty as Vivienne then a character like this could have major potential. Additionally, if people find that they really like her then fortunately she wouldn't be race/gender gated, which became an issue with Inquisition since people wanted to romance (example) Dorian as a female protag.
TL;DR: There aren't many ways to go wrong with a character like this because she can appeal to every person in some way, unless they're bigoted in some way and if somehow Bioware catches on to this idea they'd do an amazing job, seeing their history with creating fantastic characters.

It's why for a long time I thought she was demisexual thus had representation until David Gaider ruined that with his proclamation of all the DA2 LIs being just bisexual. Luckily though years later Mary Kirby said that that was a valid interpretation of the character.

You can't give someone the wrong impression. Merrill showed zero sexual interest in women, this is a fact. Sure you can. People don’t have to tell other people who or what they are sexually interested in. Also, she shows no sexual interest in men either so by your logic she is Asexual. Not true. (At Lowtown) "You know, I sort of miss the Qunari. They didn't talk much, but they were easy on the eyes." (Day) Dragon Age wiki

That’s like a saying a person who thinks someone looks nice means they are sexually attracted to that person. There's a difference between finding someone aesthetically pleasing and being sexually attracted to that person.

No no, you misunderstand. you flirt with Anders/Fenris/Isabella, his/here dialogue reacts to what you said. His/her expression changes to surprised interest or desire. you flirt with Merril, every time, she's like, "Oh you, being silly. Want some tea?" Tha'ts disinterest, a lack of understanding. It doesn't matter how many times you flirt or how hard you flirt, she doesn't get it. Alternatively, she doesn't want to. This complete lack of reciprocation made it shocking to me when she showed up at my mansion. I was completely floored. Then she's all teary eyed and "Hawke" and you bang. Then she's declaring her love for you. It was all so sudden, I couldn't muster up a single return of the feelings. The romance lacked so much reciprocation leading up to the culmination scene, I couldn't fathom myself ever being in love with her. IT's like if I were at work, and I got to know a guy well enough to throw some compliments along the way. And each time, he just smiled and changed the subject. FOR YEARS. Until one day he walks me out to my car and declares his undying love for me. Whoa. Whoa dude. Too fast.

True, with Merrill the sexual tension in the flirts not that clear, she rather embarrassed. And in Hawke's hause she behave really surprising. More than Isabela or Fenris (and Anders only appears there, if Hawke wants it). But this not means she didn't feel sexual interest, only she can't really communicate that – she quite embarassed sometimes in friendship too, and especially when Hawke meet with her first.

Second, I have to disagree with your description on how her flirts go. The flirt in Act 1 goes like that I agree, but in Act 2 her flirts in DA2 show she has developed a bit of attraction towards you, like her saying it is getting warm in here or when you say there is nobody sweeter than her she says "That's not true. I can think of someone." Granted these may just occur on the Friend path since I never do the Rivalry path.

I was just pointing out that it isn't inherently sexual attraction. It can go either way, and the way she says it leans towards platonic rather than sexual. Just like someone commenting on say a movie actor or actress as being good to look at could either be platonic or they are actually sexually attracted to them.

Meanwhile I relate rather well to her style of flirting since regular flirting doesn't make sense and makes me uncomfortable as well.

It's not hard to make INTERESTING attractive characters. But all in all, I've lost my faith in BW being able to deliver on this. Cassandra is a warrior, so she has to talk like a man and have a man's haircut? That's actually pretty sexist to me. Sera is a rogue, so she has to be super outlandish to point that no one gets her and most question her sanity? Lazy, amateurish writing. Josephine is a traditional disney princess? Let's give her a crooked nose because you know... that's character! Give me a break. Short hair isn't a 'man's haircut' FFS. Plenty of attractive women irl who wear their hair short. She's a warrior, it's just plain common sense to have short hair. I don't even know what you mean by 'talk like a man'. Also, attractiveness is subjective. I find Cass and Sera both attractive. I find generic, 'perfect' characters uncanny valley. Give me something convincing. I'm glad that's the direction they're going in now that they can add that extra detail to their characters. There are so many games out there already that have supermodels for their main cast, why should Bioware follow suit when it can be unique? If people can't stand thier pixels not being perfect they can go play Witcher 3.

They aren't making everyone ugly, that is such an over-dramatic thing to say. If that's how you see it, that just... sucks for you? It seems that plenty of us have had no problem finding our LI's attractive. So, tbh, that's not our problem, and not Bioware's problem either bc they can't just wave a magic wand and make everyone happy. If it really is such a huge issue that BW isn't catering to your specific tastes in attractiveness of a video game romantic partner, then choose a different game to fill that need?

Why does the idea of a traditionally attractive female bother you so much.

I romanced a Qunari with one eye, idgaf what my fictional characters look like I just want them to be interesting and unique. I don't even care if someone does care about it. I just think people should be honest and say they don't like short hair & would prefer a glamorous perfect female warrior with long hair and no scars despite that not making any logical sense, instead of making up some BS about short hair being 'a man's haircut'.

Are we talking about how ugly the Inquisition love interests were again? Splendid!
I'm gonna say it: I called them underwhelming in the looks department back then. All of them exept pretty boy Cullen (whom I didn't romance though). And I still think that. HOWEVER, the DAI companions are my favorite of the franchise and I actually grew to find Dorian pretty damn hot because personality does wonders for me to make a character attractive. My main concern is characters being well written. But if they are well written AND sexy, I do appreciate it

Well I think Samson and Blackwall are the hottest guys in the game so clearly my definition of sexy is just random as hell. I care more about my own characters appearance than whoever I will romance. Beauty and the beast is an amazing trope, as well.
The complete package matters more than one aspect. I still wouldn't like Dorian's romance if he was 100% my type.
