If the original trilogy was remastered how would you approach the romances?

Nothing. The Kaidan/male Shepard arc is my favorite in any video game ever.

Eh.  Seems more like shortchanging us, especially when we've heard bullshit like "it doesn't make sense" in terms of certain characters being romanceable. (This was stated to be something true in MEA.)  No more telling us what makes sense for us.  They don't have a clue.

In the remaster, Liara will be the default romance for Shepard throughout the trilogy and you'll have to jump through hoops to romance anyone else.  Romanced Ash in ME1?  You'll have default Liara in ME2.  Romanced Miranda in ME2?  You'll have default Liara in ME3.  BioWare will want to make extra certain that we understand just how important Liara is.  That's why she even got a mention in MEA.

I would add a mission to find a cure for Thane, so to not have his death mandatory. You do the mission/make a choice there, he doesn't die in the Kay Lang fight, but is just hurt (since he would have still been recovering so not at his 100%. You don't do the mission/keep the cure, Thane dies.

I would add some more moments with Garrus in ME1 and ME2.

I would make mandatory Jacod death to not have his squallid betrayal in ME3.

And Vega would be a true romance option. Possibly BI, but I would just be happy getting rid of the creepy scene in Citadel. Or at least not having to get him drunk.

Male Shep can romance a whole lot of human ladies but FemShep has to resort to primarily aliens or other ladies.

I'm honestly torn on making Kaidan romanceable for both genders in the first game. On the one hand, yeah, extra content, but they would also have to go in and add extra scenes to actually get to that point, like a threeway conflict, which is reportedly one of the things that kept them from adding it back then. Of course, if they're going to be adding extra dialogue anyway, then this isn't a problem. On the other hand, building up over three games really did feel like something special that made Kaidan's m/m romance stand out from the f/m version. Though maybe I'm just biased because I was with the series from the beginning.


Change Jacob's storyline in the third game to remove him cheating. It's fine if he gets with Brynn if he was single to begin with, but if he's with Shepard it should at least play out similarly to Jack.


Give Thane a lock-in of his own, and basically give us a chance to actually see that Shepard is mourning him too much to move on.


Make James legitimately romanceable so that FemShep has at least one guaranteed straight option. Also, removing that disgusting sequence from the Citadel DLC.

If the player romances Kaidan or Ashley, even if they wait for the third game, give them the option to call Liara out on leaving Kaidan/Ashley in the dark.

It can always be changed in "I would make mandatory for Jacod to keep his pants closed and not impregnate another woman if in a romance with Shepard"
