Perhaps the Brand in the modern era is merely tattooed on. This would explain why they more closely resemble tattoos and have been seen with colour (and why the option is given in the CC), with the term "brand" being retained from a point in history when from dwarven criminals were marked with branding irons? Sort of like how how "tablets", "books" and "pads" are still names given to book-sized computers, or how in the UK we still use the term "torches" for a handheld portable light, despite it using electricity and not fire. True, but tattooing would be more time consuming and require skill, whereas branding is fast, simple, and frankly cheaper. The way the head Shaper talks about the casteless (especially those born casteless,) the fact they openly practice infanticide of casteless infants (the one quest in Dusttown,) the general attitude, and using Brand as an insult, none of that suggests they'd waste resources out of kindness or frankly show the casteless any sense of humanity. Oh, yeah, I remember how confused I was at "torches" being used in relatively modern British stories, especially when it sounded a whole lot more like a flashlight (the American term.) Or people going UP to the 1st floor (our 1st floor is your ground floor, I think.)

Got some commissions during summer. Done by Baewall, whom I was lucky to get a commission from. For that one I'll put a link to the original because it's NSFW. And I'll put the thumbnail under spoilers 'cause boobs? Done by Askbroodyelf.

Wow! Both are great, but the tarot card really captures him! Thank you! The card is based on the Star (as if the big one and the wave patterns weren't a giveaway. ) Since it's a card about hope, inspiraton, faith and renewal, it really fits Fjal' story as the Inquisitor. Even the reversed card fits: lack of faith, despair and discouragement have struck him hard many times. But the nerd keeps going! ...and, well, he looks majestic there.

I like Tarot art, but I'm not really that familiar with Tarot meanings, etc. I liked the kind of chevron pattern in blue, black, and gold in the background, though. Reminds me of a weaving pattern actually

Just in case no one hasn't heard about the new Dwarven game coming out December 1st. Here is a link to the website.... www.dwarves-game.com. I think it is based off the books, which I'm going to have to read soon.

I love it! How does the party system works? Can you bring everyone with? How's the dialogue? Is it a wheel or a origin's style?

Where I stopped, you could have up to four characters...and if one died, 't'was game over (and they hadn't added the potion mechanisms yet). The dialogues are good, right from the books. There is also a narrator - it's a bit weird at first but you get used to it pretty quickly. And I would say they're actually baldur's gate-like style.

I'm really glad it's getting made, and by people who seem to be really excited about the project. Dwarves are too often sidelined in video games, movies, books, etc or just dismissed as the funny drunk sidekicks, it's nice to see them getting the spotlight as protagonists for a change.

My new dwarf that I just started in POE. He would fit in perfectly with the Orlesians with that hat. He's also my first "regular" dwarf.

I loved PoE. I need to go back and play it again eventually when I've got some time and play the White March DLCs with my own little dorf. It was a really awesome game though, I bought the Royal edition off Steam and regret nothing.

Someone stole my name in that game . You should definitely go back and play White March, especially if you love dwarves, since it will dig deeper into dwarves' culture, really the mountain dwarves. I have a mountain dwarf and boreal dwarf right now. The picture is of my cipher boreal dwarf, because I love the Cipher's lore and skills so much lol. It's really weird playing a "mage" dwarf, but I love the Cipher class so much. My only completed play through was a cipher death Godlike dwarf, but I wanted a "real" dwarf play through

I'll definitely get around to it as soon as I can come up for air... damn impending exams *shakes fist*. I've only played a mountain dwarf rogue, since I'm addicted to playing rogues in RPGs haha. I definitely need to go through and play as a cipher too eventually though (probably when I play a boreal dwarf), they just seem to fit the role of a watcher so well going by the description in the cc. I've played a dwarf of all classes in Neverwinter Nights 1 (including a sorcerer and a wizard) but the idea of a dwarf wizard or sorcerer always gives me a chuckle regardless, dwarves and magic just seem like the antithesis of each other.

I know those demons quite well. Exams drowns most of us. I usually play rogues too, because they're my favorite kind of play style, but I wanted to try a class that was unique to POE. But, I always fight with a bow, so I'm glad that it wasn't restricted by class. I do think being a Cipher Watcher is making the PC a little too special, but I wanted my boreal dwarf to be special . I really need to finish Neverwinter Night 2 and Baldur Gate I and II. But of course, I like to live outside of the stereotypes, but my dwarf can still put down more drinks than anyone and the clever dialogue is always my favorite option.

So, I was talking about this with one of my gamer friends who primarily plays an elf in her RPGs, and I'm curious about the potential responses here. In RPGs that don't let you choose dwarf as a race option (like, say, the Elder Scrolls, Guild Wars or Kingdoms of Amalur) what race do you guys tend to play as instead? Do you pick a race that's closest to a dwarf, do you choose one based on their lore that you like the sound of, or do you take the opportunity to play something different, like an elf?

The list of RPG's I've played is reasonably small, but I usually end up playing humans. Boring as it is, I like playing the 'medieval knight' type characters the most, and the cultures that such characters are part of. I think I've seen Quest for Camelot too many times when I was a child. That said, my first Inquisitor was a Cadash, and she's my favourite out of all of them. I chose her for roleplaying reasons, but really ended up loving Dragon Age dwarves and their lore in the process of playing her. So I guess I should deviate from the human thing more often. I'm open for recommendations of a few RPG's that feature dwarves. Still, in case the Inquisitor returns in DA4, it'll be difficult choosing whether to play her or my Solas-mancing elf first... I'm scared that the conclusion of the Solas arc doesn't get to be influenced by choices in the game and that it would spoil the ending of the romance if I played my Cadash first.

Sadly there aren't too many games that let you play as dwarves that aren't MMOs... I can think of Baldurs Gate 1 + 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 +2, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity and Sword Coast Legends off the top of my head as single-player RPGs. Lord of the Rings: War in the North has a playable male dwarf protagonist you can customize a little too. I doubt the Inquisitor would be the protagonist of DA4 personally... the lack of an arm would make combat a little difficult, unless you were a mage I suppose, but I feel like it would be too restricting for Bioware to try and work around. It's entirely possible they'll return as NPC like Hawke though did so you might want to load up your Solas-mancing elf worldstate first for DA4 if you're worried about Solas ending spoilers.

Has anyone made a female dwarf with facial hair and kept it Every time i try it i feel bad Not me. I honestly felt it was silly to give them facial hair options in the first place. We've never had a female dwarf with facial hair in the series previously. I don't think there was any lore for it. I mean, I suppose the devs were going for an homage to Tolkein's dwarves or something with the idea, but I don't think it works with what was previously established (and left unestablished) in the DA setting.

I think the fuzz is kinda neat. Qunari have a lot of physical differences and elves have their ears and their big, reflective eyes, so I like the idea that dwarves are hairier in comparison to other races. I imagine if you have chest hair like Varric's, your female relatives are more likely to have some stubble (compared to the rest of the dwarven population, anyway).
