There wasn't a thread for this, surprisingly. Now there is. Grab your shotgun and your BFG and bring all your Doomy Dooms of Doom here. Also Doom 3 > Doom (2016). Come at me bros.

Hmmmm... I vaguely remember playing one of the older titles as a kid I think. Anyway, played the last one, it was satisfying, but overall I'd rate it "okay", pure FPS is just not my cup of tea. The music is amazing though. Yeah, pretty much. The reboot is essentially a "shoot and run" type of game, like Serious Sam. Now, not saying it's not fun, just that I expected an actual story. The story was fairly good imo in 3, can't talk about the older titles since I've only ever played a demo of Doom 1 a million years ago, but 3 did it right I think. Then again, what more is there to tell? I've never played the expansion of 3, but I think that going over and over with the same premise gets old. They could do some sort of spinoff perhaps, like showing the early expeditions to Hell and what not, I dunno.

DOOM is love, DOOM is life. The 2016 game is one of my most favorite games of all time, and the originals are so satisfying to play.
However, its funny that this thread came up, as just yesterday I read where they're thinking about having another go at a DOOM movie.

Nah, bait implies provocation with no substance. I can back the claim though.
Doom 3 was the natural evolution of the franchise, and what id tried to make back in the day (but couldn't due to technical limitations). Sadly it was also overshadowed at the time by the true master game Half-Life 2, and by FEAR in terms of the horror aspects.
Doom 2016 on the other hand is part nostalgia wank, part either memetic bastardization of what people "think" Doom is, or at the very least, gross overstatement of a single aspect of it. Still a very good game though, and one that's needed in today's age of handholding shooter set-piece/skybox viewers. I'd say Doom 2016's impact is more necessary for the genre, than for the fans.

I agree on that. Doom 3 was actually fairly good, and 2016 vs 3 is like Fallout NV vs FO4 type of comparisons. Sure 2016 has great fun mechanics, but the story is nowhere to be found. Game is super fun, just wish it had a background. Here's hoping they reconsider for the next installment. And I completely forgot about HL2, it came in november of 2004, a couple of months later. But back then we didn't have many games per year, and HL2 was also a shooter, it was the pinnacle of the technology available and it surpassed D3 in pretty much every aspect if we go one to one. Obviously the 2 games are different, but still.

I will say this: the things I unreservedly enjoyed about the new Doom have nothing to do with what it's normally praised for. And I'm actually talking about what little hints of story/background lore they do sprinkle, namely the idea of mining Hell for energy and how that all goes about. And Samuel Hayden. That guy is boss and written perfectly, with an almost Valve-like level of subtlety.

The Doof and Goof in the latest game was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Coop was interesting and fun, some of the maps were hilarious (Mr Torgue-level explosions!). Didn't try the pvp as I played the game so long after release I'd heard it was full of leet players and I'd get my arse handed to me.
I remember playing one of the levels on the original where the walls lifted amd the room is FULL of demons. Aah the PS1 😁 I had an invincibility cheat on and just punched the whole room to death 😆

The story in the Doom reboot was entirely appropriate and actually well written imo. Meant to embrace the absurdity, add humor but take a back seat to arcade action. I may not be an FPS expert but I think it's one of the best out there for run and gun shooting. The melee finishers are brilliant and add nice momentum to risk taking. My only complaints are it did get a bit repetitive, which is to be expected for that kind of game, and the weaponry was run of the mill. Compared to SW2's arsenal it was downright conventional. Also, id was excellent with their post release support. I can't wait to see what they do next.

This is bizarre. Doom 2016... is it even 2 years old? and they're getting another out? I mean, it looked like a standalone DLC kind of thing, about same graphics and what not. But this is literally the last thing I was expecting, alongside the Wolfenstein 2 DLC.

At least it looks like it will take the same route as the 2016 game did: revolving around the same focus and 'story' of the original games. With any luck the final boss will be that towering super-demon they wanted to do in the OG Doom 2. Was not expecting to see this last night.

I took a quick walk by Reddit and found a couple cool things. - The Super Shotgun appears to have a bayonet attached to it: - A discussion about the Doom Slayer's new armor brought up a potential plot point for the game: In the 2016 game, Hayden, the cyborg in charge of the UAC facility, implanted a 'tether' to the Doom Slayer's armor. This allowed him to travel back and forth between dimensions, and was ultimately used by Hayden to send the Doom Slayer back to Hell after betraying him at the very end of the game. The Doom Slayer probably ditches his armor and replaces it at the start of Doom Eternal, knowing full well that Hayden can simply send him to another dimension should he return. Just a couple things I found interesting.

The mother f**king Doomslayer Of course! Why do you think he could win? Just curious. Let's see... Doomslayer slaughtered the Legions of Hell by himself for thousands if not millions of years. Killed Hell's mightiest champion, The Titan, with nothing more than a sword and his hatred of daemons. Was given powers by the Seraphim that augment his strength and speed. Wears the Praetor Suit, armour that was forged in Hell and is indestructible. Knows how to use any type of weapon he comes across. Here's more in case I forgot anything: doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_Slayer

If Shepard has better gear and immaculate combat prowess, he might have a 50-50 chance against him.
