I've been thinking about trying that Flamer+HM build on my GTS (although the vast majority of players opt out of one of them, depending what they're using this platform for). I can't agree with skipping HM ever, you can make up the shields with a Cyclonic. And then you can't take a Power Amp. My preference is to equip an Acolyte (because, LOLing aside, what strips shields more effectively?), lose HM, slap on a Power Amp, take the Geth Scanner and then toast all the things. The fact that I'm perpetually running short of Cyclonics informs my decision to skip HM. Mind you, on Platinum I do take a Cyclonic and skip HM. For soloing with this guy (with only the aforementioned an Acolyte in tow), I still skip HM (and take the Geth Scanner) because I find extra shields more useful than taking the increase in Power (i.e. Flamer) Damage. It's something of a case of 'horses for courses,' I suppose .

Wrong, wrong, wrong HM gives you much more than power damage. You will be fast, you can equip AC instead GS and 3 rockets more are critical and can make the difference. You will have even a faster recharge power times.3 points or 4 on fitness with full fortification makes him very strong and survivalble. As for CM and PAM,i will pick every time CM.With CM you will have much more shield and you can be much more agressive and you will kill much more stuff.GTS has from HM great power damge bonuses, which makes PAM unnecessary.

I skip flamer on my GTS - the power is a goddamn nuisance and broken when specced correctly. I only have it on my Vorcha Sentinel, which I have yet to complete 200 waves.
If I were to build the GTS for flamer, it would be a glass cannon either 66660 or 66653/65663 (or perhaps 65654, but I find it weird to omit 2 points), and I'd skip the Cyclonic and use the Power Amp (although Cyclonic will be better for some maps). Flamer's recharge should be much longer, but as is you don't need to worry about cooldown at all.
Hunter Mode should always have 6 ranks, unless it bothers your eyes I guess.

I can't agree with skipping HM ever, you can make up the shields with a Cyclonic. GTS with flamer build without HM is like sport car with a regular engine. Could you please share your builds for this guy? Because he's one of my favourite characters in the game, and I've been using a no-HM build till today, but it feels like it doesn't cut it anymore for me. They also suffer the hip fire penalty that sniper rifles get, so make sure to be scoped when using them. I'd skip them on a sniper build, but I like the Kishock on her so no damage penalty! Stickies are wonderful because they prime and detonate (if using elemental ammo) if you're able to stick an enemy. They're one of the highest damage dealing powers in the game too. I specced them because I wanted to have some oh-shit power that I could use against 'goons, but since they aren't as reliable unless fully specced, I don't really feel they are worth the points. They can be good, no doubt about that - when I do manage to land them on an enemy, they inflict some heavy damage, but more often than not I just happen to waste that precious time I could've been shooting or running away. It's just too much work for me. I haven't tried Kishock at all, so will give it a try the next time I play her. I skip a power on almost all Vanguards; Shockwave, Carnage, Lash, Poison Strike, Stasis are all skipped. I really have no idea what to do with Carnage if you choose not to skip it, because the cooldown is just terrible and destroys your rhythm of charging and meleeing/shooting. Pull might be useful for Guardians, but it feels like it might be much better to just mailslot them. like sport car with a regular engine Terrible offtopic, but... As a big car lover, I... I just can't with what's happening with the whole automobile industry now. Most of new cars look like household appliances, and feel like ones. Those that look like actual cars fail to impress either. And now they roll out a Supra which is a f-ing BMW Z4. That's such a low blow. So... Wrong. Just let me airlock myself. /rant mode off

I agree wholeheartedly. I put it in Kalence to check. Weapon is Cryo Acolyte with Power Mag and Heavy Barrel. GTS w/ Hunter Mode, CMIV: 2400 shields, 30% DR, 1271 Flamer damage per second vs armor, ACV so 9 missiles and more ammo ( nitrous , this is my build for plat/solos) GTS w/o HM, PAIV: 1650 shields, 40% DR, 1395 Flamer damage per second vs armor, GS so 6 missiles and no ammo

I skip flamer on my GTS - the power is a goddamn nuisance and broken when specced correctly. "Broken" meaning "too overpowered" or "not working properly"? Because to me it seems like it's toasting baddies just fine - Phantoms hate it, and that's the single most important thing to me. I've been thinking about doing something like these two builds. But what about investing just enough points in HM so that it would have the same range as Flamer? Sounds like a good idea to me - as soon as the enemy turns red, it's ready to BUUURN IN HELL.

He meant that flamer GTS is OP.In fact he is most OP character in the game or second after GI.DAI can be better than them on some maps, but overall as DPS, survivability and speed geths are the best.Inert hates everything which is OP as far as i know, but he will say.As for the build i will post it later, because i am in the gym right now.

Broken as in too effective. Keep in mind I prefer to play gold where flamer is plain unnecessary as I would consider it overpowered even for Platinum. It is a power that requires no skill to use. There is some skill in having good positioning and situational awareness, sure, but it's one of those "spray to win" abilities/weapons (see Reegar). In addition it can block the view of your teammates putting it right up there with Tactical Cloak as one of the most selfish powers to use. As muahmuah put it, flamer GTS is arguably one of the most powerful setups - but it is without a doubt the easiest kit to pour out DPS, hence the "easy mode Plat solo" youtube clips. You at least have to aim with the DAI/GI. I much prefer to grab a Carnifex and aim for heads, which works just fine on phantoms off host. Quick point: I judge kit selection very harshly, but ultimately people can play whatever they want. They're just wrong () if they prefer flamer/Reegar/TC/Grenade spam, etc. As for HM, the speed is just as important as the vision and unless you have crazy awareness, the added distance adds a ton to planning your positioning/staying alive. Six ranks, at all times.

Here is my build.Note that i don't use that character in team games and very rarely for solos(it's my equipment for solos).I didn't put specific weapon, because you can equip by your choice, but i will recommend Venom. With Venom and flamer you just need to push falmer button to win

Pretty much the only time I'll take GTS out is when I need to finish my Flamer mastery. I run the same build as muahmuah up there, but I use Acolyte with Power magnifier and PAIV. Hey, if you're gonna cheese it, might as well cheese it all the way Oh yeah, I carry GSMG as a side weapon, to cheese it even more with the glitch for bosses. With that build, you can do a 1.5 Flamer mastery in a single Gold game. I know, since I had it at about 50% and it was my last challenge for Tech Mastery. And before the game was finished, I finished it again It's pretty damn insane, actually. So yeah, I can see why people don't like him. I'm not a fan myself. But sometimes, Phantoms just deserve it

I like it when other people pick Demogirl or Shadow (even if they are annoying players) because I think their voices are so cute. I also am biased if either of these characters go down because I like their voices. I will prioritize picking them up over other characters. I know, I need help.

RoystonVasey63, muahmuah, inert, DistigousForest, thanks a lot for your advice! Looks like there's a lot for me to check out. If only those respec cards weren't Rare and didn't cost 20k credits... He meant that flamer GTS is OP Broken as in too effective Yeah, yeah, I get it. But the scrub I am, and with my manifest and consumables problems, I need characters like this one to be able to get creds - I can't perform decently with other kits on anything more difficult than Silver and occasionally Gold - and I highly depend on my teammates, while I can perform somewhat ok up to Plat and am able to somewhat solo Gold on GTS if I need to. I am willing to L2P and working hard on that, but I need some creds to git gud - and I need to git gut to get creds. Ugh. And yeah, sometimes those Phantoms do deserve to get toasted. And male teammates absolutely enjoy to listen to those moans, so I can't deny them the pleasure.

I thought I was awesome when I used a GI+Talon every match. This made me realize I didn't know (and still don't) how to deal with aggro. I also didn't prioritize headshots simply because I didn't need to. I regularly bring Common/Uncommon weapons into Gold and there are power kits that work well without having such an easy learning curve. Using these kits is far more classy. That said, you get a pass for the GTS but the sooner you chuck it out the airlock, the better off you will be.

If you use the same crutch kit all the time, you will git gud (but only with that kit). I'm not gonna judge crutch kits that harshly since the they can be a good entry way when you advance in difficulty. I have personally used the AIU a lot. It was nice not to have all the aggro dumped on me when I was already trying to cope with the faster pace and harder hitting enemies. My TL;DR point is that there are different interpretations of "git gud". Some people like to see how far they can take a certain kit and/or play style while others interpret git gud as versatility (being able to contribute to a match regardless of character and weapon).

At this point... I'm not really sure what crutch characters even are. I can guess, sure. TGI(with pretty much any rifle, though Carrier is obviously a golden standard), AIU(same as above with shotguns/Reegar), GTS/Acolyte)? I've played all of them. Still do occasionally. And yes, it's much easier to kill things with them, all the while staying alive. Well... the first two anyway, you at least have to work on "staying alive" part with GTS. Ok, so I guess I have a vague idea of what crutch characters are But for me... they are not crutch. As larsdt said, you spend a lot of time with one character, you're gonna git gut with them. For me that character is Valkyrie with Raider/Venom(either). I'm pretty damn good with pretty much any asari, both of them fat turians, any drell, Destroyer, both salarians, all vanilla hummies and a ton of other "underpowered" characters. The point I'm trying to make, I guess... you're gonna get git gut with what you learned to git gut with. I was lucky to stay away from crutches(and found BSN in time). But for me, crutch has an all different meaning that for most people around here.

That's exactly the point I'm making, though, I guess, I'm also doing a good job at hiding it. However, given that pugs represent majority of the playerbase(no statistical evidence here, just a hunch), it's also a, de facto, correct opinion. You, me and most, if not all people around here know better. However, we're in minority(again, just a hunch). Therefore, we are, in the eyes of the uneducated masses, wrong. No matter how many times you beat them(be it score wise, or any other way)... you cheated. You suck. Yo momma so fat. [insert inane reason here] I love the kits I mentioned. I'm sure you do too. But we're Galileo fighting Catholic church. You either admit you're wrong, or you die. And while the latter option may seem desirable... you still decide for the former in the end, if only for your own peace of the mind. And because you know that, no matter what, you're still in the right.

Well, I see crutches as a progression. You get good with the stuff that wrecks more easily first, but this can cause you to develop bad habits. If you're a good player, you force yourself to address these issues by using what would normally be perceived as weaker kits until you get good with those as well. In this sense every kit is a crutch, but GTS/TGI/AIU/Grenade spam are at the beginning of that progression. The sooner you airlock those kits, the better. FYI, nothing wrong with using them for solos, or agreed upon speed runs/theme games, etc. But take your Reegar AIU to a gold pug? For shame if you know better.

Accordiing to PUGs everythig except TGI,AIU or GTS is underpowered. Maybe PUGs perceive it as the end game. Once you git gud with your Infiltrator/Jugg Reegar/Harrier setup, there is nothing more to it. They are the "best" kits and seeing all other PUGs use these is just reinforcing that viewpoint. Some PUGs are simply just happy where they are at. They have no desire to explore other aspects of the game, like trying other kits or joining a community discussing said game. Or maybe it really is muahmuah cheating! How come I spend an hour more on doing a Plat solo and he consistently outscores me by a 100k when we team up ??? Surely, it has nothing to do with skill and experience

Oh, you've seen me in action, and my performance was very underwhelming to say the least - even for someone with 500h in game. Players don't git gud by using crutches. Although I can't help but agree with it. When you think about it properly, you realise that in this case you'll most probably only get good at using those crutches, still remaining unable to walk without them. That's not what I want. there are power kits that work well without having such an easy learning curve Does this happen to be true for almost any "non-crutch" kit? For instance, I know that all vanilla humans are really good, but you have to do more than just "press x to win" with them. Could you please share your favourites in this category? Some people like to see how far they can take a certain kit and/or play style while others interpret git gud as versatility (being able to contribute to a match regardless of character and weapon). I know quite a few players who would play only certain characters - and they're excellent at playing them, but they would simply refuse to take any other kit to the game because they can't get over that slump in their performance caused by using an unfamiliar kit. They would get annoyed, upset, may even quit the game to change the kit - you probably know how it works. Sure, there are some kits that are very hard to work with (like Volus Mercenary Sentinel, who is a total mystery to me - I really have no idea whatsoever on how to make him work), but I also believe that with some work and experience, one can make every single kit shine. It's just that I utterly lack skill for doing that. I'm not really sure what crutch characters even are. I can guess, sure. TGI(with pretty much any rifle, though Carrier is obviously a golden standard), AIU(same as above with shotguns/Reegar), GTS/Acolyte)? If I had to list them per class, I'd say most people would name Asari Adept (not the Justicar), N7 Demolisher/Cain-spamming Talon Engineers, GT/Jugg/Destroyer Soldiers, N7 Paladin/Krolord Sentinels, Geth/AIU/TG Infiltrators, and N7 Slayer/Kroguard Vanguards. This is basically all you get to see in Gold PUG lobbies. And sure there are also preferred weapons like Reegar, Harrier, Piranha, Black Widow, and Hurricane (and often that Acocane combo). The truth is, I suck at playing quite a few of them because I can't shoot well. You have at least to learn to shoot, and I haven't done even that. you force yourself to address these issues by using what would normally be perceived as weaker kits until you get good with those as well BTW, did this in a series of Plat games yesterday. Damn, that hurt. Haven't got that exhausted and disappointed since the very start. Luckily, my friends had my back.

Cryo Falcon Human Engineer, 66653, Hurricane sidearm. All three tech explosions, crowd control for days, use HVB on HurrDurr for bosses. Eagle Human Sentinel Throwslinger, Incendiary Ammo. So many FEs, Tech Armor for Phantoms, lulz galore. Talon Adept - I hate Acolyte, which is training wheels easy mode if you need credits. Singularity alone makes this kit OP. Human Soldier - AR + Claymoar = LOL
