No real preference as long as they're interesting to interact with. I think Calpernia is a given. Harding or Charter possibly...I'd pick Charter just because I feel I already know everything I need to know about Harding. Any returning companions would probably be as cameos or quest-givers...those I could see: Dorian, Iron Bull, Sera, and maybe Cole. Though if none return I'm good with that too.

Am I the only one who would love to see the return of Aveline? Aveline was one of my favourite companions from all of the Dragon Age series, also if Fenris made an appearance I would be very happy. I love Aveline, but she'd need a very good reason to leave Kirkwall. She's built her home there, and her friends are there. I'd rather just let her be happy with her career and husband. Fenris is possible I think, but like the rest of the Kirkwall gang I just want to let him stay happy there. |

Can't help but wonder if some of the MP characters will returns as either NPC's or party members, they've already got a background in the game & they could easily be worked into DA4

Sorry that would be very unlikely and Strange to have Aveline in DA 4.
Fenris on the other Hand. Well i would say the normal Fenris isn´t Mandatory for DA 4 but Slave Fenris is. Don´t get me Wrong but i would be very surprised and disappointed if we don´t get Fenris & Master Danarius Scene in DA 4. Bioware have to do this. Even if i would likely see this Scene on Youtube (FluffyNinjaLlama)
But it would be a Waste to have a Frostbyte Fenris Charactermodel just for a Slave Fenris therefore
i could imagine that we will see the normal Fenris with Solas.
Just kidding. 
Fenris is of course with the Fog Warriors.

So because i like to bring things up again. Warrior 1. Valta Isn´t the whole appeal of Valta that she is more of the dwarven mage than a warrior? Regardless i don´t think that we will see Valta as companion. I mean she is pretty proud to be non surface dwarf so why should follow the DAD hero on the surface? And last but not least a personal reason i don´t like idea that dwarves can also can be mages.

It´s time for an update: Grey Warden Davrin (human male?) and female dwarven rogue Rook (new name for Bellara? are appearing to be companions in DAD. I highly doubt that this will change at this point maybe names or gender could change but i think both are set in stone. So what does this mean? Well first unfortunately another Grey Warden companion.  Second the female dwarven rogue in short Rook means no Harding  , Bianca or even female dwarven warriors like Valta Rook is DAD female dwarven companion. Does this mean no other dwarven companion? Well not another female but a male dwarf as warrior (and theoretical a dwarven male as mage but this dumb and i pretty much despise it) is still possible. But Varric is out because after 3 games i think we can rule out that we have two dwarven rogues in the party. And last but definitively not least i believe that both Davrin and Rook can be romanced. |

This is just pure speculation but i think that Rook is the new name for Bellara (who doesn´t that dwarven to me or Rook is her last name) voiced by Jee Young Han. By the way i disagree with people who say that Rook could be a placeholder and there could be still hope for Harding. Guys / Gals it´s over.
Too bad that the leaker hadn´t made one screenshot of the companion menu.

While if this leak is accurate it certainly seems to confirm that Davrin and Rook/Bellara are companions we can't be sure whether they're full companions or temporary companions ala Mahairi, Daveth, ser jory, Bethany, Tallis and the many temp companions for all the origins in dao. I doubt that Bioware would have cast Ike Amadi (Javik) that early. Correct me if i am wrong but aren´t companions the first who having been casted because of their countless dialogues? You would think so but if someone dropped out late on, because of the delays in developing the game, they could have been a late recruit. So the companion was always planned but they had to use a different VA. I'm pretty sure Davrin is going to end up a companion but the person behind the leak said that they thought the other person was a placeholder. Either they are going to be a temporary companion, who likely gets killed, or they are not going to be a Grey Warden dwarf companion, or they will be replaced by one of our other companions in the final version.
I cannot see them making two companions Grey Wardens, even if they gave them completely different back stories. Nor do I think Rook is another name for Bellara. I think we will encounter her elsewhere, quite possibly as a dwarf, in which case I'm hoping she is from Kal-Sharok, because that would make her entirely different from any previous dwarf we have encountered. Or she may not be a dwarf at all but a perky human female from somewhere else entirely.

I'm pretty sure Davrin is going to end up a companion but the person behind the leak said that they thought the other person was a placeholder. Either they are going to be a temporary companion, who likely gets killed, or they are not going to be a Grey Warden dwarf companion, or they will be replaced by one of our other companions in the final version.
I cannot see them making two companions Grey Wardens, even if they gave them completely different back stories. Nor do I think Rook is another name for Bellara. I think we will encounter her elsewhere, quite possibly as a dwarf, in which case I'm hoping she is from Kal-Sharok, because that would make her entirely different from any previous dwarf we have encountered. Or she may not be a dwarf at all but a perky human female from somewhere else entirely. Could be temp companion because i agree that DAD only has one main grey warden companion and right now this has to be Davrin. But speaking of temp companions after DA2 and DAI it doesn´t seem that likely that Bioware waste resources in temp companions. Could be wrong but i think that the female dwarven rogue is one of our main ones. Which means if we follow the previous rules Varric has no chance to return as companion because there is already a dwarven rogue. Doesn´t mean that we can´t get a male dwarven warrior like in Awakening which had Oghren and Sigrun.
Too bad that the leaker didn´t made a pic of companions menu if they even had access to it.

It is possible that the dwarf companion was Harding but not named as such and was not technically a companion but an additional squad member, like Morrigan, or like Valta and her friend in the Descent. I think they said they understood it should be possible to assign actions to the companions but it was shut off in the demo, so perhaps they just assumed she was a companion and there was no way of verifying it. (They also thought the Grey Warden appearance could have just been a placeholder). I would like to think it rules out Varric as an actual companion but await actual verification when they get around to releasing more detail about squad members.

I doubt that Bioware would have cast Ike Amadi (Javik) that early. Correct me if i am wrong but aren´t companions the first who having been casted because of their countless dialogues? You would think so but if someone dropped out late on, because of the delays in developing the game, they could have been a late recruit. So the companion was always planned but they had to use a different VA. Basically, same deal as at Vigil's Keep where the suppliers, servants, masonry workers etc. were just normal people who were employed by the Grey Wardens.
It would be funny if it turns out that Rook is really just a very short little-person human. In a world where dwarves are a fantasy race, it's the one theory nobody would consider.

It's been suggested by a few people on the forum that Rook could actually be the name of the player character? That was my personal opinion, as well. However, they went to great lengths to blur the name on the character inventory screen, etc. So I am not sure if it's mere sloppiness or just someone else.
