Nightscrawl Oh my gosh! I hope they do change hairstyles for Dorian that would be awesome. I thought Lel kept the bob but lost the little braid? it was actually a hairstyle option for the Warden too. Oh my gosh! I hope they do change hairstyles for Dorian that would be awesome. I thought Lel kept the bob but lost the little braid? it was actually a hairstyle option for the Warden too. Yeah, braid was gone in DAI, but she had the same style in DA2. In DAI, aside from the missing braid, it's essentially the same hair. If this were real life, I would fully expect her to have a different look 10 years later. The epilogue slides show Dorian with some different hair, but I put that down to artist vision, rather than a hint of what we're actually going to see. Sorry but you're wrong on this one, she's still got the braid, it's just less pronounced & a little harder to see, but still there. Just nabbed this from Trespasser for reference:

Absolutely not. Hated that on DA2, disliked it on Mass Effects after 1. They tried to keep "personality" in DA:I by making armors look different on the different companions, that works rather well if you ask me. So if they want to do that from now on, I'd like it. Game's more fun when you can share items with your companions and give them different armors and whatnot, otherwise it feels kinda dull.

Anything that decreases the need for inventory micromanagement is a-okay with me. This is my least favorite aspect of RPGs, and I've never understood why anybody thinks rummaging through menus sorting mostly junk items is fun.

If you think about it, it's actually quite easy to miss, she spends the majority of the base game with a hood up, the only time she doesn't is in WEWH & if she's your divine then she'll be in that garb in trespasser, thus making her braid very easy not to see, or completely forget about it.

Iconic casual clothing is great.
Armor pieces looking entirely different depending on who is wearing them is a nonsensical nuisance imho. Going through the process of trying pieces of armor on every character who could wear them to decide what to keep and what to give to each character was a royal pita for me.
I vastly prefer DAO's system, where any given piece of armor would look (essentially) the same on any character (gender differences aside).
I'm sure DAI's method was much easier for the devs. They developed maybe 2-3 different looks for each character model, then applied some minor tweaks to the meshes and textures to yield all of the permutations for these various looks. It's a lot more work to design an armor set and then create the meshes/textures needed to provide it for all of the various character body models (combinations of race/gender).
I also prefer that armors not be class-locked. This is another place where DAO's mechanics were vastly superior (again, imho). I could (and did) invest some points in strength so Leliana could wear medium armors, and with the arcane warrior spec, even a low-strength/high-magic Morrigan could wear massive armor by the end of the game. The fatigue penalties helped to offset some of that, and a dexterity penalty (when you put heavy stuff on a rogue, for example) could also help sort that.
Separating appearance from stats is useful, though. Anyone who has ever played an RPG has undoubtedly found themselves in the position of having to prioritize one over the other.
During my first playthrough of DAI, I never did find any armor I liked on my (female qunari warrior) Inky. Then I downloaded a save with all of the schematics and uploaded them for my golden nug. Started another playthrough, but never finished it.

No, I want a sense of visual progression with me, and my companions.
Let's say Vaea or Harding is a party member, by the end of the game, I want to look at them and the equipment they're wearing and say "Yep. That's a level 30 Rogue."
I also don't want to lose my power to dress everyone in plaidweave and bright pink armor, but I suppose that's less important.

I like the gameplay of upgrading armor, but I'd much rather keep their default looks or for armor to change based on their character development. Anders' outfit change in Act 3 was pretty cool.

Nope, I thought them having the same outfit for years on years (GET SHOES FENRIS KIRKWALL IS DISGUSTING) was dumb and immersion breaking, and I have a mod to alter that. I hate in in MEA too. I bought the packs for ME2 so it didn't bother me so much and ME3 everyone was in their uniform or they were an alien so what do I know, maybe turians DO wear their armor for 85% of their lives.
I understand why some people liked it in DA2, because it lent 'iconic' status to those outfits, but playing with my companions wardrobes adds replay value for me.

While I loved DAI's method, and spent hours designing my companion's armor, I think it's obvious it took a lot of resources away from creating different looks for our PC.
The main character's armor is pretty lackluster, especially when it comes down to race specific. I bet the decision to have multiple, morphing outfits for companions was made well before they decided to add in the other playable race options.
For DA4 if it comes down to more options for the PC or customizable armor for companions, they should choose PC.

They should have a distinct look that they keep, so basically DAI. It kind of depends what kind of role the protagonist plays. In DA2, you're not really the leader of anything. Your companions were not really subordinate to you and they had their own lives outside of the PC. In this sense, it made sense that the PC had no control over their wardrobe. I don't think we're going to end up being the leader for some organisation for DA4, so some of that "They are their own characters" element should come into play. The right level of player control over companions would be very important in establishing what kind of character the next PC will be.

I use only one mod in DA2: Anders romance armour.
1. He lives with Hawke, so in the Mansion, he doesn't wear his coat, because this is bullshit. He wears same "pyjama" like Hawke. 2. Hawke brought him some new stuff (wrist, for example).
Still his wear, but less hobo.
But I like that they have their own stuff... except Fenris barefoot... this lame even if a Dalish wears, but Fenris not even a Dalish...

In this sense, it made sense that the PC had no control over their wardrobe. This is interesting! I hadn't thought of the DA2 armor in this way before. However, I'd be more willing to accept it if the followers changed their own appearance for each act. In DA2, it just comes across as weird that everyone wears the exact same thing over seven years (playable time). The only person for whom it makes sense is Avaline since she wears the guard uniform.

I want to be able to change their armor but I want to be able to do it like they had it in Mass Effect 2 and 3. Two or three distinct looks that each character can have. The crafting armor in DAI can drive someone with OCD like myself insane.

I agree with you. Tho I didn't really get it back when I played DA2. (now I do ofc) I wanted to give my friends armors, like you can give presents in DAO, and then the game wouldn't let me. Loved it in DAI, as I could give everyone better armor, while they still looked like themselves and then tint it to make it more personal. *remembers the time she tinted Cole's whole armor in Ring Velvet because it made him look Fade-ish*

But that's just me /shrug That's why I prefer DAO's approach. That way both the companions and the protagonist have access to the same things. Ah, I remember the fond times when I would put Leliana's chantry robes on Morrigan to pretend that my Warden was disguising her in-universe as a chantry sister. I also liked having peasant and noble clothes because I would dress my party in those whenever I went to Denerim to blend in more. For example, Leliana would be dressed in the fancy clothes while my Warden would be posing as an elven servant and someone else as a bodyguard. It didn't matter to me that it didn't affect anything. It was just so much fun to incorporate into my roleplaying. While I liked the armor in Inquisition especially the Dalish armor, I second wanting more available styles. As soon as I could, I installed mods in Dragon Age 2 that allowed my Hawkes to wear companion armor or lookalikes if I decided it suited them. For immersive reasons, I disliked being stuck with Circle attire for my mage so I made her wear Bethany's clothes. I like the heavy, fur-lined robes but it was a challenge to immersion to have my Hawke run around in them when she was supposed to be an apostate staying low. I did headcanon that the Chantry donated the same kind of clothes that they make for the Circle to refugees to make it less jarring. I would especially like the patchwork style of clothing that Sera wears. Oh and scarves. Lots of scarves. I'd also love if they kept the ability to dye armor except I'd prefer if they made it independent from materials.

I like to be able to tweak my companions equipment, but I like it to have a character specific spin, so while DA2's system of upgrades was dull, DAI's worked well for me.
