Lore? Imma love my Doom lore. Mentioning again good old DOOM 3, I remember watching those little videos they produced an how darker and darker the UAC facilities were getting the further you got, plus all the records on the scouting parties to Hell that always ended in disaster. Bringing back a decent cool story would be the tits.

Apparently Eternal will have single player DLC www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-will-have-have-singleplayer-dlc/That's good I think if it's gonna be something meaningful story wise, I hope it's not some "horde mode" or other bollocks like that, as fun as that can be, honestly it ain't worth to be put in a DLC most of the times imo.

Loved how the people from the 3rd playthrough were shitting their pants when Doomslayer was walking by them.

I actually like challenge modes and think the arcade mode in Doom 2016 was a pretty cool addition. Same with the challenge modes in Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior. I love to go back and see if I can top my own score. I mean let's face it, Doom is all about twitch action. They've done a good job so far with story, but story is not the focus here.

I love to go back and see if I can top my own score. I mean let's face it, Doom is all about twitch action. They've done a good job so far with story, but story is not the focus here. It can be cool as I've heard the free update DLC thing for Prey was (I haven't tried it myself, so can't speak from experience), but I honestly would like something with more substance on a DLC. Challenge modes could come from the get go or be added as an update. If your taking is more on the lines of the 2016 reboot, then I guess. I never wanted the game to become a Serious Sam (not that the franchise isn't fun), I liked how they tried to tell a story in 3, and in my opinion did a quite decent job. 2016s story was nowhere to be found, just excuses to kill npcs, which again it's fun, but it doesn't actually tell you anything. I guess it works better for the Doom marine (to be more on the lines of "fuck everything" and "ain't nobody got time for that" ), instead of a normal human guy like they it did in 3, which at times it felt more like a survival game. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but at least the new game looks like it'll have a bit more of context.

I mean let's face it, Doom is all about twitch action. It really isn't. It's just been memed as such for so long that everyone believes it. Doom had a story, it had lore. And it would've had more if not for the limits of the technology, and the design culture of the time (story in games? lol?). Clearly time has shown the importance of story in games. Doom 3 got with the times. Unfortunately for Doom 3, it was overshadowed by other games that did things better. Doom 2016 worked and mattered because modern games have sacrificed too much of the fun gameplay of shooters. It's an indictment of cover-based, regenerating health, linear shooters where your hand is held (or rather tightly gripped) from start to finish. Ironically, those games also fail story because it's usually cookie-cutter bland tripe. Games have evolved from simple arcade "shoot the pixels" to full cinematic, interactive experiences. Unfortunately they've started to slide too much into "cinematic" and have forgotten the interactive or "actually a game" core from whence they came (while also being drained of creativity on a story front). Doom 2016 (and now Doom Eternal) hopefully spearheads a shift back on track to a good balance of the two, but story needs to be properly re-sparked, not tossed aside with the skyboxes. Personally, the things I found most interesting about Doom 2016 were the lore bits and the Samuel Hayden character. I want to see what happens with that. I also dislike the full on nostalgia bender with the monster designs. The 2D pixels sprites don't really translate well to a realistic 3D model. I'd appreciate some more innovation in demon design. You can nod to the classic without trying to literally wrap it around a model. Finally, for a series that did evolve to pure twitch and little else, you want Quake.

Or it could be for boss battles only. That'd be lame as fuck. At least with the previous "special weapons" you could use them whenever. If they literally reduce it to a QTE, I'd rather take the Soul Cube.

They should've tossed it just for the final boss fight in 3, if anything so people wouldn't mind that much about how meh the mechanic was behind it.

In fact, I wonder if it will act like the berserker power up, only that it will have to recharge after using it (with upgrades that will improve it's cool down and how long it lasts later in the game).

I think it's gonna be perhaps a sword that you can only use to kill certain enemies, because perhaps they're immune to conventional weaponry. So maybe that boss fight, and some others you have to take out the sword and melee them to death, and it's not gonna be a thing you'll be using normally. Or it may indeed work perhaps like the power up or the chainsaw, maybe you find a "battery for the sword" at random in certain maps and you can use it for a limited amount of time/kills to murder some demons also.

In the little codex entries in 2016, it was hinted that the Slayer had a sword at some point *Puts on tin foil hat* What if, after being sent back to Hell by Hayden in the previous game, the Slayer gets his way back to the Wretch, the being who gave him his armor and powers, and gets a few upgrades and his old sword back. When the UAC fucks up, yet again, he comes back all decked out and ready to do what he does best.
Just a thought.
