Does Mass Effect appeal to the male fantasy?

Also, Grunt's not the smartest tool in the toolbox.

Outside of Citadel DLC, which was over the top comedy hour, I never felt that Grunt acted particularly stupidly. If we include Citadel in our views of the characters, everyone becomes hard to take seriously.

Well true on the Venom part, Also One of Venom's strength is that he is able to retain advantages from previous hosts. Brain flashes, no matter how good they are, are limiting in scope. Subtext with Grunt and Shepard, is that Shepard is supposed to be his battlemaster or combat teacher to further his combat training. Even Shepard and Grunt haven't encounter a Symbiote like Venom within Mass Effect galaxy. Also Venom is smart enough due to his time with Flash to develop his gun skills. For time, Flash and Venom were a team and Flash had military training. So by the time of Mass Effect, Venom would have developed the skills and combat experience from various hosts to counter Grunt.

All games are power fantasies besides survival-horror and games which intentionally invert the medium so to speak by stripping you of power/agency/dignity like spec ops the line which non-coincidently tend to be niche titles.
