In Dragon Age: Origins, we had the camp. In Dragon Age 2, we had Kirkwall. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, we had Skyhold. How big should it be? Are you hoping for a player hub that is much more customizable, or are you looking for something that's more cobbled together and small, but packs a lot of narrative elements within it? Should it have secrets?
I think something almost the same size as Skyhold would be fine for me, but I want the customization aspect to be expanded upon. I'd also really like it if it was more akin to a village, rather than a fortress. I think the initial Chantry area that you start with in Inquisition is closer to what I'm suggesting. It should also have a good number of NPC's that you can interact with. Maybe you could bring in a local farmer, who - after completing a quest for him - will start growing plants for you. This has the benefits of having a steady source of a crafting material. You could even upgrade the farm for increased yields, or so you can have more plants available.

I rather have a smaller Mansion than another Skyhold. Something like Arl Eamons Denerim Estate with more Details and a Garden.
Skyhold was fine i guess but it had its problems. The Loading Times and the Distance from Mayor Characters to eachother are to big. It makes Sense but i prefer the old Origins Camp where you can find and talk to everybody in Seconds.

Skyhold was a waste of resources. Good portion of meaningful cutscenes take place on the walls or outside. To make a specialization object I believe he had to leave skyhold and go to a camp Really cumbersome and under utilized. Huge bedroom that’s main purpose was to change an outfit. Hawke used theirs much more effectively Don’t get me wrong I loved the judgments etc but there was a lot of waste
I’d rather have a small residence and then reach out to companions and maybe give companions the option to live with us (like skyrim or witcher). Dai certain citizens had pathing to sit (the elf who needs an elixir for wife and yet companions don’t path as much or at all Storage plus displays. Val roxeaux had the dragons head in the marketplace. We can kill almost a dozen and it’s not recognized enough

I can see why people may have disliked Skyhold, as there's a lot of "filler" space with not a lot going on. Skyhold was a waste of resources. You'd be making an effort to want to interact with those NPC's, while your main party would be visible and easy to access.

You'd be making an effort to want to interact with those NPC's, while your main party would be visible and easy to access. That sounds on Paper good but the Reality is that the Player visit them two/three times in the Game if these NPCs behave like the minor Skyhold Characters. Does DA 4 really need these NPCs who have about 10 Lines of Dialogue?
DAI biggest Problem in my view is that is literally to big in all areas.
And Skyhold is no Exception. First its Great for the Atmosphere but if you play longer or another Game you wish that Skyhold wasn´t that huge. Also its sometimes really annoying that the Skyhold Level isn´t loading properly and its Loading Times are often to long. A smaller Level might have fixed that.

For DA4, I imagine we will either have another castle of some sort, like Skyhold or our Keeps, or maybe a larger manor than what Hawke had in DA2, for example more like the mansions we went into for quests. Or maybe something like the size of the Normandy or the Tempest but as a building. There are three things I would really like them to have though: 1. Evolution of the base. I really liked how, for the most part at least, Shyhold was repaired throughout the game. 2. Personilization. I loved how we could personalize Skyhold a bit, either though choosing decorations or upgrades, and having that option again and maybe even expanded would be great. 3. Characters moving around. I loved how with the Normandy in ME3 and the Tempest in MEA we had our group move around the home base and interact with each other and would like to see Dragon Age implement this.

I wouldn't mind having a mobile base. Stay in one spot for a short time, then move to another location. Since you're trying to avoid having Solas know your movements and what you're doing to stop him, it would be best not to stay in one place for an extended period of time.

Something like Hawke's estate would be more my speed, or possibly even smaller. Heck, I'd even go for living above a tavern like Sera did in Inquisition. Her tiny pad was pretty cool looking, but it'd be even better if we can just jump off the ledge and get into the fray with the drunks below.

Maybe a Ship as Base like Pillars of Eternity 2? That would makes Sense for the Tevinter Setting if its focus on the mayor areas.

Interesting idea I've seen suggested a few times, but I think a ship base would be better for a Dragon Age game that is based around Rivain, Antiva, and maybe even going to another continent. If we do get a ship home base in DA4 though, I hope that Josephine's family builds it for us.

Interessing Side Note in the cancelled DA 2 Addon The Exalted March Bioware had planed to expand the Raiders of the Waking Sea / Pirates Faction. www.kotaku.com.au/2017/01/bioware-tells-all-about-cancelled-dragon-age-2-expansion-exalted-march/Maybe they still like the Idea. And playing a mighty Pirate Admiral as the new Hero would be nice Change. A Pirate would also work for all Races. Playing as Pirate would also mean that Isabela would be back in a major role because she have to be on Board.

Give me a pirate queen like Isabela too while you are at it. That goes without saying that Isabela would be back if we will get a Ship as Base. She would likely take a similar Role as DAI Leliana. Not as Spymaster but as Captain / First Mate. But she couldn´t be romanced nor she will want to have Sex with the Hero. So no Twosome, Threesome or Foursome this Time.

As long as her love, my hawke is her bosun. Its very unlikely that Hawke will return in DA 4. Too much Work for Bioware and in the default setting (without using the Keep) Hawke is also dead. But Isabela will mention Hawke if romanced.

gangrelbeckett Ugh, no thanks. I don't want Isabela anywhere near my ship. Josephine on the other hand. To be fair and neutral Isabela would make more Sense to have on Board than Josephine. Especially if this Ship is a Pirate Ship.
Personally i would also argue that having Isabela as First Mate would be more Fun. Josephine is a bit to much formal and stiff.
Given how badly dai treated the hawke-isabela romance i’m Not reassured by that. The Difference is that Isabela would have more Screentime to shine and mentioned it. Like DAI Leliana or was that also bad?

I was fine with how romanced leliana was handled. So perhaps it could be handled a less stinky manner when mentioned.

To make a specialization object I believe he had to leave skyhold and go to a camp Incorrect. There was a crafting table in Skyhold where you could complete Requisitions. It was in the same building as Morris the Quartermaster.

I don't know what to expect from the hubs. I'm down for bigs houses or ships. But one thing I always wanted was for us to see and have access to the companions private spaces, their own rooms. The closest was in DA2, lacking Aveline, Isabela and Sebastian.
And I don't see nothing wrong with Skyhold, design wise. The only thing that made me lost more of my time was Cole's odd things, that made me run that place countless times.

Hoooo boy, I forgot how awkward it would be to ever meet Isabela again. Sorry that I (the player) chose Loghain over your soulmate? Anyway, on the topic of the thread, I’m not really invested in home bases. Something tiny and hidden would be fine by me. Because I’m there so often, the home base fades into my subconsciousness pretty quickly, so it’s not like I’m truly seeing it. Doesn’t matter how fancy it is, my brain’s going to filter out all the scenery.
