Missing two important names: Socrates and Thomas Paine. Those would get my vote of course!

I like how you can select up to 20 answers. Do people have 20 favorite philosophers?

Missing two important names: Socrates and Thomas Paine. Those would get my vote of course! Add one to that... 2 more if Nikola Tesla & Sun Tsu were added. I like how you can select up to 20 answers. Do people have 20 favorite philosophers? I have 3. None of which are on there.

I've got The Art of War and The Book of 5 Rings on my bookshelf and read them nearly annually.

Putting Tzu & Tesla opens the pandora box to every great scientist and military strategist in history. They're for another thread and poll tbh. I actually consider get ridding of mainly economists too.

Spengler's evaluation of German philosophers and his realism, historical thinking and destiny idea, from one of his essays/articles. I like this compilation very much (could have done it more professionally tho, but the content I mean)! Trigger Warning: He does not worship Nietzsche or Schopenhauer! Also it seems I need to change the poll soon or angry mob will execute me by guillotine or something!

Also it seems I need to change the poll soon or angry mob will execute me by guillotine or something!I long refused to vote. I was uncomfortable with the candidates. Both because it includes people I would certainly NEVER vote for, and because people like Giordano Bruno, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Bertrand Russel, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Konrad Zuse, Kurt Goedel, Robert Piersig, Edward Lorenz,.. all of them people who have been the pioneers of some pretty damn fundamental ideas of how we view existence and knowledge, are missing. Where's Mussolini? You have Marx, Foucault there, but not Hitler, Mao, Son Sen or Pol Pot? Surely, Mussolini, Mao and Pol Pot are more ' historically important' philosophers than most . Yes, I know it's supposed to be a popularity vote, but if Derrida can get votes, then surely can Mussolini. And we both already know that Hitler is supposed to be popular now. Look, I don't really want to bug you about the list and the candidates. I know how impossible such a task is. And finally I did vote. Descartes, Hume and Locke.

Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed. A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed!
