If you assume that there are hundreds of (hidden) ventilation shafts leading to the surface, that provide fresh air and regulate the temperature in the Thaig, that might fix the convection problem. Otherwise, there's no good explanation for why Orzammar isn't a giant furnace that's cooking everyone alive inside it?

But the random lava fountains and waterfalls in people's homes? Yeah, there's no good explanations for them at all.

Not only does it seems ridiculously unsafe to have around the home (what if you tripped and fell into it), but even if they provide some kind of central heating, having lava behind the walls is a bad idea waiting to happen! Unless the walls are insanely thick, they should be glowing red hot with all that lava running behind them and scalding to the touch. And what if the walls are damaged at any point, leading to a leak?

Turns out you really should have listened when your kids warned you that "the floor is lava!"
