All or any of the above, might even be none was involved and the people in our game just didn't become pregnant, or cross species pregnancy can't happen. Think of a way and its probably there is some form. Even in our history there has been male contraception going back to treated linen to animal intestine or bladder. So I would think there is some form available in the world of Thedas. Well we know cross-species pregnancy can happen; there are enough cases of half-elves in Thedas to confirm that theory. Physiologically, Dragon Age half elves are pretty much human. Sure, Michel de Chevin could sense something in the Crossroads, but not enough to make a real difference. Personally, I've become wary of hybrids in genre fantasy, especially RPGs. Once you get past the halves it can get absurd; is the character one quarter qunari, part dwarf, part ghast? One time I watched a Dungeons & Dragons game where a player wanted a half naga-half teifling (and since teiflings are already hybrids...) More so, I've seen players and writers create hybrids in attempts subvert stereotypes, but only end up reinforcing them. Not to mention how often the straddle Mary Sue territory . One example was another guy who wanted his D&D elf to be a tinker/engineer, so he made the character half human. Since elves are so closely linked with nature, that had to be reason his character was good with machines. It couldn't possibly be because player races should be three dimensional and adaptable, and could choose such a vocation. No, the only way a fantasy character can go beyond classic motifs is to merge them with something else .
Maybe he just should have played Shadowrun .
