Has anyone made a female dwarf with facial hair and kept it Every time i try it i feel bad I would have if the quality was decent. Hair isn't one of BW's accomplishments, and the women's stubble was pretty much like the hair styles they offered (even an upgraded graphics card hasn't helped either look better.) I kind of like the idea, though it seemed weird that they waited til the third game to introduce the idea at all. A couple of women in Dusttown in DAO should have had beards if it was possible, you know?

Sadly there aren't too many games that let you play as dwarves that aren't MMOs... I can think of Baldurs Gate 1 + 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 +2, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity and Sword Coast Legends off the top of my head as single-player RPGs. Lord of the Rings: War in the North has a playable male dwarf protagonist you can customize a little too. I doubt the Inquisitor would be the protagonist of DA4 personally... the lack of an arm would make combat a little difficult, unless you were a mage I suppose, but I feel like it would be too restricting for Bioware to try and work around. It's entirely possible they'll return as NPC like Hawke though did so you might want to load up your Solas-mancing elf worldstate first for DA4 if you're worried about Solas ending spoilers. Thank you for the recommendations! You've mentioned a few I hadn't heard of yet. And I agree that it's unlikely that the Inquisitor returns as playable. It just seems strange that the Inquisitor won't be the one to deal with Solas, considering their unique relationship. But at least if Inky doesn't return I can roll another dwarf while playing my elf worldstate... Playing a Tevinter dwarf would be really interesting.

Has anyone made a female dwarf with facial hair and kept it Every time i try it i feel bad If it was possible to have a dapper mustache I'd be willing to go for it. Or long enough beard to have some braids or be able to shape it in some manner. Or just enough hair to call it beard and not stubble. Since the stubbles just feel sort of half hearted. Still, I would love to have the small wispy stubble available to human females even if I dislike them on dwarves. But I did create one or two dwarf ladies with stubbles that never went anywhere since I wasn't interested in their characters but I was quite fond of how they looked. Maybe one day I'll go for a full playthrough. Edit: The Shadow run series let you play as a dwarf of both genders and Arcanum has playable dwarves but only males. Both are single player rpgs. But more future-istic than dragon age.

So, I was talking about this with one of my gamer friends who primarily plays an elf in her RPGs, and I'm curious about the potential responses here. In RPGs that don't let you choose dwarf as a race option (like, say, the Elder Scrolls, Guild Wars or Kingdoms of Amalur) what race do you guys tend to play as instead? Do you pick a race that's closest to a dwarf, do you choose one based on their lore that you like the sound of, or do you take the opportunity to play something different, like an elf? (I know I'm a bit late but...) It really depends of the setting and its lore. For example, I'm torn between playing Dunmers or Redguards in The Elder Scrolls because they're the most interesting races IMO (I like Imperials too, but not as much), and I've only played a Human in GW2 because my character was a descendant of my GW1 character (who was also Human - since there was just a single playable race back then). So I don't necessarily go for the "dwarfiest" race, just for the one I find the most ionteresting to play.

Oooh, I want to answer this too! Dragon Age was the series that made me really love dwarves (though nowadays I do appreciate them in other settings). In D&D-based games like BG, NWN, etc. I usually end up as an orc, though I'll occasionally play a tiefling or drow. In Guild Wars 2 I liked being a norn. In the Elder Scrolls series I usually play an orsimer/orc. I guess when I can't be a short muscular person, I like being a huge muscular person.

Hello, dwarf fans! I have a question, a very important question, perhaps a singularly most important question, or perhaps not... Why doesn't Varric have his own thread! He has a ship thread with Cassandra, but not his own space for the admiring and discussing of his chest hair character? I'm throwing this question at this thread, because Varric is dwarf and our only dwarf party member. Is this a bias against his undwarf-iness?
Now I'm a Varric fan, but not a Varric FAN!!!! So under usual circumstances I wouldn't consider making a character thread for him myself, but these aren't usual circumstances! Poor Varric is the only companion, including advisors, without his own thread! xD I will create a Varric thread later tonight when I have the opportunity to get on a computer OR a Varric FAN!!!! Can come to their character's aid, create a thread, and I'll add my support to it later ^-^ (I favor this option!)

Greetings dwarf friends. I'm not sure if I raised the following issue back on the old boards but feel it is worth debating again.
What do you think was the real reason that Endrin Stonehammer moved the dwarven capital from Kal-Sharok to Orzammar? The history in World of Thedas claims that it was moved because of the Imperium weakening with the spread of humanity. This makes no sense at all. Darinius forged the alliance with the dwarven king in Kal-Sharok in -1200 and then 5 years later united the kingdoms of Tevinter, Qarinus and Neromenian into the Tevinter Imperium. So at this point the Imperium was rising in power and continued to do so until well after the conquest of the elves of Arlathan Forest over one hundred years later. Yet only 25 years after the creation of the Imperium, the dwarven king moved his capital to Orzammar. At this point the Imperium hadn't even reached southern Thedas (it only crossed the Waking Sea after the conquest of the elves), much less conquered it, so Orzammar would be some distance from its main customer. Admittedly the Deep Roads were open then and used for trade but it would still take just as long to travel underground as it was to cross the surface.
Theory one is that the lyrium veins around Kal-Sharok were nearly worked out and new discoveries near Orzammar made the king think it expedient to move himself there.
Theory two is that the Imperium had indicated they were planning on extending their empire into southern Thedas and the dwarves realised it would be easier to supply the armies of the Imperium from a base closer to the action.
Neither of these really works for me because Orzammar was still the wrong side of the Waking Sea and at that time there were numerous other thaigs that could have been chosen as an alternative to Kal-Sharok. So why Orzammar and why then? Any ideas?

Maybe the Dwarves grew suspicious of the Imperium's new expansionist policy and decided it was actually wiser to move their own political center as away from Tevinter as possible in case the latter decided to go back on their alliance? Just a thought.

Just a thought. This was my thought, as well. They rely heavily on Tevinter , they know they rely heavily on Tevinter, but they don't actually want to admit it. If they move of their own accord, there's a little bit of, "See how much we don't need you!!1 Hahah a ha aa..."
Could be totally wrong on that point, but that was my initial thought. Pride. A very transparent show of "strength." Or maybe something happened in Kal-Sharok that made them want to GTFO of dodge. Maybe the dwarves of Kal-Sharok didn't change because they were separated for so long... maybe those changes started beforehand, and frightened the powers that be enough to separate?

Unrelated to the above, but on my next playthrough I'm going to play a more low-ranking, "expendable" Cadash (as opposed to the mafia princess that was my previous dorf). Should I go artificer or assassin?

I'd probably have her go for Sera if I continue to play- I haven't seen that romance yet, and I think their personalities would mesh quite well!

Random thought of the day... how do you think Dwarves regard the Moons of Thedas?
Has any Surfacer ever argued (probably in a tavern) that they've not abandoned the Stone going to the Surface, because depending on what time of day or night you look, there's still a honking massive one hanging in the sky above them?!

No idea. I don't think Surface Dwarves much care about the moon, not even the more traditional ones. I'd guess that Surfacer's would argue that the stone is still under their feet, and they probably don't care much about the moon since it isn't a ceiling for them.

A couple of women in Dusttown in DAO should have had beards if it was possible, you know? YES! (see my profile pic) DA4--so long as we can play dwarves--and not stinky humans like DA2--the entire reason that game sucked IMO--lady beards MUST be an option! Also, my bearded lady dwarf is romancing Blackwall, an epic battle of the beards romance! Reaching top tier ridiculousness, she is a 2-handed, proper, hammer master Templar!

Leave it to Merela to make extra nice looking dwarves! I need to play Inquisition soon again. Still trying to finish all of Fallout 4, Elder Scroll (Argonians, master race), and just got Xenoverse 2. What has everyone been up to? Oh, and I can't wait to try out Divinity Original Sin 2 as a dwarf pc!
