I had crazy lag in pugs last evening. And one of the players complained he couldn't see any of us in game, just the mobs wit him (when we were actually standing right beside him) . So yes it seems there were lots of "working as intended" issues going on yesterday, even more than usual

I hosted a lobby on Threatening and managed to get a good team going. (MindtheArrows, Fexa....something...and...Nuaau? Maker I'm terrible with names. I should write them down). I hated to leave because people still wanted to play but I was getting pretty tired. It was fun.

Managed to promote my Hunter so now I'm at 10/12/14. Not...terrible for my first week, I guess? Now I just have to promote my warriors. I'm not as practiced with melee characters, maybe I'll make a private lobby to run around in so I don't embarrass myself.

I sympathise with the embarrassed part, particularly as I have just started playing in NM games. Last night my Avvar, who is quite robust in Perilous made several visits to the peaceful green camping ground. Luckily the rest of the team were very tolerant, and it did give me a chance to see the stats of the various opponent factions.

I found that the legionnaire was quite difficult to solo with though, as he is strong defensively, but seeing him try to kill enemies when you are at a low level is good preparation for watching paint dry. There seem to be many helpful and understanding players in DAMP, so making friends is highly recommended, and you will find that you promote more rapidly. That leads to more kills, which leads to faster promotion - a sort of virtuous circle.

Nah....you will do fine. Just as lcneed said, you just need to learn how to "attack cancel". This will make you do fast one hits - for your basic attack - with your big ole blade/maul/axe.

If you are using KB+M, hit the Shift key (sprint key), just as you are hitting the down swing part of the basic attack animation. If playing with a controller, click the left analog stick, again at the down swing part of the attack animation. This may take a few try to get the timing down, but you will get used to it pretty quickly. And even if you miss the timing, your no worse off than without the attack cancel. Enemy will still get a giant whack to the face.

And as far as Amund is concerned, once you get your levels into the early/mid teens, you should have the skills and passives, to spend most of the time using said skills (i.e. Hakkon Charge, Korth's Might, Crushing Leap, etc.....). Basic attacks won't be quite as necessary.

It basically cancels the after-contact weapon swing animation and allows you to start another swing quicker. It will stop any basic attack* at whatever point you hit shift. So it is beneficial to hit it right after contact is made. It is most effective for 1 and 2 handed warriors but I have heard some people even use it for dagger rogues although I have never found use of it for dagger rogues, bow rogues, or mages**

*There are a handful of abilities that can be sped up with attack cancel as well.

**You can cancel after the mage basic attack chain finisher where it launches a few attacks from the staff to restart the chain slightly faster.
