Was lurking on reddit again and I found this thread speculating on how old various characters are using in-game evidence, the toolset, WoT, etc. Just thought I'd drop these off because... dorfs. Also, I think I remember reading at some point that the age of majority in Orzammar is 14? Or that's when you can join the army, at least? Something like that. If so, it means these super young Wardens are actually well into adulthood in their society. Dwarf life is rough and ages you! That thread is really interesting! It always makes me laugh that the CC lets you make these old, rough looking Wardens when every Origin places your age around late teens to mid twenties . My casteless dwarf Warden definitely looks older than 19 but, as you said, it's not too difficult to believe living as a casteless in Orzammer ages the hell out of you. Right! I think dwarves in general just look older - the beards and curves fool the eye. Though... my casteless boy just had stubble, so maybe his shitty life aged him after all. DAI's nice in that it's realistic for an Inquisitor of any background to be pretty much any given age. ~ Starting a new Brosca playthrough. My main is a gruff, dutiful son/brother with deep-seated anger issues who DWs a dagger and an axe. He has a high Cunning score and likes to knifey-shivdark people from the shadows. This time I'm going for a lady dorf with high Str and a ridiculous Intimidation score. She's going to be cockier than my other Brosca and have fewer scruples. She's going to love her friends and bully her enemies. I cannot contain my joy for scary dialogue options.

I'm going to pick Brosca.
1) Champion of Provings. 2) Crap life. Craaaaaaaap. Had to fight for everything. 3) Can fight unfairly while Aeducan may be bound to code of honor or whatever. Just saying Brosca has more dirty tricks. Brosca is 99% more likely fight on an empty stomach. Can a noble say the same? 4) Now, Cadash can be a violent thug where things might be more equal between the two, but Cadash can also be a peaceful surface trader so odds go down. Life on the surface is still better/easier regardless of where Cadash falls on the violent/peaceful spectrum.
Winner: The leaner and meaner Brosca.
(You still have to answer your own question.)
(And did you make your own sig? NICE!)

I guess that depends on the Brosca, Aeducan and Cadash in question, doesn't it?
I my case: Aeducan, no doubt. My Aeducan was a sword-and-board tank, while my Brosca and my first Cadash were both dual dagger rogues. She'd take a backstab from either of them without blinking and put them down with a shield bash. If they didn't have help there's no way they'd outlast her.
Now if my Aeducan fought my second Cadash, who's also sword and board, that might get interesting ...

It's hard to say. I feel like Brosca is definitely the meanest of them all, willing to fight tooth and nail if it comes down to it. Cadash may or may not have Mark of the Rift, and then it's a whole 'nother playing field. Aeducan probably has the most formal training (and possibly even better gear, given family connections and Gorim?). AUGH. I'm gonna give it to Brosca, in the end. But I think they would sustain mortal wounds and die at the end of this epic fight. Afraid not, though it is a lovely banner if I do say so myself. outspokenbeef15 made it... he likes making gifs (and donating them to needy fans lmao). Based on the background and lifestyle of the character in question, plus everyone's individual headcanons. Thanks for the thoughtful answers, ladies!

Gonna be boring and say it depends on the dwarves and the definition of fight. But if my dwarves who have finished the game were to be pitted against each other in an arena, Sereda Aeducan would win for sure. Lily Brosca would be sobbing in a corner with her flowers, whining "Why can't we be friends guys?". Aldis Aeducan would just stand there, delivering Qunari No's (but if she got invested, she might be able to get Sereda down). Hrotti Brosca might be game, but Sereda would be to quick in tearing him apart. Bergstein Cadash would hide in the shadow, since if Sereda even looked at him, he'd be a bloody splatter on the ground. Cressida Cadash might get in a few punches/arrows, but the moment Sereda got a grip on her, she'd be down. Baldur Cadash would probably just not show up. If he was there, he might be able to wear Sereda out, but he'd probably just forfeit the fight because he's boring like that.

So... :sure: Brosca, Aeducan, and Cadash get in a fight. Who wins? Of all my dwarves? Grandma Taina Cadash, hands down. Old age and treachery (and nasty combat skills) win every time. Second would probably be a toss-up between Zheeva Cadash and Koshka Brosca.

Diac Brosca and Brand* Cadash are both sword and shield warriors, both inclined to take a beating and keep walking. But they're also both painfully jolly after a good fight, so while I'd PROBABLY give it to my Cadash in the end (mark of the rift, champion spec, FRECKLES), it'd probably end in the fine local tavern comparing scars.
My secret shame is that I've never gotten an Aeducan to the end. It's like, oh, huh, cool... Wait, I could have rolled another scrappy loser!
*Shup, no it's not her real name but I liked the idea

Do you think a fAeducan would be a good match for Leliana? Should I have her kill Trian (redemption arc!!1) or have her framed for his murder (betrayal!!)?

My fAeducan romanced Leliana and I thought they made a cute pair. I had her framed for his murder and thought it made an interesting parallel to Leliana being betrayed by Marjolaine. Then they could both got their revenge together . But I think a redemption arc could work just as well, since that's apart of Leliana's story too.

Sweet, thank you! I like the revenge idea, except I really want to keep Bhelen on the throne. I think we're both going to get duped by people we trust. Still hashing out this character concept. "Evil doesn't worry about not being good."

I was somewhere in the middle of romancing Leliana when I burned out on DAO hard. (I have not played since!) I don't know enough of her romance to contribute meaningfully, but I really did like PCThug's perspective of them both being betrayed and going out with guns blazing.
As a dwarf player, I have not really been able to leave Leliana unhardened. Dwarves have a harsher reality and it isn't doing Leliana any favors to leave her sweet and innocent so I always draw the line with Marjoline and eliminated her because if Marjoline came back, it was on my dwarf for allowing that to happen. (Actually Leliana needed to make that decision, but game mechanics wanted to stroke my ego instead. =p) There are plenty of good reasons to keep Leliana unhardened, but I just find that reasons for doing so are fewer when the warden is a dwarf.
Marjoline isn't about to be queen of anything so keeping Bhelen on the throne is still viable. Can set him up for the "long con" and headcanon whatever that is. One of the more interesting RP I read about (I don't know if you remember KnightPhoenix talking about it, but it was years ago) is that he kept Alistair unhardened, put him on the human throne, appointed himself as Alistair's chancellor and he put Bhelen on the dwarven throne. Since Alistair was malleable and listened to Aeducan's advice, the two dwarven brothers were in a position to control the two kingdoms together. So keeping Bhelen on the throne for a female Aeducan can still keep options open, y'know?
Curious what you end up deciding!

Gilsa Thank you for the perspective! I must admit I have a really, REALLY hard time playing nobles - even dorf nobles, and I'm as ardent a dorf fan as any - so trying to suss out this character's morality, how pragmatic she is, how devious, etc. is pretty tough. But I always did like the idea of playing a f!Aeducan with Leliana, because here's a woman who grew up in the lap of luxury, never knowing who she could trust... I think that background meshes rather well with a fashion-loving player of the Grand Game whose biggest weaknesses are danger and doubt. Bah! I'll figure her out as I go, and we'll see what happens~

LOL. I remember scoffing at the idea of nobles because I wasn't interested in being a princess, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. Personally I am close to my family in RL so I have a hard time going the pragmatic, cutthroat route with game family members. I did try out the angle of killing Trian, felt guilty about it when I saw his spirit later in the game and decided, "You know what? I'm OK with being the one that gets betrayed. At least I can sleep at night." King Aeducan's final note was comforting, that his final thoughts were of my character before he died.
Another reason why I am fond of the noble origin is because I feel like maybe that's the only origin where it's OK to be proud of the dwarf culture, the engineering marvels, their craftsmanship, their traditions and rich history. It is so hard to root for them as a commoner. Plus Gorim. Gorim is the best. (I know some gals felt jilted when he was already married by the time they found him, but it was my first game and I had no idea where Denerim was, much less remembered that he said to meet there. It was a shock when I saw him again. With my new boyfriend standing right beside me. That was unbelievably awkward. I just sat there like, "What the **** am I gonna say?!" I was so relieved to find out he was married. No hard feelings whatsoever, Gorim. LOL. =D)

Good tidings from the Twitter thread? Haley Amber @hey_its_h_GIVE ME MY ROMANCEABLE DWARF OR GIVE ME DEATH! Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrahi.imgur.com/wKqlkUL.gif Jesse Hicks @piet_Depsi
If you were to bring one DA companion back as a companion in DA4, who would it be? Would really love your opinion. Mike Laidlaw @mike_Laidlaw
Can I say Harding? I think I’d say Harding. This all depends on the existence of a DA4, however.

I love my Pathfinder, but I miss playing games as a dwarf. Seems like it has been a while since I've played a dwarf character. Thinking of a DAO-DAI playthrough after Andromeda.
Sadly, we have to wait on this new ip before we can even get anything on DA4. They better not get rid of a dwarf pc or I'll be extremely sad.
Sn: I hope they steal the Pathfinder personality quirks for the DA4's protagonist. Ugh. I need my Dragon Age fix.
