Let me have an undead librarian for a companion. His love of learning could be the reason we recruit him because he already knows some things and has the curiosity to discover more. I do get the feeling that access to ancient information could be important in countering Solas. Exactly. He was shown to be really knowledgeable about architecture (including when some patterns came into fashion, how old some things were, when certain metals started to be used in this or that way) which is one of the reasons I think it would make sense if he was one of the companions. Okay, I get where you coming from on this but, let's face it, there are some strange people out there who would take it to creepy levels if he was a romance. Best just to stick with devoted friend for describing our relationship with him. Counterpoint: strange people are going to take anything to creepy levels - that's why we consider what they are doing to be creepy, rarely the story itself (unless it's encouraging or validating it in some way - example include: Star Wars' Reylo) In the Old Republic - another Bioware game - there's a companion to the Sith Warrior: her name was Vette and she starts out as a slave to the Sith Warrior character. She's also a romance option and for her romance to become available, she must have been freed beforehand (which you can do as soon as she is given to you) and it must be within a certain frame of time. Because she starts out a slave or has slavery as a background, some people get fucking creepy and quite frankly, really disturbed about her character. Examples include wanting her to be "romanceable" without freeing her. Their behavior has nothing to do with the character or romance - it has to do with the fact that they are creeps and the way they are dealt with is not by shackling creative freedom and taking away something whole and fun, but by shunning the creeps socially. Seriously, Vette is one of the best and most adorable romances in the game. Second example: Tevinter slavery where some people (unknowingly, in some cases) end up using real-life slavery apologia in their arguments about how slavery totally isn't evil and it's moral grey, guys! It doesn't matter how much the Dragon Age games hammer home that slavery is bad; these people don't listen and in some cases, they are doing it in direct response to this "black-and-white" morality. Yes, there are probably some people who are going to take it to creepy levels, but that's a problem with them and we'd be shunning them anyway.

How are you gonna top that last one? I'll tell you: an undead skeleton librarian who's magically on fire. That's how. That's how you push the envelope. It's not obligatory to out do our previous experiences. Also, I would point out that there was nothing really weird about Solas when we were actually romancing him. As a player I was highly suspicious of his humble apostate guise but our PC would just see him as a bald headed elf. Granted his liking for laying around in ruins and communing with spirits there was a little odd but we never actually saw him doing this. Sure, it's not weird until you discover the deep, dark secret, but you're going to discover it. It's still there. Just well-hidden. Although in Solas' case, he really was telegraphing it hard - it's one of the funny things you notice on the second playthrough. I choose Solas as the romance because he and my character seemed to have a lot in common about spirits and lore and it was a nice, normal thing and then BAM! It turns out she was unknowingly dating the elf equivalent of Satan. It was hilarious. Now when Audric originally became an undead person his body was only just deceased, so presumably he wouldn't look too odd and the spirit ought to have been able to preserve it in the same state. Justice's body wasn't so good because the person it belonged to had died some days/weeks before he took up residence, so had already begun to decompose. By contrast, when the spirit saved Wynne from dying, it presumably preserved her at that stage of her aging process. However, if the glowing skeleton head is Audric, then this is something wholly outside our previous experience because he continued on even though the flesh had disintegrated, which is strange because I thought the Necromancers of Nevarra mummified the bodies of the dead in order to preserve them. Still, whether romancing a skeleton or a mummified body, that is weirdness taken to a new level and then some. Audric's a bit of an outlier because he sort of spontaneously became undead. Basically, after he died, he just woke up and went back to work the next day, never even realizing that he had been dead. He wasn't raised by anyone or by anything specific - it was just a thing that sometime happens and in his case, it was one of the even rarer cases because he's a "higher undead" who's basically the same person he was in life (once he gets his mind sorted out and balanced) When I first started wondering if he was veilfire guy, I remembered that it's implied that he hadn't even been buried yet, so he hasn't gone through any preservations for his burial (because you're right, the short story specifically mentions how they prepare the dead) and the story doesn't say whether being undead means he wont' decay or not. It's entirely possible that, between the short story and the game, he's basically become a skeleton on fire (then again, he wasn't on fire in the story either so, unless it's a way to preserve himself or just what he looks like beneath the skin because he's kinda spirit, it's possible he had one hell of an accident prior to the game) Also, the necromancer also briefly goes into how "higher undead" like Audric falls into a bit of an empty area because nobody's really figured out if those kind of undeads are just spirits so good at mimicking that they think they're the person and can act the part to a T or if they're actually the soul of the dead person still inhabiting their dead body. In Audric's case, the former theory involves him being a spirit of curiousity while the latter has him use curiousity as his driving passion to prevent him from turning into something bad and to help him remain a whole person instead of becoming something that personifies a specific thing. Naturally, Audric insists that he's himself. It's a really interesting expansion on what we know about spirits and kind of a continuation of the whole Justina-or-Spirit-of-Faith in the Fade thing that happened in DAI. I really hope he is a companion because it'd be interesting to see his deal in "practice." (The necromancer also has a undead manservant who is a "clean-boned" skeleton who is capable of some level of independent thinking. His name is Manfred btw) It is not the same as romancing a vampire because they still look human but with a rather pale complexion and a big toothy smile (usually just before they go for your neck). There is a reason why people find them sexy and it is not because they look like death warmed up. That's the thing: it is the same thing because vampires are dead corpses. A vampire is just as dead as Audric Felhausen is: the only differenc is visual. Like Audric, they are undead and like him, they are sapient. Vampires are the most well-known example of acceptable necrophilia in fiction (but again, an Audric romance would specifically not involve a sexual attraction)

I don't expect BioWare to make Mr. Skeleton Guy a romance because they are cowards but nothing is actually stopping them.
Really? Not even Fox News?!?
So no Necrophilia. But speaking of "taboo" romance but why not instead romance who is much (and not a familymember of course) older than playercharacter? But maybe this is too french...

Really? Not even Fox News?!? Yeah, I learned about this while playing the Legendary edition. I wish they hadn't given in to the Fox News outrage, especially since the Mass Effect 1 interview clearly showed thast the Fox News' representatives hadn't even bothered to play the game (the bioware rep seriously asked them straight-up and they said no) and was blatantly lying to make Bioware look bad (good on the people who spammed the review page for the host's book with fake reviews until she apologized) It was a great example of why you shouldn't bother to pander to bigots. So no Necrophilia. But speaking of "taboo" romance but why not instead romance who is much (and not a familymember of course) older than playercharacter? But maybe this is too french... Already had that with Blackwall (likely forty) and Solas (early-to-mid forties) since the Inquisitor was envisioned to be between twenty and forty.

Spoilers for Dragon Age Absolution: Rezaren keeps his dead slave bodyguard/childhood playmate "fresh" years after his death by keeping his body possessed by a demon. So barring injury Audric probably looks fine.

I finally figured out why I thought the Davrin-is-a-black-elf theory predated the gameplay leak. Here's a sword-wielding black elf wearing what could be a Grey Warden chest piece. It's from the behind-the-scenes trailer from 2020. In that same trailer, you also see Davrin's voice actor Ike Amadi record lines ("Nobody dies on my watch!")

It turns out she was unknowingly dating the elf equivalent of Satan. It was hilarious. I'd say tragic more than hilarious. Funnily enough, when I was saying how great Solas was to my daughter, whilst still on my first play through, so had not yet discovered the ugly truth, her response was: "Really? I find him creepy". So, I guess it really is a subjective thing, or she just has better female intuition than me. I mean, claiming to enjoy hanging out in ruins communing with spirits is a bit strange.

That is presumably something they would explore further if he was a companion, although there would be a degree of crossover with the Cole plot. He was a spirit that was able to take on a mortal form that mimicked a dead human and we could reinforce his identity to make him more human and grounded in the world. If we choose to do the latter, he does end up forming a relationship with Maryden. Now I seem to recall people saying how they would like the opportunity to romance a spirit, so this could be the way they introduce that option, reinforcing the spirit aspect by making him/her (it is not obvious the figure is male) look more otherworldly than Cole. So, the important aspect is not the undead part but the fact they are closely aligned with the spirit world. This could prove important when it comes to dealing with the Dread Wolf. When many spirits seem to have been recruited to his side, it would be helpful to have a spirit that identifies strongly with mortals, even to the extent of being in a romance with one. It would be a reversal of the Solas romance, where he rejected his love in order to pursue his goal. Glowing head is loyal to his/her love and is committed to saving them and their world.

Okay, Jee Young Han voices a character named Bellara and I think I might have found her in a gameplay leak screenshot that I happened to come across today. (You'll have to zoom in to get a better look at her face) If you look at the left side, there's a character wearing a red scarf around her waist and has her hair in a black bun. It's hard to tell, but I think she looks asian and I realized she may actually be Bellara (I was subscribing to the theory that Bellara was either a dwarf or a qunari, but it could just as easily be an elf name) Of course, this may be a complete coincidence since Jee Young Han is not necessarily voicing an asian character, so this may just be a background NPC, but I thought it worth a mention. Also, the person next to her might be a qunari woman as she appears to have horns and she is taller than the man beside her and "Bellara." Note that her feet has sunk into the ground just like theirs, so she is meant to be taller than them.

I hadn't looked closely at these figures before because in one of the analysis videos someone had said they were likely placeholders at that stage of development. However, surely placeholders would be pretty generic figures, not having specific racial features? The presence of a qunari figure would definitely suggest that this does represent a gathering of our companions. So, even if the final design changes, you could be right about the identity of the "Asian looking" figure. I wouldn't read too much into the ears though. If, as I am hoping, Bellara is a dwarf from Kal-Sharok, they are said to look different from the others we have encountered, which could include different shaped ears. In fact, they could even have gone with an "Asian look" for Kal-Sharok dwarves generally. Alternatively, if Bellara is not a dwarf but an elf, could she be a Veil Jumper? The main thing mitigating against this idea is that allegedly our companions were meant to be located at a remote hub if not being used on a mission, so if the party already consists of Rook (PC), Davrin and one other, possibly a dwarf, and there are only 3 people on a mission, what would other "spare" companions be doing there? However, there seems some doubt about the original assertion of a 3 person party, as other sources say it is the usual Hero+3 we have been used to. In which case, the party for this mission could comprise Rook (PC), Davrin (elf?), Bellara (dwarf?) and the one other (qunari female?). Then the reason not all were involved in the game play action is that one or more of them was sent ahead by Rook to take some action whilst they dealt with the darkspawn. It would be good if this were true.

While it doesn't make sense for all your companions to be there from a gameplay perspective (from what is alleged), they could be there for a story related reason.
Rook could send a message to base asking for support. The other companions would show up and hold the door while Rook and their chosen squad go capture the dragon or whatever. The non-squad companions would effectively be NPCs for that scenario.

Or maybe (to be fair unlikely) those are here for intern joke. Who knows and to be honest i don´t care nor do i want waste any thought in this. This scene is clearly not ready so who knows much of this is really in the game.
There is also a reddit thread about a similiar topic and let me quote this from kapporoth: "I wouldn't hold my breath for that based on a blurred and poorly lit pre-alpha footage. It reminds me of how people speculated that Merrill would be there in DA:I as a cameo because there was some NPC wearing what looked like Merrill's outfit on some screenshot (IIRC there's one in Crestwood, and you can get the schematics later in the game)." https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/1129je0/spoilers_all_leak_a_little_detail_from_one_of_the/

The female qunari could just be a Grey Warden NPC. We know they recruit from all races. Could be or could be a female Qunari who is in placed in the final game somewhere else. Do you remember the early Dragon Age pics? Besides "Ostagar" setting (and they reused because it looked impressive) nothing is in the final game.

Regardless of why the female qunari is in the scene - does her outfit look mage robey to anyone else?
Also her collar/necklace and her belt look very gold, to be fair that could just be placeholder colouring (or even a placeholder outfit), but it could also maybe indicate a Lord of Fortune?

Regardless of why the female qunari is in the scene - does her outfit look mage robey to anyone else? It depends on her origins. The one shown in other concept art looks definitely to be dressed more like a rogue. However, there is no reason why a rogue shouldn't have flowing robes if that is associated with her culture. We haven't really encountered any natives of Rivain, for example, who are dressed in traditional outfits. Isabella had already rejected her culture and besides her mother was a qunari covert, so would not necessarily have worn native clothing but that required by the Qun. Likewise, a Tal'Vashoth/Vashoth from Seheron if they had gone fully native and been adopted into the culture of the Fog People. I still hold out hope for a Fog Warrior or Fog Dancer to feature among our companions.

I took the fair haired emoji to simply indicate an elf, with the brown swatch to indicate that they actually had dark skin. I think anyone suggesting a white haired, dark skinned elf was really wishful thinking that they would resemble Drizzt from Forgotten Realms.

I think it's one of the Dellamortes - either Lucanis or Illario. I suspect Viago might make an appearance in DA:D, but I don't think he'll be a companion. It feels like the Dellamorte cousins have been "set up" to be companions (ex. Illario embraces being a Crow, resents his grandmother's favoritism and mourns his cousin Lucanis who he thinks is dead, but may actually have just gone underground because he wanted to make a clean break from being a Crow) Viago seems more set up to be an NPC by comparison.

A thought, after reading the new issue of 'The Missing' (issue 2)... Our Rogue friend here on the left may be Viago? Albeit with longer hair. Viago seems more set up to be an NPC by comparison. They would also need to kill off Teia for him to be a romance, since they became an item in Tevinter Nights and now seem to do everything together. Viago is more of a poisoner as well. PW told us not to read too much into the concept art since line ups could change over time but if that character on the left is a companion I think it most likely would be Lucanis, who faked his own death, that was being mourned in the short story in 2021.

It could be Viago and still he’s a NPC instead of a companion. Remember if leaks are to be believed we’re losing a companion slot in our party for important NPCs to take during a mission. It could be concept art of his.
Don’t think it is him, but still a possibility. I mean he’s not even in the newly established Crow uniform (if anything the blonde woman is a Crow).

I suppose that is a possibility, although I actually find it hard to believe they would do this for every mission. Likely it was just a feature of that particular bit of game play. I also feel that Viago has never been presented as a pugilist but more a subtle, shady character who uses poison to assassinate rather than direct attacks. He could have poisoned daggers I suppose but I really think that if that person is included, either as a companion or an accompanying NPC, it is not Viago. More likely he would be the contact who gives us the quest.
