Companions Lineup for Veilguard

Yes, but my PC was human because we weren't given any race options in DA2. So Merrill doesn't really count when it comes to giving my male elf PC the option of an elf romance. I'm sure my Warden would have loved to have romanced Merrill, particularly my Dalish Warden as he had grown up with her.

My male Lavellan didn't even get the option of a gay elf romance as I had with Zevran. Sera really got on my nerves with her anti-elf rhetoric, so she wouldn't have been an option even if she hadn't been a lesbian as she didn't want to be an elf, so might just as well have been human. Even the game seemed to recognise this as I believe I'm right in saying she couldn't wear specifically elven gear.  Her reaction to the Temple of Mythal, denying everything we learned there as just the lies of demons and then breaking up with her lover Lavellan if she insisted on believing it was just stupid.   Surely the reaction of Sera would have made more sense if it had been Lavellan not wanting to accept the truth about the ancient elves and then Sera getting annoyed with her because she was denying the truth?   The whole thing seemed back to front to me.

So, what I'm hoping for is a female elf who doesn't necessarily think all elven culture is great but nevertheless is not prejudiced against being an elf. Vaea would be good and to be honest I would have settled for her as just a good friend. However, I agree with you that I'd rather not have her messed up and made unrecognisable by the writing team, so I'm hoping either for a completely new character or perhaps Irelin, the nice shape-shifting lady from the Veil jumpers.

And back to Merrill: No way she isn´t an uncomplicated romance. The whole drama with her clan and especially Marethari.

I read the uncomplicated part being about the romantic relationship specifically, not the character in general.

It´s official its the glorious seven plus new hero of course.

A New round of speculation has begun with lots of tears because seven are something else aka less than expected.

Ok after the massive focus of the Inquisition in the last game there is no way in hell that one of the 7 isn´t an Inquisition member. Nothing new i know but i would argue that we only get one Inquisition companion and that´s it. The part "or element from Thedas" is quite a wording i wonder what this could mean? Someone like wink Calpernia wink?!?

They've gone to great pains to emphasize (both in Trespasser and The Missing) that the team that goes after Solas will be relatively disconnected from The Inquisition because Solas has his sources and can predict them.

That being said, I think Lace Harding will have an advisorial role, like a CIA handler. Varric will probably die.

Is it possible we could have Advisors as romance options?
If we had 3 and all were romanceable that could boost the numbers up

Yes, I imagine that is how they will cater for everyone in the romance options without overly complicating the companion line up. I'm okay with that. Take Josephine, that was a really good romance with an interesting connected quest, so it didn't suffer from her not being a companion (except in Trespasser where they really let the side down over the marriage option but Cullen got a wedding and he wasn't a companion either). As others have said, I didn't actually use all 9 in Inquisition by choice. I actually had to make an effort to do so just to get their companion banter and even then it didn't always trigger. So I'm fine with 7 companions as I'm more likely to use them, particularly as they have reduced party size to 3.

Exactly. We’d never get to romance a character like her if they stuck to just companions. Though yeah that is another reason Trespasser sucked. I get not being able to actually marry her since as her writer and VA said she would want her family there, but at least let us propose. If they show up they better be married.

What can we rule out?

-I don´t think that we get two Qunaris. Its only the female Qunari as companion.
-Two dwarves? Well sorry sure there is a small & better change for this than two Qunari characters but its just a female dwarf most likely Lace Harding.
-A Dog or any other animal companion. Maybe like DA 2 as summon but as companion? Almost impossible.
-A character who already has been a companion. With this small roster i don´t think and hope that Bioware won´t bring Varric back.
-1 or 2 extra DLC companions after Javik i don´t think that Bioware will ever do this.
