I'm really starting to hate that jason guy. Because he was spot on with Andromeda, and spot on with all his Destiny leaks? People pay attention to Jason because it's clear (from all the times he's been right before) that he actually has inside sources. That being said this was a very loose conversation describing possibilities and nothing to seriously.

One of the things you could do is make the story change based on what the players do, and there are some interesting experiments that I could imagine game developers taking. like Telltale? cuz they did a pretty poor job at branching narrative that was anywhere meaningful. if everyone had to side with either the templars or mages and whichever faction got the most players that became the canon decision and the story evolved from there. Absolutely reject this idea. The other potential answer is that you go fully online and embrace a living world, MMO-style, What the fuck, no. Do these people even Dragon Age? Like, any of the above changes wouldn't even be Dragon Age anymore.

I'd welcome a Dragon Age Online if Dragon Age 4 5 6 7 8 9 are exclusively single player and their development wouldn't be interrupted by DAOnline. But this seems like a stretch.

I don't know if there is a wholly satisfying way to merge SP and MP into one experience. Anthem may represent the best solution depending on the size and quality of the single-player story experience and the depth of the combat system and the world in which to engage. The crux of the problem (generally) is that SP-gamers are inherently antisocial and/or looking to lose themselves in a story...while MP's are more about combat, typically more competitive, and willing to engage with others verbally. Bioware is clearly on a quest to find enough of a balance to get enough crossover from each side to create a lucrative model, so I would guess that the days of offline SP gaming are done for the foreseeable future.

Point is, Origins plays as a single player game. They can call it whatever they like, it plays as single player. I'm assuming the same will be true of Odyssey (we'll know in a couple of months). After Andromeda I just don't trust EA to take any care of this or any other franchise beyond getting piles of pre-orders, calling it a win and moving on. Considering that is not even remotely what happened with Andromeda... I know, I know. Even now I'm finishing the Quarian Ark DLC and eagerly looking forward to the next one, provisionally titled 'Throw Liam out of the airlock'. ME:A2 will surely be along soon. The level of support EA put in place for this game took my breath away.

I think the obvious solution that people have come up with so far is just making it episodic and releasing different parts of the story as time goes on. Haven't they already kinda tried this with DAI? After all, the real end of the game was released almost a year later (improperly labeled, IMHO) as DLC. Anyway, slightly depressing. One of the things you could do is make the story change based on what the players do Given the explanation of this he gives afterwards, that's very depressing! The other potential answer is that you go fully online and embrace a living world, MMO-style the way multiplayer causes people to be more engaged, and more motivated to play, and get in there with their friends and do stuff Not me, unfortunately. I'd rather take up spider breeding. ... sigh ... Gone are the days when I could buy a cake and eat it too. Now it seems I need to order it, the ingredients are sent separately one per month (if I'm lucky), have to join a cooking class to share the making of it with others, bow to the will of the others and have a frosting I didn't like, wait for the others who missed class to catch up before completing it. By the time it's finished I'd have already quit and paid handsomely anyone who sold me ice-cream.

Who the fuck is this guy? He is an idiot. Right? I don't even have any friends who'd play online games with me, online multiplayer would just mean me being lonely and sad that nobody is playing with me, and that's the least of the problems anyway!

Ha! I might have some gaming friends that I would enjoy playing certain types of games with. Example: ME3MP, I have never met a single soul amongst my 122 friends. I do like them though A Dragon Age game is a single player experience for me, or I am not buying it. DAIMP was about the worst game I have ever played, and if the mode returns I am not buying the game for that. This is a supposition piece, so it is all conjecture. However, if BioWare continues down this road as they definitely appear to be doing with Anthem, I may be done with them as a developer.

Again, why are some people acting like this is, definitely, future for DA or all games with live-service components? It's quite clear that they're just musing, and even state that " people (by that they mean game developers) are still experimenting with these ideas" and thus they don't even make claims that anything in gaming industry is set in stone in terms of how future SP games with live services will look like.

the ingredients are sent separately one per month (if I'm lucky), And sometimes the ingredients are sold to you in randomized fashion. Sometimes you get flour, sometimes you get a walnut pom-pom beanie.

"Live service" can mean a lot of things. But EA seems to have a specific idea for their own definition. Bioware's "experimenting" has gotten more and more intrusive, and the last few games have indeed had things like an always online component. So yea, just because it CAN mean a lot of things, the fact that it's coming from this particular company with the history it (and Bioware) have had provides a pretty clear idea of what it DOES mean.

All the while my mail-box is monitored to make sure I don't receive uncommon/exotic ingredients that would be considered cheats in the eyes of the cooking class.

It's worth keeping in mind Casey Hudson's tweet from earlier this year...Casey Hudson @caseydhudsonReading lots of feedback regarding Dragon Age, and I think you’ll be relieved to see what the team is working on. Story & character focused. Too early to talk details, but when we talk about “live” it just means designing a game for continued storytelling after the main story. Um, Casey. There is a thing called balance. Which means that the next DA should have an improved gameplay and superb world design along with story and character as well. Not just focus on one thing and forsake the other. 🙄🙄
